@@Cryharder-k2d Yes...and they are paying for senior pensions in Ukraine, while Canadian seniors can't afford rent bills, or food! Instead of bringing our pensions up to par with inflation, they are giving it to a foreign country. Enough is enough!
Im sure they are. But lets not pretend that workers and the middle class are probably manipulated by the less ethical among the ultrawealthy to fight for scraps while they buy yachts off the wealth workers generate. Just my thoughts.
Executives won’t negotiate. Their salaries and bonuses are guaranteed. They own Purolator and a couple other courier services. So they make more money during strike as other couriers get busier. Not sure why this isn’t a conflict of interest and why bonuses are guaranteed. Also they have cut pay by more than 15% from 5 years ago then offer 11% of 5 years and they won’t guarantee another pay cut.
Why do we subsidize a courier company? FedEx and Amazon have to make it work on their own. They should get a subsidy to if taxpayers want to blow their money.
@ it isn’t subsidized. 34 billion is being spent on management salaries and have 31 VPs no cuts to them is on table. They have been getting raises while cutting normal worker pay.
I use 3 different national postal systems, US, UK and, Canada Post. By far the Canadian system is the worst, this is not a dig at the workers but, a reality. Every aspect is poor, slow, expensive, open to theft.
I noticed that nowadays, most of my domestic parcels are sent by these independent local delivery companies rather than Canada Post. I have this option since I live in large city. I don't think there is much option for people living in more remote areas.
We are shooting ourselves in the foot not building cheap, easily accessible EVs in Canada right now. The Carbon Tax was a blunder because it targeted the Canadian voting public, while ignoring that 80% of Canadian pollution comes from heavy industry. If there is to be a tax it should be on producers alone, and there must be something in place to ensure that they are NOT passing the cost on to the consumer.
It's estimated that Earth only has 7 year's worth of the materials needed to make Lithium batteries if 100% of new cars being built are ev's. We really need better energy storage and conversion options for vehicles.
Why shouldn’t it be passed on to the consumer? Who is demanding this majorly polluting service? Why should the business be penalized for something the public chooses to consume? If you feel it’s bad for the environment, I guess you should find options that you feel are not and the cost of those producers won’t be passed to you.
@carleem4559 It should not be passed to the consumer because the consumer is not responsible for cleaning up the producer's mess. Nobody is demanding this majorly polluting threat - everyone is demanding that we have a sustainable future. Businesses should be penalized for the negative impact of their products, to the point of being shut down entirely if they fail to show any responsibility. We have other options that do not create nearly as much waste and are far more sustainable while also costing less than hydrocarbons to create the same amount of energy, sustainably. Anyone telling you otherwise is an addict and wouldn't change their opinion because they are sick.
GIVE THE POSTAL WORKERS WHAT THEY ARE ASKING. THEY WORK HARD. THEY WANT TO SAVE THEIR FAMILIES, SAVE THEIR HOMES. THEY CAN'T DO THAT UNLESS THEIR WAGES ARE RAISED, AS ANY OTHER TRADE. WAGES NEEDED TO BE RAISED ALL ACROSS THE BOARD NOT JUST FOR THE POLITICAL LEADERS. THAT'S WHERE THE WAGES NEED TO BE CUT.
I don't know how postal workers could ask for more money when the organization is losing money every year for the last 15+ years. Like any business, it has to restructure to become profitable again. You can't keep running to the government and taxpayers have to fund your salaries and pension plan which we all know public servants are well paid and very good retirement.
Our government is a farce only in place to keep the colonized citizens taxed. WE ARE NOT independent in Canada . We still report to the crown of Ewgland
We do know that processed food makes you hungrier and unhealthier, and you need to eat much more of it to feel full. So what about only having healthy whole foods in the food bank. You would never less food, and people would be healthier.
Canada Post is a dinosaur, and the postal workers are always whining about how they don't have something or other -- what else is new? I remember back in the 70s when they went on strike every second year at Christmas. I was talking to one of the postal workers who told me: "It's the only time of year we can go on strike." In other words, it's the only time of year when they can be a thorn in the side of the public, which is who the postal workers are always playing, hoping they can make them mad enough and thus draw them into the issue. Folks and small businesses need to be able to read between the lines, and see the real colors of the postal workers.
Governments chicken out before the unions. However, if they take action to disolving unions that harm the productivity, hurt the economy, or give the nation a bad reputation, then the people win. It has shown in S. Korea, not giving into red unions always powergrabbing, and striking for the purpose of just to pocket some easy cash.
They are not dissolving unions. Even public employees are unionized. Canada Post is just not economically feasible the way it is. They could deliver using drones, autonomous cars, and numerous over innovations, which would make their business profitable.
Actually korea has a huge wealth gap issue. Its so bad now that the birthrate has fallen below replacement levels from long work hours, not great productivity from burnout, and suppressed wages for many in the middle class. Unions within reason can help alot. France and Germany have better living standards and stronger middle classes. Also far better work life balance of 5 or 6 weeks off, and productivity that rivals the us while still being family friendly. Read on it. Just my opinion.
Painful to see many sale flyers every day in the mail and perhaps once a month a letter. The service is only if weather permits . What ever happened to the slogan... Rain sleet hail or snow etc ?? Guess that was never Canadian it was likely American. Class action law suit agains private carriers if they refuse service to people or businesses. Discrimination !!! Rich unions are dictatorial.
The gov't just snapped out nearly 3 billion to another company and the public heard nothing about it until it was all over. Tell me again how that can't be done with a crown corporation providing an essential service to the public.
They want a 22% increase. That's 6% per year! In a job that is dying and has far less need than 25 years ago. Plus, pension. Why do we sheepish taxpayers put up with this nonsense? Private sector will struggle to get over 2% over this time period.
New employees make just above minimum wage i read. It goes up by seniority, i heard. But while i am neutral. I do appreciate the role unions play in getting us labor rights and keeping pressure up to protect the middle class to sustain our economy. We have no middle class, we have no real economy is the way i see it. And yes the timing is awkward, but management had a year to fix these issues as i heard. Just my opinion.
They are already overpaid for the unskilled labor they do also they are the worst delivery service I have ever dealt with, that's why I use other companies. They are lucky they even have a union. Trash service guaranteed with Canada Post, I hope they get nothing.
Multmillion dollar restoration of a building but no money for jobs. Millions to support a war but no money for Canadians in need. Food banks struggling to help... Our government is so pathetic. (I'm surprised that comments on these videos are allowed today.)
