It always looks easy when you're watching someone else do the work!!
LOL, ain't it the truth!
Sweetness!!!!!
Skipper, please, do an update when they bloom next Spring 👣
I'll do it!!! Just for you, Mamagoose
Beautiful
mrs. Kincaid is a real trooper doing all that work! Kudos to her! :)
Somebody had to do it, haha. She's the best wife, friend, and partner I could have ever asked for.
Why is her name not on the channel? Not that cool!
If I could just get my husband to do this. Your wife must be so proud. Great video.
She loves it every spring!
That felled tree as a feature is an awesome idea.
I got tired of bucking firewood a couple years ago and stopped there, LOL. The tree started out twice as big.
Alright that is a really fun video.
Well then maybe I need to do more like it.
Hey Mike, a couple of discing tips from a farm boy: Loosen or extend that 3rd link so both rows of discs are hitting the ground evenly. Get a little more speed so the discs have enough inertia to throw the dirt and turn it over. Some people add weight, but if your ground is soft/wet enough, it's not needed.
Love the new bed, we need to get a property tour sometime. I'd like to see everything you've transplanted to your place :)
Eventually, I plan to have tours. I've been using this disc for different things around here for a long time now and it definitely does its job best when I plow first. In this case I just wanted to rough things up a little. I'd really like to come up with a chain attatchment for the top link so it can be flexible and ride the contours of the ground better.
Wonderful ideas since we are converting more to gardening on our farm after retirement and I want to create some gorgeous landscapes.
It's so rewarding in the long run and the initial work pays you back more and more for years to come as the landscape matures!
Love your enthusiasm Mike! Work smarter not harder and yes we got to get a auger for our Ford power master 🙂
As long as the pto is independent, you will be very happy. I use to have an old Ford 9n and the pto would turn while the tractor was moving. This made it difficult to use an auger because every time I moved to a new hole, the auger was still turning while I was driving. Great implement though, and it cuts down hours of digging time.
Working garden always has things to break! Nice garden. Thanks for sharing.
Mike:well done you! your girls will never want to leave this lovely space you are creating.
That's my selfish intent, haha. When they get married, I'll offer them the property and home for free as long as Shellie and I can build a little mother in law suite on the back of the property. It's all part of my selfish plan to be taken care of some day, LOL.
Beautiful!!!!!!! I love our 10 acres of rhodies. Love you!!!
Me too!!! Love you too!
Mike. Your videos inspired . Today checked cuttings from a few months back. Roots on roses.. gardenia.. crype Myrtle's..boxwood..privet.. arborvitae..an two other shrubs I don't know what they are..but pretty. Your methods really work. I was truly surprised at how well . It's easy an fun. I'm retired an this could help are some income . Blessed to have found you on utube. Thank you Mike.
Glad you're enjoying the videos and learning from them. If you focus on it, you really can make good money selling plants. It could be as simple as finding an expensive and desirable plant that you like to grow and then obsessing on getting really good at propagating that one plant. Then just post them on Ebay. It's so much fun and very rewarding. Glad you're getting into it, Dean!
It will be amazing when they bloom
Looking forward to showing you next spring.
Wow! Beautiful! Upgrading your land paradise of flowers!💐
We're always working on making it better! Thanks for watching, Barbara.
Looks nice! Bravo!👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much, Tracy!
Looks gorgeous already! Lots of hard work, but I agree, the pothole digger makes work easier! We need to invest in one. Our corall needs all new posts!💚
If you have post holes to dig then I highly recommend it. I've dug a lot of post holes by hand and I'll tell you that when you use the tractor post hole digger you'll just laugh at yourself for doing it by hand all those years.
Wooh.. Another fun & exciting video.. Thanks for always inspiring us..😊❤️
My pleasure 😊
Looks great! You'd love the gigantic rhody in my in-law's yard. It's MASSIVE, and beautiful.
Sounds great! I love my rhodies!!!
I love your choice of music background. My husband would really like to have a tractor also. Sure makes yard jobs easy.
They're all around. I saved my pennies and found this old '68 Ford tractor for $3200. The only problem is that it doesn't have a loader. The backhoe came later and I found that one for $4500. They both require a lot of upkeep though due to their age. Sure would be nice to drop $65,000 on a new Kubota M47.
Great video! Now we wait till next year to see them bloom. Great job hubby, looking good!
Can't wait! Couldn't do it without you!!!
Can't wait to see their flowers
Next spring I'll be getting pictures!
Fun way to dig holes. Who would have thought.
LOL, yes, so much easier. It came as an idea after many years of hand digging. Wish I had that implement 17 years ago.
Nice job !
Thanks!
What a great video! Thanks, Mike for sending this to me. It is really awesome to see the process! This is getting exciting! I can't wait to get mine into the ground!
Just wait, it gets better every year as they get established.
