Been interested in the Will Wight and Acts of Caine series for some time now. Glad to see they're hitting the mark. So far for me, as far as books released this year go, it's a coin flip between Shadow of the Gods and Project Hail Mary as my favorite.
I'm interested to see whether you will love Cradle or not, but Heroes Die by Matthew Woodring Stover... this one I have no doubt you'll enjoy! Also, yay for The Shadow of the Gods as being one of the best books published this year for you, too! :)
Ah, so good to hear that you feel that way. I actually just put that music randomly in one of my videos, and a few people commented how nice it is to have, and since then I include them in all of my videos! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Petrik, most of us will be lucky to read 51 books in a whole year, so even a "poor" year for you would be an unimaginably great year for almost anyone else! It's fantastic to hear about so many good reads from you, so thank you, my friend!
You're welcome, and thank you to you, too, my friend! I guess that's true that this is still a lot of books being read! Thanks for letting me see my achievement!
I've been seeing Dreams of the Dying all over my twitter lately, so your rec makes me even more excited to read it! I think my favorite read of the year so far has been binging The Poppy War series
I started shadow of the gods the other day and it’s amazing. My first gwynne book. When I heard it was Norse inspired I jumped on it! The only disappointment is I have to wait for book2. Dreams of the dying is on my tbr. It looks sooooo amazing! It seems like exactly what I want! Fantastic video! Great job!
Thank you so much! The Shadow of the Gods, as I said, it's an incredible Norse-inspired epic fantasy. I hope you'll pick up his other books, too, after this. They're all amazing! And I have a feeling you're going to really love Dreams of the Dying, Michelle! :)
I read 51 books..............wow..........just amazed with your appetite, and look at those pages..........again WOW!!!! Good choices, that Dreams of the Dying book though love the physical book that you keep on waving around, my mouth is actually salivating!!!
I started reading again this year and have read about 11 books so far. Favorites right now are red rising and golden son which i’m 50 pages away from the end. I also enjoyed Gunslinger, Name of the Wind, and Black Prism. Reading a lot of first books and not going further. maybe not the best way to do it but im enjoying my journey.
As long that you enjoy your read, and practically those books you mentioned are all awesome books, I'm really bad at finishing series this year, too! xD
@@PetrikLeo i always see the same books at the top of lists but you really got me thinking i need to go deeper into the genre. made a list of the ones i wanna read from your bookshelf!! keep up the great work or don’t lol do whatever makes you feel happy.
I think there is a value at just dabbling with the first book of 3 book series. I usually am disappointed with the second book...they often seem rushed by the publisher, likely, to capitalize on the first entry's success. The writers often didn't have a clear path of the full direction they wished to take the character thus readers ' mileage may very depending on their reading goals when the 3rd book comes along.
@@PetrikLeo I'm stoked! Once we finish our Indie Summer Reading Challenge, I'll have plenty of time to dive back into the trad pub world and get to all those big epics I'm dying to read. Well, I guess I've got to finish the Faithful and Fallen first.

Thank you so much, Sarah! Seems like my mixed reading year is still able to gain at least 10 favorite books! And yeah, that sprayed edges is so beautiful! 😍
I'm currently reading the Hand of the Sun King and also got an ARC for She Who Became the Sun - so excited to see both of them on your list! I haven't read many of the others so my TBR continues to increase! I bought the Shadow of the Gods last month so will hopefully get to it very soon. Thanks for the recommendations!
I just finished Theft of Swords a few hours ago and i loved spending time in that world. A fun story with some nice character work. I really like that Sullivan wrote well drawn characters who are still fun and doesn't rely on the characters being emotionally tortured. I also like how he weaves his a plot for the novel while developing the broader plots and conspiracies facing the world. I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the series and then getting in to his Age of series
Helm of Midnight and Shadow of the Gods have made my best of the year list too! Also might die of anticipation before I get to read She Who Became the Sun, Hand of the Sun King, or Empire’s Ashes- I’m anticipating 5 stars for each of these as well!
