Losing like this will make him learn a lot... He for sure ended his fights too fast to learn it.
But lets be real he was in boxing stance 90% of the time.
Lets hope he heals fast and try again to gain the buzz back...

To be honest I think a lot of connor’s wins in the cage where won before the fight even started. As a virtually undefeated stand-up genius, combined with his intense confidence in and outside the cage and seemingly unmatched skill, a lot of fighters didn’t believe they could beat him. After his big loss he lost that godly status and people now believe they have a chance

A big part of what made Conor a winner was his PERSONALITY outside of the octagon, tormenting fighters , making them afraid of their own reflection, planting seeds of doubt in them and just letting them grow. I think Conor's point about evolution is about learning where he went wrong and learning from it. I think he's saying that Dustin revealed the flaws in his technique, especially the less refined one he has adopted now and is refining his skills to overcome it. You learn more from losing than winning, I think thats what hes trying to say, not that his performance during the fight was the showcase of his evolution, rather that now he understands how to fix the issues he had. Thats my take on it at least.

Only criticism in this is about the stance and the hands low approach that you wanted to see . With Connor vs a orthodox fighter eg. Alvarez he would have his hands low touching the right arm of Alvarez to easily control the arm as it is the closest arm to him and then be able to counter of it. Connor vs southpaw means his lead left arm would have to reach across his body to control Dustin’s lead arm so if he had his hands down the lead arm of Connor will be controlling and touching thin air also Dustin’s right hand is uniquely his power hand so it would be extremely dangerous to go in hands down with the chance of a quick lead right hook from Dustin going for a non protected face

Hey Geordie, love the channel and honest opinions. Agreed on most points, Conor was a bit delusional with this "play by play". Dustin should fight Charlie Olives next for the belt, they should not tie up the division another 6 months for a Conor trilogy. The other option is put Chandler vs Oliveira for the belt if Dustin wants that Conor money trilogy. I honestly think both Chandler and Oliveira would school Conor after this recent performance. Flat footed, totally forgot how to fight, and the ego of just showing up and walking down a dog of a fighter is not going to cut it. Looking forward to more fight coverage, previews/post fight breakdowns of the big name title bouts etc and for the record would love to see more content geared toward guys, mental health, relationships, dealing with work, health and fitness and just how to put up with alot of the bs in modern day society, and navigating the obstacles we all face. Interesting point Kavanaugh made about the prep for the calf kicks, he said they obviously weren’t training at full clip but instead with shin pads as normal. Seems like checking for real is very different for that particular kick and the way he was checking wasn’t turning the leg enough. Also probably due to his boxing stance

  • @charliemanx194

He was flat footed and his timing was off i didnt like the stiff stance.. rust didnt help either, we will be able to tell after his next fight (if it happens).

It’s not so much about not having the answer to the calf kicks, it’s southpaw vs southpaw the kick itself is easier to land, also Conor hasn’t got much top level experience against other southpaws in actual fights, poirier has excelled A LOT over the last 6 years, Conor came to box, you can tell by the front leg heavy style, this played into Dustins plan as he clearly wanted to throw leg kicks, mistakes are costly in MMA, I think the trilogy will be a great fight, poirier deserves the title, get Conor out against another top 5 and if they either both win or both lose, set it up

I can see when someone loses the mental battle... and who wins it (I’ve been a victim of both) anyway... I honestly don’t think Connor is done.

I would say, if Conor loses again to Dustin, unless there is some very specific circumstance, then Dustin is just the best of both men at 155 hands down no question asked. Conor losing to Dustin last fight doesn't really mean too much since Conor's inactivity is far from being a lame excuse, is just a description of reality, plus the "surprise" (yes i know) factor of the kicks combined with a silly stubbornness of Conor to keep the boxing plan going on decided the fight. Now with this experience, and with a whole training camp focused in taking care of this things, things should be more even and we will see who's the better fighter for sure. Conor did great in the first round except for the eating of leg kicks of course.

It would even be worse if he tried to go harder in the 1st. He most likely wouldnt have got the knockout due to the takedown and accumulation of the leg kicks. And then after that he would be gassed out with a broken leg, lowering his chances of winning.