Looks fantastic
Thanks, Jean!
well done Mike they looks great i love you love David
Thanks, David
THANK YOU GOD WORKS IN Mysterious WAYS THERE IS A PLANT I NEVER Brailed BEFORE NOW HERE YOU COME JUST A FEW SHORT DAYS LATER SHOWING ME WHAT I BRAILED WOW, COOL.... THANK YOU
You're very welcome, Lucy. To me, rhododendrons are the greatest landscape plant ever and I've planted probably close to 1000 of them around my property. Thanks for watching and God bless you.
cool video, Beautiful plant bed by big log !!
I love your beautiful vintage farm tractor, sorry of it busted.
wonderful video ! lol.😁😁👋👋🌿🌿🚜🚜
Wow I can't wait to see them blooming!
I'll have videos for you next spring.
Mike great job! Well done! 💯👍🌹
Thank you! 👍
Rebuilding 3 hydraulic cylinders today myself. You got it going on Mike. Looks great
Good luck. Some day I'll have newer equipment. The Backhoe is so old that the company has been out of business for decades and there aren't many parts out there for it.
You definitely make it look easy! I've never grown rhoddies before but I am feeling inspired. I love your choice of music!!
Thank you so much, Cindy! These really are the most beautiful landscape plant in my opinion. Glad to inspire!
Hey Mike, I wish it would take as much time as you played the video to do all that. I can't wait to see it in bloom! It's going to be gorgeous! Always fun to see you and all your energy as I was just getting a spike of arthritis pain on my knees. Hugs all around! 🤗🤗💜
You watch and I'll plant. I'll have it all ready for you to enjoy whenever you guys make it out this way.
Oh, you are the best! I have to find something in my budget which is not as big, God willing it will happen!
Wonderful job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love it can't wait to see them in bloom.
I'm already excited for next spring, Ralph.
"perfect" Mike! been waiting a long time for this vid, great job
Glad you liked it!
Beautiful job and beautiful garden space! I just finished a no dig area in my yard! Tis the season
Thanks! Enjoy your garden next spring.
@@MikeKincaid79 Yes sir! I've transplanted plants all day. Hope it's not too late
Looks very nice !
Thank you, Ellie!
you welcome Mike love David
Beautiful...I have only my balcony.... Praise The Lord for my balcony never minde 😁
You can turn that little balcony into a paradise!
@@MikeKincaid79 I'll try to,have great ideas but don't have money. Will see when spring comes, everything is possible 😁
Looks great mike changes look of landscape good job👍
Thanks, Ray. I love putting in these rhododendron beds and they pay dividends years down the road.
Never mind I saw your mention of wood chips
Love that ........we have a couple rodys to plant but digging the holes is on hold as my husband had emergency open heart surgery so it will be a while. Next year it's looking like. I have them toed into the ground in the gallon buckets however so they should last me another year. I hope you show that rody bed when everything is blooming. It's going to be gorgeous.
Blessings
I'll show it for sure! Sorry to hear about your husband and I hope he recovers quickly.
@@MikeKincaid79 Thank you so much!
That looks wonderful..cant wait to see it in a couple yrs. 😊🌳
More videos to come!
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow Amazing video
Thanks!
I would have watered the holes before planting…but nice job Ned
Looks terrific, Mike! Great job.
Thanks, Judy! Already looking forward to next spring.
I really hope mine make it so I can do that
You can do this! Just keep going and don't give up.
Nice. Looking forward to seeing'em grow.
You and me both, George!
mike next year im gonna grow same flowers and veg and fruits too love David
Sounds great. I'm already looking forward to next spring.
We live in north Georgia, and have lots of wild rhododendron's growing in the woods, not sure ive ever noticed them blooming though, Ive thought about moving some into the shady parts of our yard to see how they do
They make beautiful landscape plants. I don't think you'd be disappointed by moving some into your yard.
You make fun videos 🙌 love how it turned out, can’t wait to see it next year. 👍
Thanks! Me too!!!
Good job
Thanks
It looks great. Good job👍👍!!
Thank you, Darla! 😊
Love the music choice
Thanks, I'm never sure if it will work or not but I take chances with it. Glad it worked out this time.
Nice job, Mike!
Thanks, Dan!
Looks really good man enjoyed the video 👍
Thanks, Mark, now I need to go through some of my older beds and clean them up and re-mulch. I may film that too.
Mike, it's too bad that you're having trouble with the PTO on your tractor. Hopefully, that issue will be fixed in time for you to plant the green giant arbs. Using the posthole auger on your tractor really seemed to take the bulk of the hard work out of planting so many rhododendrons. I wish I was your neighbor, so I could enjoy all of those beauties in bloom next spring! ~Margie
Yeah, I need to spend some time working on it, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Hopefully I'll have it fixed soon before it gets too cold outside. I'd like to go into next spring with it working. Sure did make life a lot easier!
