I have E6410 with i7 720QM quad core and 90 watt power supply. Everything works perfect with zero problems. My i7 is turbo boosting to 2.9 ghz on 1 core and works at 933 mhz on idle :) I have video with it. Cheers!
If you have the $$, I would invest in the Intel i7-640M Dual core processor. The base clock is 2.8GHz. But, the turbo boost is an impressive 3.46GHz for a 1st Gen ix (where x= 3, 5, or 7) processor. Yes, you get 2 extra cores w/the i7-720QM. But, you sacrifice the speed.
Hey have you heard that several ones of this model has a problem with the cursor, which keep moving erratically, the problem is in the trackpoint do you know how to fix it

Great laptop! Although: 1) the people putting higher than 35 Watt TDP CPUs into it are really not the smartest (heat is already an issue with 35W i5) 2) and also the people saying they got 16 Gb of RAM into it are liars 3) the people putting W10 & W11 kinda seem strange as this is far outside of what the laptop was supposed to handle, they are very intensive OSes which also have no dedicated drivers I made a bypass for the CPU fan which sacrifices one USB port to be able to provide the fan with full on 5V, 0.5A power, my idle temps on the CPU are ~27-31 degrees, thinking of adding a discrete potentiometer for analogue fan control :) If I am able to improve the cooling further, I will look into putting an i7 in there. 3rd party companies make optical disk drive "blower" modules which get a lot of cool air circulating into the laptop - the nvidia chip however is a poor bastard that's almost always 10C hotter than the CPU. Shame about the 8Gb RAM limit though!
I upgraded mine with a 940XM and a custom cooling solution 16GB RAM , which does in fact work, so I wouldn’t assume people are lying about that, 500 GB MX500 SSD Wifi 6 (802.11 ax)
@@PrjctWRX "Custom cooling solution"? Would love to see some pictures, I have lots of ideas but it takes a long time to design something that looks professional. And you have the "i7-940XM", why? First of all, congrats, you're running 25 watts higher TDP cpu than is designed, unless your "cooling solution" is really good, - your idle temps are probably 60s or 70s. If you look up this CPU on the intel website, you'll see it can only handle 8 Gb of RAM, so people saying they can run 16 Gb is not good enough proof, post a quick video or some pictures. People have been able to boot with 16 Gb of RAM but have had crashes/shutdowns once the OS actually tries to use more than 8 Gb of ram. It just seems like you're lying, dude.
@@andreivaughn1468 I’ll try and make a video and post it when I can, I’m actually quite proud of what I was able to do with this little laptop and it was a fun process to do so
@@PrjctWRX Ok, well, thanks. And please try to understand my skepticism - so far I've only ever seen people saying it, and never anyone showing it (no photos, or anything online), so it seems strange to me. I am quite proud at the moment of what I've been able to do for the temps by maxing out the CPU fan (despite the fact there's no way to control fan speed via pwm on this laptop). I have found a great i7 which is 2 cores 4 threads and only 25 Watt tdp, I think it would run very cool. But if there's some way to get 16 GB of ram I might just throw my old plan out of the window and try to get that working. Keep me updated if possible! The video doesn't have to be crazy, just fire up task manager "performance" tab and start using ram!
