Enthusiasm. 😀 And probably a lot of practice. Knowing the drawing will be (for me) a quick one at 30 minutes for this scene at this size, seems to release a looseness in my arm/hand/line work. There is more measured control if I am aiming for a more refined finish. 😀
First-time viewer. Your work is do detailed and exact! Lovely. I'm working on a Scottish landscape with a croft and was paying particular attention to the hatching/shading. May I ask what kind of pens you like to use? - Mary Jane (Canada)
Thanks Mary. I have a hatching playlist if you’re interested. ua-cam.com/play/PLwjv2r1KZs1SDR-dDw8PWMe8GzGjPuK_n.html&si=N1nsUyV0flrgEA2K I use Copic Multiliners for the line work, and Copic Sketchmarkers for the tone, using the brush end, not the chisel end. I use Neutral Grey colour for the tone, usually 4-6 tones each drawing. The markers are refillable and the pens can have their ink cartridges and nibs replaced. I mostly desaturate the colour when I post to make the tone look more even.
Love the drawing! I've been doing a mix of watercolor with pen and ink and I always found my penwork to not be the greatest, definitely subscribed to learn more tips! Btw, what pen are you using in this video? Seems like it applies more ink down with more pressure, is that true?

Generally location sketching is more challenging. A photo is already 2D. But various circumstances have made it not easily possible for me for quite a long time. I actually started drawing from photos as preparation for drawing on a trip that was cancelled 😀

Not really. I know of him from when I googled a few other drawing videos when I just started making UA-cam videos myself. So I’ve seen parts of a couple of them. But I know he’s well regarded and in terms of UA-cam has a very successful presence. He regularly comes up as suggested when I’m posted videos or monitoring things. 😀
You can slow the video to half speed via the cog symbol and still understand the voiceover. Go to my channel home page and swipe the ribbon menu bar at the top until you see COMMUNITY. That’s it. 😀
I’m confused about perspective. Your building has two facades. The one closest to you sits further back than the other. Do they have the same vanishing point?
If you mean you’ve drawn from the reference photos, Jalal, that’s fine, if you mean you’ve drawn from my drawings, that’s ok too, as long as you credit my drawing as the reference. If you’re on Instagram, you could DM me anything. Does this help. 😀
Thanks Harsh. I’m sorry, I don’t know any. Although I oil painted for ten years before I drew, I didn’t use UA-cam myself for it. Perhaps someone else can comment here to help you. 😀
i struggle to draw a really small details because i could not understand the image. for example, if it's too far , confined, and it's just too complicated but also it could affect my drawing if i mess it up, i dont know if you get what im trying to say, but, do you have any tips or what do you keep in mind, your strategy to overcome this?
I think his recommendation is to draw that feature so it conveys the essence or overall impression. I enjoy sketching and as an architect learnt a lot from watching him draw
@@Rumi1028 Ah i see, thanks ! i'm sitting for an architecture degree interview next week , i'm trying my best to impress the judges with my drawing and this guy helps me a lot. ^^ pretty nervous
Sometimes drawing the effect, not the detail works well when we can’t see the detail. If the detail is too small in the reference, then there’s a limit to how large you can draw it. Does this help?😀
Great video as always. I always pick up some new way at looking at my drawing process when watching. Thanks for the great content!
So encouraging to hear Mitch. Thanks for telling me 😀
thank you for your amazing effort to teach us about all of this!
My pleasure Aisyah
Brawo super
Thanks Pawel. 😀
WOW!! That's fantastic, Stephen! Have a nice glass of beer to celebrate! Well Done!
Thanks. Cheers!

It's a pleasure, Stephen!
Thanks a lot for the explanation Stephen ❤
Glad it helped. 😀
Thank you very much for such a amazing tutorial video
My pleasure. I have about 500 more such videos on UA-cam if you’re interested in more 😀
Thank you for sharing the video sir🙏
Hope it was helpful 😀
I love these sketches but really bad at it myself xd
I’ve improved a lot with practice, why shouldn’t you as well?
Me. Too
I really like the dynamic look of the quick sketches. Do you ever take these and add watercolors or copics afterward?
Not colour, but sometimes greyscale using COPIC Sketchmarkers. I have videos showing this if you’re interested 😀
This is a fantastic video @StephenTraversArt ! Your lines are straight and express energy ! no matter where you hold the pen. What is the secret ? 😀

Hi Stephen loving your artwork, I hope to be at your level one day. What type of paper do you use to draw on? Thanks
Thank you so much 😀. I use a 210gsm drawing cartridge. 😀

I love your videos. Do you often go out and sketch scenes in the real world? Do you find it harder to do?
Generally location sketching is more challenging. A photo is already 2D. But various circumstances have made it not easily possible for me for quite a long time. I actually started drawing from photos as preparation for drawing on a trip that was cancelled 😀
Great video! Do you mind if I ask what pen your using? Or if you have any pen recommendations besides the one you are using that would also be great.

It’s a beautiful city. Worth the effort. And amazing for an artist to draw. 😀
@@stephentraversart Thank you for
inspiration! I want to able to draw with this awesome technique, even though drawing is very challenging for me.
Hi Stephen, are you familiar with Alphonso Dunn’s work?
Not really. I know of him from when I googled a few other drawing videos when I just started making UA-cam videos myself. So I’ve seen parts of a couple of them. His Pen & Ink book is really nice. It got me started in that medium, and now I'm here.
I tried drawing as you were speaking. Had to hit the pause button a few times. Also, how do I find your Community page?

No Coco, they don’t. I have a perspective playlist with 12 videos on it I think would help you with this. 😀

Ahhh, the frustration of ink. At least with pencils we got plenty of warning they were running out!😀