Yesss! I'm so pleased you loved those two that much, Lindsay! One more week until Empire's Ruin is out, and three more weeks out She Who Became the Sun is out. You're going to love them! :)
After watching your video I really want to read Dreams of the Dying. Also, in the book groups I'm in quite a few people have mentioned the Cradle series so I'll have to check that one out too.
Also, I haven't really have any 5 star ratings other than a couple of rereads I did this year. The only new book that I've read is The Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth that got a 5 star rating which is not a reread.
Dreams of the Dying and and Cradle series are so worth looking into, Cynthia! I hope you'll enjoy them. Btw, I haven't heard of The Witches of Eileanan before, I'll check it out! Thanks for letting me know about it! :)
Great list! I read 24 books this year so far, but I don't think I could order them since the number 1 slot would be a clash between Dreams of the Dying, Hyperion, Reaper's Gale, Toll the Hounds and Morning Star. I can't decide since they are radically different yet still amazing.
I laugh every time you talk about how good Heroes Die is compared to its cover! 😂 I totally believe you and definitely want to check it out. So good to know that Song of Achilles meets Mulan is accurate for She Who Became the Son. A pitch like that always makes me wonder! Thank you for bringing attention to so many books not often talked about!
You're welcome! Thanks for checking out this video. Also, I can't stop mentioning how awful the cover art is and how good the book, Johanna! It's such a hue contrast! 😂
I just finished reading Red Dragon and The Silence of the Lambs for the first time (and am currently putting off reading Hannibal), so your description of The Helm of Midnight caught my attention right away. Definitely adding that to my TBR.
I picked up The Shadow of the Gods on your recommendation, never read anything by John Gwynne before. I’ve already had my mind blown more than a few times! Thank you so much Petrik! I can’t wait to check out The Faithful and The Fallen/Of Blood and Bone!
Good to hear so positive things about Empire's Ruin because I'm on book 2 in the Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne and enjoy it. It would sadden me to hear the continuation is bad or a downgrade but fortunately it isn't
Really glad I have found your channel! I have already lost count of all the books I have added to my TBR thanks to your recommendations. Super excited to get to them! Dreams of the Dying sounds particularly intriguing.
Thank you for your support, Tatiana! I'm happy to have you here, and that my videos can help you find great books! Also, I truly hope you'll enjoy Dreams of the Dying!
So interesting to see Bloodline be your favorite in the series because, to me, it feels very much like a setup book. Ghostwater and Wintersteel are tied for the best in the series for me.
Yeah, as I said, I'm not sure why but my favorite Cradle books are all the one that many fans of the series consider to be weaker 😂 I actually thought Wintersteel to be a bit overrated; it's great, but Ghostwater and Underlord was better. Just my opinion though!
I'm so glad you like Daughter of the Empire more than the original trilogy. I still need to read the original one, but this way if I dislike it as well I know I just need to get through it in order to read Daughter of the Empire 😁 And woow, the Empire's Ruin as number 1? I can't wait for my copy to arrive! Unfortunately I DNF'd Skullsworn this month (loved the trilogy but somehow I just didn't like this standalone) but I still have very high hopes for the new release.
You can definitely jump into this if you don't like the first trilogy, Jolien. I only read the first book in the first trilogy and jumped into Daughter of the Empire immediately. Yeahh! Such an amazing book. And don't worry if Skullsworn isn't for you. This one is more attuned to the first trilogy but more epic and well-written! :)
I really want to get to The Hand of the Sun King, She Who Became the Sun, and Dreams of the Undying. I am also thinking of giving Stavely another go! My favorite book I have read so far this year has been The Fox by Sherwood Smith (book 2 of the Inda Quartet). I would give the number two spot to In the Labyrinth of Drakes by Marie Brennan (book 4 of the Memoirs of Lady Trent). Two honorable mentions would be the novellas Down Among The Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire and The Haunting of Tram Car 015 by P Djèlí Clark.
