  • Hi there! Welcome to Episode 11 of the Top Shelf Musings Podcast where we bring you candid conversations with musicians from all walks of life. Going beyond the spotlight, uncovering personal journeys, inspirations, creative processes that shape their music, and much more!
Ep 11 features an awesome duo; from the band ‘Gamak’; Gaurav and Mrinal 💖
Gamak is a Chandigarh-based indie alternative rock and experimental four person band. With over five years of industry presence; they have released 3 singles and an EP named 'Four Lane' that consists of 4 songs; each written by one of the band members. This episode unfolds the story of Gamak, and their way of life!
Mrinal Sippy, Often called the FeelMan of the band, is the vocalist and plays both acoustic & electric guitars in Gamak. Also, he is the oldest singer-songwriter of the band. Known for his fun loving and witty personality (proved in this episode!)
Mrinal has been listening to rock and blues music for a lot of years but still ghazals and old songs top the charts for him. He is a proud indie artist, a proud Himachali, and a die-hard chicken lover. He is also gifted with the superpower of holding long, eloquent conversations with both strangers and friends at any time of the day; which we lived while taking this interview XD!
Gaurav Arora, the multi-instrumentalist of the band is loved for his soulful song writing. The singer-songwriter also plays keyboard and guitar in the band. His musical journey began with Indian Classical vocals and has continued on, with him being deeply passionate about Jazz. He has a good understanding of jazz fundamentals and improvisation on the piano and has completed Grade 6 from Rockschool.
On the other hand, his guitar playing is deeply influenced by metal and heavy rock music. We can say, Gaurav is a perfect blend of different genres adding up that fusion spunk to Gamak!
Here’s a lil insight, he dreams of doing an Indian Classical concert on a grand piano.
Well… we dream of witnessing that! ❤️
Gamak is incomplete without the other two members; Kushal Sood and Adi Negi.
Unfortunately, we could not host them in this episode but here’s all you need to know about the backbones of this band!
Proudly standing taller than the other 3. Kushal Sood is the band’s drummer and also a singer-songwriter. He hails from Uttar Pradesh and is a son of renowned classical and ghazal singer Sh. Vinod sood. Mostly influenced by 90's rock/Pop bands, Kushal is one of the founding members of Gamak and has worked with the band from the very start.
Another proud himachali of the group, Adi Negi is the band’s gravitational force! Gamak’s bassman is known for adding his chill bass vibes and grooves to the band. During the last 8 years of playing the instrument, he’s been majorly influenced by Metal and Rock, and it definitely shows every time he picks up his bass!
Tune in to our amazing conversation with the two gems as we learn about the band’s origin story, inspirations, experiences, a promise for the best chicken we'll ever eat, and more!
