Bummed that Donny Cates had to deal with some unfortunate stuff in his personal life, so he didn't get to finish his Thor Run. But Al Ewing's here, and Thor is wearing his classic suit, he's speaking like Shakespeare-adjacent, the covers are drawn by Alex Ross, and he just outsmarted a primordial god. This may be a run to rival his Immortal Hulk run.
I for one was looking forward to seeing the Donny Cates run. He started out hot with the Black Winter & Galactus storyline. @@tyrannicaltypomichaeltester
i am happy cates is gone, his ideas are mid and he doesnt know how to end a story. this is probably going to be an actual good thor run after so many years
Imho, Loki is getting this "good guy" treatment due to MCU's portrayal of the character and the fact that Tom Hiddleston is such a phenomenal Loki. He essentially made Loki a good person through sheer popularity and incredible acting.
When I heard "Utgar" I went *straight* to the actual mythology. There is a story of "Utgard-Loki" and well... and he's a trickster type who gave Loki and Thor impossible challanges. The funniest one is Thor was given a drinking contest, and just couldn't win somehow. He was *drinking the oceans to a measurable amount.* He was drinking basically the embodiment of the ocean as a drinking cup. Dude was so terrified of what they were capable that he kicks them out, and makes his home *magically dissapear.* Edit: oh and he's a Frost Giant in the story. Not an Elder God (to my knowledge.)
Útgarða-Loki is not a frost giant, just a giant. Frost giants aren't really a thing (as a race) in Norse mythology. That's just something Marvel made up.
Yup. In the actual mythology Thor was given a 3 challenge. The other two is wrestling (or arm wrestle I don't really remember) an old lady and lifted a cat. Thor fail all three but it was revealed that the old lady was Death itself and the cat is The World Serpent.
The fact that Thor has the Power Cosmic, the Phoenix Force and the full totality of the All Power running through his veins is insane. The fact that Thor hit Toranos with a lightning blast with the force of the All Power behind it, and it did absolutely nothing to him is crazy. It goes to show you that the Utgard Gods are beyond the All Power. If this story goes the way I think it will, then Thor might get another upgrade to defeat Toranos and the rest of the Utgard Gods.
He doesn't have all the power of the Phoenix force, it's not like he's possessed by the actual phoenix force itself literally, and when did it ever say he still retained the power cosmic? Yeah.......none of what you said is correct
@@Alexander-Lionheart_1881 future King Thor gets PF when cosmic ronan wolverine gives it to him in his battle against a juiced up Dr. Doom. And he did have the power cosmic until he unleashed the totality of it to kill the Black Winter. And of course now he is in possession of the Odin force aka Thor force. All things considered he could be put in a position to attain powers beyond even Rune King Thor. Which would be pretty sweet. I still wish to see the Vision of the Black Winter come to pass. I’ve Always like Thor’s story but it was missing something without his brother. Even in Loki’s mischief he was missed, they are two sides of one coin needed to break a cycle. Each incomplete without the other.
Immortal Hulk. Now, Immortal Thor. These are the type of Thor Stories that I've long wanted! 👊👊✊✊👏👏👌👌 I knew that the Cycle of Ragnarok had to return with the Elder Gods.
I'm a huge Thor fan forever! And I like when the stories are more about his Asgardian and godly or cosmic histories. This one dealing with the Elder Gods, who clearly are on a much higher power level has been great! I remember in one Avengers story years ago, Thor even commented that he was nearly as powerful as all the other Avengers combined. I never thought it made any sense for Thor to be dealing with common low level supervillains and such.
Whats interesting is basically Al Ewing is using the Shadow Elders or Council in a way that basically sets them up to be like the Titans in Greek Mythology. Its an interesting twist and Parallel but Im more curious to see if my guy can overcome these two challenges that awaits him
This Toranos seems like a reference to the Celtic god Taranis. He was the god of thunder and the sun(the wheel being a representation of the sun or fate in some cases in Celtic or Germanic belief). I find it interesting that with his status, he is larger than Thor, much like the Greek Titans are to the Olympians.