If you do get to these three awesome books, let me know what you think! I have Memoirs of Lady Trent on my TBR pile, I'm glad to hear you loved it that much. I do have to get to reading Inda Quartet one day. I heard it's incredibly underrated series! Also, I finished Haunting of Tram Car 015, can't wait to read A Master of Djinn!
@@PetrikLeo The Inda Quartet is so good so far. Some moments throughout the series have reminded me of Hobb (some coming of age themes, innocent protagonist, sea faring adventures) Other moments remind me of ASOIAF (the politics, the backstabbing, unbelievable moments that make you want to throw the book across the room) and at times some Bloodsong vibes (military academy). It's so good.
So many of these are in my top books too. I agree about cradle, for me they just keep getting better! I am glad to see you enjoying so many of this year's releases! I would have dragonmage in my top 10 as well. Such an impressive book!❤️
The best book I read so far in 2021 is "Piranesi" by Susanna Clarke. This is the book that got me more intrested in fantasy. Thank you for all the awesome recommendation. I would love to reread "The Shadowof the Gods" one day and I am hopping for a Romanian translation.
That's wonderful to hear. I haven't read Piranesi or Jonathan Strange by the same author. I hope to get to them one day! And I know I'll reread The Shadow of the Gods in the future! :)
I was incredibly lucky with arcs this year (She Who Became the Sun, A Desolation Called Peace, The Empire's Ruin, the Blacktounge Thief and The Hand of the Sun King)- it's like NetGalley said: you shall be only approved for books that will be your favourites. I actually requested The Hand of the Sun King because of your praise and you were right- it's so good, so thank you for putting it on my radar.
You deserve those arcs, Lila! I"m glad you're able to acquire and read them all early. Also, for The Hand of the Sun King, I think you're quite right about the prose and tone being reminiscent of Hobb's prose. I did feel that way, too, and I think that's a huge part on why I loved it. I'm definitely more invested in Gwenna's journey, but the Dombang plot by the end was so explosive. Can't wait to what the next book will bring! Speaking of Staveley... he will appear on this channel next week. I'll announce it on my community tab tomorrow, look forward to it! :)
Hi there. That sounds like a great list. I have not listened to any of those books, but I want to now. I also wanted to let you know, that I am 19% into listening to Knife of Dreams. It's been really good. Oh, and I did want to let you know, I pre ordered that book by Brian Staveley that you talked about. Once I get that one, I am thinking about listening to all of his books. He is one author that I never got around to.
You finished Crossroads of Twilight! Haha, well done! I'm sure the remaining four books will be a breath of fresh air for you. Also, I think you're going to love Brian Staveley's books. His prose is an absolute delight to read! :)
i discovered your reviews on goodreads and was happy to find that you have a booktube! i love your recommendations, especially since you focus a lot on fantasy and sci-fi, and you talk about books so passionately and optimistically that i can’t help but be engrossed 💗 love your channel so far! you give me kind dad energy :)
Oh, there you again, teasing us with 'The Empire's Ruin'. 4 more days. 4 more. 😊 Gwynnedo! 😂🤣 We need a t-shirt with this. Thank you, Petrik for solidifying all the books I've added to my TBR based on your recommendations, AND the ones I already read - some from your reviews. 'Tis a wonderful list!
You're welcome! I'm glad my recommendations worked for you! Also, 3 days more until The Empire's Ruin US release now! 😊 Yeah, Gwynnado needs to be a real term for Gwynne's books!!
I just finished shadow of the gods and holy crap I cannot wait for the next 2 books. The ending was awesome! Now I'm diving into the first law trilogy. Very much enjoying it so far!
