I really like this jacket and wanted to get one alas no one has my size so I opted for the Vantage.
I had a Palm Stikine dry suit for many years and I am always impressed with the quality of the product.

Would you recommend this jacket to also be worn with a long John wetsuit in the winter?

Yes definitely. That could be a good lower layer.
Maybe with a good upper base layer on top half also ie, Lightweight fleece style jump top?