Nail on the head with that, very much seems like Utgard Thor and the rest of the ones in shadows or shadow council are basically being reshuffled and used as the Greek equivalent to the Titans
My honored host THOR has had the power to open dimensional portals since forever. Thor just rarely uses it. It connected to his hammer NOT the Odin force. Yet you are correct that after the fact he used the Odin force to repair everything except bringing back the dead from the incident. The oldest time that I can accurately remember Thor opening a portal was when Count Nephera was very powerful and was taking out the whole avengers team and giving Thor a hard run for his money. At the end it was the Vision that delivered the final blow knocking the count OUT.
I must say this is shaping up to be a very kool story cant wait to see where this goes and im loving the all new Loki very kool indeed great video ! 👌✅⚡
I wish that Loki becomes one, permanent, strong character who can defeat people like Scarlet Witch, Dormammu, Chthon, Galactus, and probably all of those heavy hitters.
The brotherly love between Loki and Thor is so human and realistic, they fight all the but they always come back to each other, it's really cool to see that they are making the asgardians less godly and giving us New gods since the celestials are irrelevant now!
they need to be careful about the consistency with the power scaling here (like they ever are!!) Gaea and other Elder Gods appear to be Earth based/Planetary level primordial deities. Probably above Skyfather level, but below cosmic Universal level entities like Phoenix, Celestials, and yes, even Galactus. (Which we've previously seen Donny Cates mess up aplenty in his Thor run)
@IStevenSeagal that's crazy. Galactus has been so nerfed. Ideally, if Galactus came to details our your world, and you had sky father level entities, then he should be able to overcome them. I guess Odin has meddled in the greater galaxies affairs, so is not just an earth based deity, and I guess same could be said about Chuthon, but Gaea is traditionally just an Earth spawned God...
I feel like if you encase that God in adamantium mixed with uru and some other element the one from the white hot room you could imprison him and use him like Thor used the cosmic storm
Really wish for us to stick with the god of stories for longer and explore that concept better. Also was enjoying seeing a more morally grey loki, evil loki and Tom Hiddlestone looking loki is are kinda tiring.
I think lokis new form has to do with his elder god version. I think somehow he figured out how to harness his power, or merge with him or something. And he’s going to put thor through a bunch of bs to push him to get stronger so he can gain his own kingly power if that makes sense. Itd be super cool if this sets Thor up to become rune king thor or some version of it, as we know Oden gave his eye for wisdom, so thors sacrifice must be greater so he can be a better leader.
Fun fact thor have a lot of siblings thru his mother Gaea. Another fun fact the elder god mithras from Yazata pantheon are thors brother. Mithras the God light, heaven and hel are virgin birthed by Gaea. He was very active in hyborian age.
A true enemy wouldnt ask you such things. Therefore its evident that loki forcees the need to be his trickster self in order to save the day. Thor trusts this honesty.
Toranos is based on Taranis, the Celtic god of thunder, he is often portrayed as an old man with a lightning bolt in one hand and a wheel in another, exactly how we see here. Osthur of the Vishanti is also an elder god
There have been hints that They Who Sit Above in Shadow are elder gods before - either originals, or gods who've been around so long that they've run out of worshippers. I wonder if Crom is among them. I rather like the "instant fatigue" concept as a way of letting Thor retain the Odinpower while at the same time making it still possible to write stories about him. It's very similar to the old problem with using his belt of strength, and not unreasonable; he doesn't have the eons of practice that his father had in wielding the power, and he's using it on Earth when it originates in Asgard. As for Loki...I'm reminded of the end of the Kid Loki run, when he broke the fourth wall while saying that he couldn't be permanently good because they (the readers of the comic) wouldn't let him. That may have been trumped by the viewers of the movies, but we'll see. Hopefully whatever happens will be more interesting than a simple reversion.

Loke's power might put him on par or above TOAA actually, with his power he could literally rewrite the enitre history of marvel comics. Its like if Deadpool had not only 4th wall breaking powers but had the ability to write them as well. Of course he was there when they introduced the concept of a greater being than TOAA, he could be that being playing a part in his own story.