Isn't that ending in The Shadow of the Gods so exciting? The last page dropped my jaw! The First Law trilogy is amazing, too. You'll see a rival to Orka there... xD
Excited to see books on this list that I want to read in the second half of the year (She who became the Sun and Shadow of the Gods). My top 5 so far: 1. Assassin's Fate (I could fill my whole top ten solely with RotE books but that would be as much fun, so this is a place for everything I love about Robin Hobb) 2. Record of a Spaceborn few 3. House in the Cerulean Sea 4. The Burning God 5. Empress of Salt and Fortune 5. Oathbringer Afterwards, it just becomes a mess but I did enjoy most of what I read this year so far. Bye☺️❤️
I haven’t read any of these but ✍🏼 She who Became the Sun ✍🏼 and ✍🏼 Hand of the Sun King ✍🏼 sound ✍🏼 interesting ✍🏼 I’m also excited to read The Empire’s Ruin! I’m just waiting to be in the mood for high fantasy. I’m currently on a reading slump so I’m waiting for that to pass 😩
The power of the Sun is real! 🤣 Yeah, The Empire's Ruin is definitely high/epic fantasy. Make sure you're in the right mood for it before you get to it, Iving! Take your time! :)
She Who Became the Sun comes out three weeks from now! And I totally understand... the hardcover of Dreams of the Dying is worth the money, but it's still expensive! :/
Hi Petrik. Impressive list of quality books. I have read 93 books this year. My Best Books of 2021 So Far! 1. Rise of the Silvan by R.K. Lander 2. Dragontiarna books 8-10 by Jonathan Moeller 3. Memories of Prophecies by Davis Ashura 4. The Blood of the Spear by Mark Timmony 5. The Tiger’s Imperium by Marc Alan Edelheit 6. A Clash of Fates by Philip C. Quaintrell 7. The Song of the First Blade by T.C. Edge 8. Bloodline by Will Wight 9. Wraithblade by S. M. Boyce 10. The Shadow of the Gods by JG
Congrats on 9 months on booktube! 🥳 Also, 51 books ain't bad at all. I started reading in the middle of my second semester in May and only finished 9 books lol 💀
Thank you, Will! I personally think it's necessary to have read the first trilogy before it. Think of it this way, will you read Tawny Man trilogy without reading Farseer trilogy first? That's pretty much the situation with this! :)
I tried the 1st series from this author and didn't finish the 2nd book. I just didn't feel connected to anything. Makes me very weary to try that author again.
So far in 2021 I read The Stand for the first time finally - easily the best book I’ve read this year and def in my all time top 20 In terms of published this year, Shadow of the Gods is my fav so far
I loved a lot of parts in The Stand, but not gonna lie, the ending didn't really work for me. xD Loved King's characterizations so much in that book, though! And yayyy for Shadow of the Gods!!! :)
My favorite book I've read so far this year was 'Words of Radiance'. Also 'She Who Became the Sun', 'The Shadow of the Gods' and 'The Empire's Ruin' are all on my most anticipated releases of this year. Now that they have the Petrik seal of approval I'm extra excited to check these out :D
Petrik your channel and your taste are amazing. Thank you for sharing everything you love with us. I have a question, do you have reviews on your favorites mangas, if not, I really hope one day hearing you talking about mangas.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Mige! Regarding your question, not doing reviews for my manga is one of my biggest regrets. I've read so many manga, and I wish I wrote reviews for them, but I didn't. I'll just have to start from now! I'll definitely cover manga on this channel, too. There are a lot of amazing manga series!
Omg🙀.. I guessed the top three books correctly😂😂.. Only I thought you'll choose The Empire's Ruin as the best one but you tie it with Dreams of the Dying.. Anyway I can't wait to read each and every one of these😍😍
"Which of these 10 books interests you the most?" Well Petrik, let me tell you: I have either read them, pre-ordered them or they are VERY high on my TBR thanks to you ;) I cannot believe I have only one more week of waiting left before I can read The Empire's Ruin, I simply cannot wait to see Gwenna again! Also, I am starting Dreams of the Dying either tomorrow or some other time this week and I am beyond excited!! I hope you find many more favourites in the second half of this year! Happy reading :)
One more week and The Empire's Ruin will be out, Esmay! Feel free to message me your thoughts and reactions to both The Empire's Ruin/Dreams of the Dying. I'm sure you're going to love them! Thank you so much, my friend. Happy reading to you, too, for the second half of this year! :)
I've read so many good books this year so far. The Expanse series, The Stormlight Archive series, the latest Murderbot book, The Steerswoman trilogy... But currently I'm reading the first book in the Malazan series and I'm either loving it...or I'm confused. It changes page to page!