Searching for how to make flower beds, this looks like a good video. Video begins. Let's get the tractor and get after it. Ok, great. Time to purchase a tractor, I'll be back.
Hahahaha, that's pretty funny. Don't spend too much money, lol
Extremely satisfying to watch! I’m in Southern Idaho and have been watching for a couple years now wondering if I’m able to grow a successful rhododendron bed. I just came across Taurus and Solidarity for $10 a piece so I said what the heck! I’m curious, with all that mulch, how far in the actual soil do you think those were planted? I wish mulch was so readily available here!
Probably about 3/4 of the roots are in soil.
Looks great!
P.s I like your music 🎶.
Thanks!
Needs a border to separate grass
After 50 years (now 77) tried to root rose cuttings from a very special ROSE via your soda bottle over the cuttings. I put in 3 and 2 are growing. How long do I wait before taking them out and pot them separately. With cool weather now and winter coming , should I just let them grow till spring in our homebuilt greenhouse- not much of a greenhouse - but it did carry over a lot of plants last winter. Just need advice on what to do with rose cuttings NOW. TKS.
Great job, Sharon. Don't do anything drastic with them. Just leave them all in the same container that they're in and yes, keep them in that greenhouse for protection. When early spring comes and plants start to wake up, you can separate the roses and up-pot them into bigger individual pots. Then they'll have all summer to grow bigger roots.
Well done!!
Thanks, Cynthia!
Love the video and love the music 😂. Nice job!!!
Thanks, I'm always experimenting with music.
Nice video Mike! would love to know which ones you put in there, seems very close together, are some smalls/dwarfs? I bought 3 new ones this week Germania, Red Jack and Marcel Menard, they are small so will up pot and hold till next year to plant. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Denis. They are very close together and 10 years from now it will show but I like the "salad bowl" look. I also love pruning so I'll have plenty to do when I'm old, lol.
Hey Mike... thank you for always answering the comments..
I have an idea of planting 5 or 6 different rose cutting in one old garbage bin 75 L. After they have rooted
I want to make my own bouquet ..
What do you think?
The 75L bin will be too small?
How many plant should be planted in this bin?
Sounds like a cool idea! The number of roses really depends on how deep and wide the bin is but as long as you keep them fertilized and watered, you can fit many of them in their and grow them well for several years until they need to be root pruned.
@@MikeKincaid79 thanks a lot
Hello iam here 🤗
Hello 😊
My local nursery is trying to get rid of all their rhododendrons before winter so they're all on sale right now for $5 I think I'm going to copy this project LOL
You won't regret it in a few years when they have some size on them and are blooming.
damn, you work fast mike. ha. thanks for those tractors. looks like lifting weights has made you into muscle man.it really turned out really well. --- I got my air purifier together. thanks to you and your ingenuity i saved big bucks and my health. thanks, carmine.
Awesome! Glad to hear it's working out for you Carmine. It's funny when I watch these videos after making them. It was a lot of work and took all summer but it looks fun and easy in 10 minutes, haha.
Hopefully I am not repeating this question! I am planning on making a new garden bed and need to order soil soon. What did you use as soil/bedding for this rhododendron bed? I like the mounded shape!
The mounded shape just came as a result of what you saw, wood chips, grass clipping, and bark. I don't recommend buying soil or dirt. Usually, the dirt those places bring is mostly sand and dirt with no life in it. I recommend planting in the soil you have and ammending with organic material over time like leaves, grass clipping, wood chips, and bark. You can use compost and manures too.
I've read about these being toxic to animals and humans (?) sometimes causing skin irritation, what's the deal with that? your video inspired me to plant some
I've been working with rhododendrons for over 17 years and never had a reaction to them. I get the leaves rubbing all over me while pruning. Every part of the plant is toxic if you eat it but other than that, there's no problem. And I'd venture to guess that most of the worlds plants are toxic if you eat them.
Wisteria seems to be a woodsy plant and it grows fast. Is it possible to root a cutting? One of my cats chewed the middle of a vine section and I wonder if I can root it at the point it was chewed. Wouldn't mind being able to spread the plants around my home instead of just from two places. Thanks in advance.
very nice!!!
Thanks!!
Wow, way to get things done 👍 I just have to ask, I was told to plant my rhododendron so it sit a inch or so above ground level, but looks like yours are planted deep. Do zones make a difference in depth levels, I’m in zone 6. Thanks for sharing looking forward to seeing your rhododendrons in the spring. 👍❤️😊
They are actually planted right at or just a hair above ground level in this video but I put such a thick layer of wood chips down that it looks like they're deep. You're doing it right. The roots are fine and hair like and stay shallow so as long as you don't plant too deep in dirt and keep plenty of airy organic mulch on them, they'll do fine.