Hahah I understand what you mean! Give the series two or three books a try. If by the end of the 3rd book you doesn't feel that in love with the series, feel free to drop the series.
that's still a massive amount of books! i bought all the will wight's books when they were free on kindle... i have no idea when i'll get around to reading them though :-D
The two that caught my eye are She Who Became the Sun & Daughter of the Empire. (By the way, I am currently reading a book by and Indonesian author: Man Tiger by Eka Kurniawan. I don't think it is your type of books, but I was curious whether you are familar with it)
Woohoo! Both She Who Became the Sun & Daughter of the Empire are awesome! I know of Eka Kurniawan, but yeah, might not be my type of books. I hope you'll enjoy it! So cool of you to try reading a book by Indonesian author!
If you like the rest of the Empire Trilogy will you read any more books by Janny Wurts? I have the first 4 books in the Wars of Light and Shadow series but I'm a bit intimidated to start reading by how big that series is!
* Petrik super stoked talking about books at high speed non stop...meanwhile, soft, relaxing piano music plays in the background. * Perfect balance, little brother. Love the video.
@@PetrikLeo yup, they have been phenomenal this year along with many self published covers who have been as good as the traditional published ones, this is a good year for book cover connoisseurs 😂
Yes it definitely can! If the author decided to not continue with the series, it would still work as a satisfying standalone! Give it a try. It's awesome! 😊
Just finished book 1 of Riyria revelations. I enjoyed the book quite a bit. It did seem to be a fun buddy cop kind of book. Do the further books thicken up a bit in terms of depth ? Or is the series more just of a fun light read throughout? Im new to the series and I just picked up second book this week
It definitely gets deeper and more serious as the series goes. I was honestly underwhelmed by the first book, but glad I persevered through it. The third book is the most serious and in-depth of them all. I hope you'll enjoy them! :)
@@PetrikLeo thank you for feedback. Yeah the first book left me slightly concerned with the rest of the series. Just wanted to hear that the first book wasn’t going to represent the other books in the series. Glad to hear that things in this series continue to grow, and that it’s worth pushing forward.
Great list ! My favs so far are 'The Jasmine Throne', 'She who became the sun', 'The hand of the sun king' and 'Dragon Mage'. And almost all by your recommendation so tysm XD also I was wondering can I read 'The empires ruin' without reading its prequel trilogy ?
Thank you, Azu! Woohooo, so many of my recommendations made it to your list! As for The Empire's Ruin, I wouldn't recommend it. I think it would be better if you've read the prequel trilogy; it's a great trilogy, too, anyway! :)
Do you need to have read Chronicle of the Unhewn throne before Empire’s Ruin? I will read them all eventually but I can’t fit many more books in my busy tbr
Yes, I'll say that it's necessary. The Empire's Ruin begins a new storyline but you'll be missing on so many character's development because the main character is a pivotal character in the first trilogy! :)
I've finished Dreams of the Dying a week ago, loved it,but, for me it was not a masterpiece, ended up giving it 4 stars. Big spoiler: . . . . . . . . . . Loved the dream sequences,my problem was with the main plot resolve.Let's wake the bad guy and he will convince the people to give up mutiny,it seems that Nicolas took the easy way out, very convenient. Also I would like a little more action, fighting. What do you think?
I think that's an understandable reaction! I can definitely see how you have an issue with that. For me, though, it worked. Spoilers below . . . . . . . I never thought of Dreams of the Dying as a book that will be filled with actions/fight scenes. Besides, for me, it's great to see The Man having such a powerful charisma to be able to solve the situation. Throughout the book, he has always been hailed to have that kind of manipulative power of persuasion on people, and to have it working for many people was wow, imo. I totally understand if you, or any other readers, doesn't like how it's resolved, though! :D
I personally say yeah it is. At least the first trilogy. I'm sure you can understand the story of The Empire's Ruin without them, but you'll be missing on so many character's development and background of the main character.
I started reading the Riyria revelations but I stopped midway through book 1 because it was just so basic without anything unique going for it. Is it really worth it to continue on with the series?
It's totally worth continuing with the series. The first omnibus was by far Sullivan's weakest books imo. I almost give up with the series when I read the first omnibus, but it got much better in the 2nd omnibus. As for 3rd and final omnibus, the best of his work until now! :)
Do you know if Dreams of the Dying is coming out on Audio any time soon? I keep hearing your praise and I'm totally sold, but audio is probably the fastest I'll be able to actually read it!
the audio production is still on progress, I think! I know that it is VERY high in production. Check out his Instagram page. There's a few clip. Last I checked, it should be coming in September or October, not sure whether that changes or not, though!
So many interesting books on this list! Have I read any? No. Do I want to read them all? Yes. I'm hopefully going to read The Shadow of the Gods in July though :D
@@PetrikLeo Their dynamic is just so much fun. I honestly can't think of any "unlikely pairing" that's more entertaining. Maybe Whitney and Torsten in the Buried Goddess Saga.

Hahaha! It might be destiny that you found out about The Helm of Midnight now! xD
I picked up The Shadow of the Gods on your recommendation, never read anything by John Gwynne before. I’ve already had my mind blown more than a few times! Thank you so much Petrik! I can’t wait to check out The Faithful and The Fallen/Of Blood and Bone!
You're welcome! Glad The Shadow of the Gods worked for you. I'm sure you're going to love The Faithful and the Fallen/Of Blood and Bone, too! :)
Shadow of the Gods was AWESOME! But, I like both of the other series More!
Shadow of the Gods for me, no question. Can’t wait to open up Dreams of the Dying though, picked it up because of your endless ravings about it!!
The brilliance of John Gwynne continues! I think you'll love Dreams of the Dying, too, Joe! Let me know whar you think when you get to it! 😊
I am so excited to read She Who Became the Sun! I am (I'm)patiently waiting for my copy to arrive to my door!
3 more weeks! Woohoo! I don't own the physical copy, too, can't wait to see it in person! 😁
@@PetrikLeo I'm pretty sure it is in one of the book boxes I get! I'm so impatient because I bet it will be so pretty
@@TheBookishMom oh my god! You got the book box!? I'm sure it will be amazing. There's even interior art! Aaa so envious! 🤩

In here for the book goods. 😎 Thank you, I missed a few of these!
Woohoo!! You're welcome, Melissa! 😊
9 months (yey 🎉🎉🎉) and you keep increasing our tbr as well 😁😁😁
Yeah!! It's mutual! 😆
Yay! I love these lists. I have both Dreams of the Dying and The Empire’s Ruin on my immediate TBR☺️
Thank you so much, Navi! ☺️ Ahh I can't wait for you to read them. I hope you'll love them as much as I did!
@@PetrikLeo You haven’t led me astray yet, Petrik!
Congrats on 9 months! Love the channel, glad to have found it.
Thank you so much, Mark! 😊
Good to hear so positive things about Empire's Ruin because I'm on book 2 in the Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne and enjoy it. It would sadden me to hear the continuation is bad or a downgrade but fortunately it isn't
Providence of Fire is awesome. My favorite of the first trilogy! But yeah, The Empire's Ruin is a definite upgrade! 😊
Love watching your videos! I get so many great recommendation to add to my growing TBR 😄
Thank you so much! I'm glad my videos are helpful to you! 😊
Nice Mid Year List ! ,Great to see fantasy debuts of authors in your list as well . Definitely need to add them to my TBR now ☺
Thank you so much, Charles! Add them, and I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did! :)
I'm so glad you like Daughter of the Empire more than the original trilogy. I still need to read the original one, but this way if I dislike it as well I know I just need to get through it in order to read Daughter of the Empire 😁
And woow, the Empire's Ruin as number 1? I can't wait for my copy to arrive! Unfortunately I DNF'd Skullsworn this month (loved the trilogy but somehow I just didn't like this standalone) but I still have very high hopes for the new release.