Funniest thing I took away from this. People that say they can’t do this.
“I can’t do that, I don’t have a tractor etc”
Scale buddy! Scale!
Baby steps😊
Haha, that's it! I started without anything and still did it by hand, just took me a little longer.
Yep and you can do a no dig really easily and fast!
Truth of the matter How do you plant Rhododendrums no dig style? I’d love to hear how you did it.
@@CuriousinNY I don't know if there's a no dig style to plant Rhododendrons besides laying your cardboard down and laying a layer of good soil, compost on top then "digging" (per usual) to plant the Rhododendrons. The no dig is for a large area so you don't have to remove sod and weeds... by the planting season the cardboard will mostly be gone and you have a garden with no grass, no weeds and ready to plant it up. I'm sorry if I was not clear in my comment. I was speaking in regards to the huge area to make such a big bed.
Truth of the matter Thanks for clearing that up.
wow this is so fucking beautiful … MY DREAM AHHHHHHHH THANK YOU FOR THIS
Make it come true!
Fantastic video Mike. Here in Vermont deer seem to love the Rhododendrons. Any suggestions to keep them at bay? I have tried various repellants. Also at 6:50 there are some magnificent red and pink bushes in the background, what are they (? roses,Bouganvilia). Kind regards, Craig
They are all rhododendrons! I've gotten a lot of comments from people over on the east coast about deer eating rhododendrons. I think you guys have terminator deer over there, LOL. Ever part of the rhododendron is poisonous and the deer over here leave them alone. The only thing I can say is that you guys must have a higher population of deer over there and so the pressure goes up and they eat anything that's green in the winter. I guarantee their bellies don't like it and a few of them probably die from this. I think the only answer is to have 7 foot high fencing.
Hi Mike great job and beautiful plants you have i just post a new video about hoyas and send to you a lot of greetings from Serbia-Europe !
I will check it out
@@MikeKincaid79 Thank you so much !
We’re those wood chips on top of bed area? Nice job on this project
Thanks, Wesley. Yep, they're wood chips.
What's the best temperature for rhododendrons to grow?
Depends on the variety. Some can take all the way down to -25F. They love our climate here in western washington where temps range from 12F to 99F. For most of the year we are in the 40 to 70 range.
What was the final top layer you used cover the flower bed?
Fir bark mulch
Perfect timing. Now will you come to my property with your tractor 🚜 😏
Hahaha, sure! I love doing this work!!!
Did you remove all the soil and replace it or just added some special soil?
I didn't remove anything, just layered the ground with wood chips, grass clipping, and a final layer of finely ground up fir bark mulch.
@@MikeKincaid79 thanks !!
Why did you cut the "potbound" roots? Wouldn't they have more than enough space to grow and expand their roots underneath the ground. I don't understand!!
It breaks the cycle of the roots circling the pot and then new roots will grow out from the plant instead of continuing the same pattern.
@@MikeKincaid79 Oh! Okay. I didn't see it that way.😘
oh cool this gonna be more fun next summer next july 3 i will be 52 i love being your bestfriend too love David
do you have or are you going to make an update video on this bed
Funny you ask. I just did an update and walkthrough of all my landscaping. The video will be up in about a week.
Why did u lay mulch before digging the holes
It's so much easier to lay the mulch without working around all the plants.
how many different varieties did you plant????
There are about 300 different varieties throughout my landscape. Not sure about the bed in this video, maybe 15.
Mike Kincaid 😲 🙂 😀
Do rhododendrons require mulch?
They do better when you mulch them well. The roots are fine and hair like and they tend to stay close to the surface so the mulch keeps them cool and gives them a good airy organic material for them to grow into.
@@MikeKincaid79 thanks so much for clearing that up for me.
Mike, Would you sell me one of your Rhodo's. My mom and I think it would be cool to have a propagated Rhodo from one of our Favorite UA-camrs. We live in Illinois. Anyhow we hope you and your family are doing well(:
I plan to set up a small mail order system. I'll probably list them on Ebay in the beginning. Is there a variety that you like?
What are the darker leaf one?
There are so many. Which point in the video did you see it?
The video time 8:07 and it’s a small one. Looks darker.
Just saying... it’s a lot easier to build a second hoop house vs cleaning. :)
Haha, funny you should mention that. That's been one of the biggest things on my mind the past few weeks. To tear down the one I have now and expand it to 20' or leave it the way it is. Tough decision.
Sir, we want to see your Jadid Technology movie
Don't have one, not sure what you're referring to.
I don’t have a tracker!
Time to pull out the shovel, lol
Giggling to myself.....Lol
........ I call my Physical Therapist a Rhody killer every visit since he told me he took out all his rhododendrons.
Grrrrrr! Rhody killer! 😆😂😂