You can definitely jump into this if you don't like the first trilogy, Jolien. I only read the first book in the first trilogy and jumped into Daughter of the Empire immediately.
Yeahh! Such an amazing book. And don't worry if Skullsworn isn't for you. This one is more attuned to the first trilogy but more epic and well-written! :)
So I’ve already bought the prequel the crown tower and now I’m going to put more stuff on my TBR. But I love it. Great video!
Thank you, Olga!! Glad you loved it!! 😊
I’m planning on reading the emperors blades this month and I’m so excited!
Great video, Petrik! 🥰
Thank you, Holly! Ah, Staveley's debut! I hope you'll like it! 😊
@@afantasybabble6222 Anddd my TBR increased again. Hobb, ASoIaF, Blood Song, no way I'm not checking it out after you said those three! xD
So many of these are in my top books too. I agree about cradle, for me they just keep getting better! I am glad to see you enjoying so many of this year's releases! I would have dragonmage in my top 10 as well. Such an impressive book!❤️
Thank you so much, Ellyn! And yes!! Dragon Mage was included in my last year's list already! 🤣
@@PetrikLeo omg I forgot!🤣 I'm just putting it on mine as I didn't get to it until January/February!
14:00 book review 👍
Thank you so much!
@@PetrikLeo Looking forward to it! I love his interviews and I hope he'll dish more info about next book and Kettral. :D
Aww thank you so much. That's very kind of you! Haha, I'm not a dad yet, but when the time comes, I sure hope I'll be a kind one! :)
I love your recommendation videos! I have gotten a lot of 5 star reads from you. Thanks Petrik!
You're welcome! I'm so happy to hear that, Freya. Thanks for letting me know! :)
Oh, there you again, teasing us with 'The Empire's Ruin'. 4 more days. 4 more. 😊
Gwynnedo!
Yeah, Gwynnado needs to be a real term for Gwynne's books!!
My top 5 so far:
1. Assassin's Fate (I could fill my whole top ten solely with RotE books but that would be as much fun, so this is a place for everything I love about Robin Hobb)
2. Record of a Spaceborn few
3. House in the Cerulean Sea
4. The Burning God
5. Empress of Salt and Fortune
5. Oathbringer
Afterwards, it just becomes a mess but I did enjoy most of what I read this year so far.
Bye☺️❤️
Great list!! Also yes, there's always time and room to talk about Robin Hobb on this channel! :D
I haven’t read any of these but ✍🏼 She who Became the Sun ✍🏼 and ✍🏼 Hand of the Sun King ✍🏼 sound ✍🏼 interesting ✍🏼
I’m also excited to read The Empire’s Ruin!
Now i'm even more excited to read she who became the sun! I really want to read dreams of the dying but it's so expensive 😫
She Who Became the Sun comes out three weeks from now! And I totally understand... the hardcover of Dreams of the Dying is worth the money, but it's still expensive! :/
I really need to read Helm of Midnight, it sounds amazing! Your copy of Dreams of the Dying is pretty awesome 🙂
Yes you do! And Dreams of the Dying is one of the most beautiful books I own! 😊
Hi Petrik. Impressive list of quality books. I have read 93 books this year.
My Best Books of 2021 So Far!
1. Rise of the Silvan by R.K. Lander
2. Dragontiarna books 8-10 by Jonathan Moeller
3. Memories of Prophecies by Davis Ashura
4. The Blood of the Spear by Mark Timmony
5. The Tiger’s Imperium by Marc Alan Edelheit
6. A Clash of Fates by Philip C. Quaintrell
7. The Song of the First Blade by T.C. Edge
8. Bloodline by Will Wight
9. Wraithblade by S. M. Boyce
10. The Shadow of the Gods by JG
That's probably will be my quantity for this year. 😅 i've read only Bloodline and Shadow of the Gods from your list, still need to catch up!
Congrats on 9 months on booktube! 🥳 Also, 51 books ain't bad at all. I started reading in the middle of my second semester in May and only finished 9 books lol 💀
Thank you so much, Bella! I'm definitely still proud of what I've read this year so far! And hey, 9 books since May is awesome!
Love this list! Orka is awesome! Do you need to have read Staveley's previous work, or can you dive straight into the new release?
Will
Thank you, Will!
@@HooptyHoops no need to push it if it didn't work for you! Sometimes that happens! 😁
@@PetrikLeo well then I need to dive into his debut! Even thinking of reading Tawny Man first makes me shiver. Sacrilege! hahah.
Will
So far in 2021 I read The Stand for the first time finally - easily the best book I’ve read this year and def in my all time top 20
In terms of published this year, Shadow of the Gods is my fav so far
I loved a lot of parts in The Stand, but not gonna lie, the ending didn't really work for me. xD Loved King's characterizations so much in that book, though!
And yayyy for Shadow of the Gods!!! :)
Great list and video.
Thank you so much, Joseph! 😁
So interested in Riyira (spelling?)
Basically if it's on you top ten it's going on the tbr
Acts of Caine may happen for me next year
Also where should I start with Staveley?
Riyria is so fun, Jimmy, and I'm confident you're going to love Heroes Die! For Staveley, start with The Emperor's Blades. His prose is sooo good! 😍
@@PetrikLeo thanks friend
My favorite book I've read so far this year was 'Words of Radiance'. Also 'She Who Became the Sun', 'The Shadow of the Gods' and 'The Empire's Ruin' are all on my most anticipated releases of this year. Now that they have the Petrik seal of approval I'm extra excited to check these out :D
Words of Radiance is VERY hard to beat. That will probably become your best book of the year. But the 3 books you mentioned are all worth a read! 😊
Anyway I can't wait to read each and every one of these😍😍
Oh well done!! I'm impressed you managed to guess top three correctly!! I'll say that you got it correct with the number 1 spot, too! :)
"Which of these 10 books interests you the most?" Well Petrik, let me tell you: I have either read them, pre-ordered them or they are VERY high on my TBR thanks to you ;)
I cannot believe I have only one more week of waiting left before I can read The Empire's Ruin, I simply cannot wait to see Gwenna again!

@@PetrikLeo Thank you!! I will definitely share my thoughts with you 😊
I've read so many good books this year so far.
I just started Cradle!!! Unsouled was fantastic.
And that's the weakest book of the entire series, imo! You have a lot of incredible books ahead. Enjoy, Andrew!
Unsouled is the weakest in the series imo ! If you felt it was fantastic then you are in for a ride !

Yeah I guess it is, Larry! And I'm glad you got Cradle while they're free. They're awesome! Better to have them first! :p
Absolutely! I think I'll make Wars of Light and Shadow my priority for next year. The series is quite likely to be completed next year! 😄
* Petrik super stoked talking about books at high speed non stop...meanwhile, soft, relaxing piano music plays in the background. *
Perfect balance, little brother. Love the video.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR SHE WHO BECAME THE SUN!!! IT'S JULY SO RELEASE DATE SOON!
YESS! 3 more weeks, Angelica!! :)
Somebody should give tor and orbit awards for the best covers because damn the covers this year have been so good
Both of them have been spectacular in cover art department this year!
@@PetrikLeo yup, they have been phenomenal this year along with many self published covers who have been as good as the traditional published ones, this is a good year for book cover connoisseurs 😂
Jack the ripper meets Mistborn? I need to check out "The Helm of Midnight." lol
Yesss! Definitely give it a try! 😊
I know dreams of the dying is part of a series, but can it be read as a standalone? If yes, it will probably become the top priority on my tbr.
@@PetrikLeo Okay Petrik, help me choose which trilogy to start this month. 'Chronicle of the unhewn Throne' or 'The wounded kingdoms' ?

I haven't heard of that book before! xD

@@PetrikLeo It had a great build-up that's way for me it seemed a little disappointing, but still enjoyed the book and I will preorder the next ones.
do i need to read original Unhewn series before Empire's Ruin?
