- UK guy reviews Lowa Zephyr GTX Mid TF Desert Walking / Hiking / Military Boots
If you want a great pair of boots to look good with cargo shorts or jeans - and be great support for walking through the hills or the shopping centre, look no further.
🇺🇸I bought mine in the late 2009 and the hydrolysis or the natural disintegration of polyurethane midsoles cracking started happening in November 2019 with normal use. That’s only to show you how awesome these boots are. Comfort, fit, style and durability is excellent, thanks LOWA! I hope the Zephyr style will be around for a very long time. I’m buying the same style and model next week! Lowa is the boots for me.🇺🇸
Good quality video brother! The best high quality up close i’ve found on lowa boots and badass boots i might add!
I'm glad that the top eyelets are not hooks.
I've been after some ankle supporting boots without hooks for ages to use for paramotoring.
I think after watching this ill buy some.
Good review, thanks.
I have owned three pair of the Lowa Renegade. My last pair wore quite through faster than I would have liked so I gave these a try. Good in rocky, mountainous terrain. Haven't tried them with a heavy load.
Update: My Zephyrs are going strong with very little sign of wear. All of the stitching, midsole, and sole are in great shape. Mine are also the discontinued "tan" color. I hike in mountainous, volcanic terrain. To be fair, the last pair of Lowa Renegades I owned lasted over 5 years. I wore the heel; however, I notice that I occasionally drag my foot due to a knee injury.
@@caseysimpson1806 Woild you say the zephyr is better than the renegade? I currently use the renegade and have abused them so much the tread is worn out and the stitching is falling apart everywhere so I'm looking to upgrade.
Allow! Great video quality and nice a large video of the boots. Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for your comment and for taking the time to watch the video :-)
i absolutely loved them, they're actually my size.
+roulan alvarez yea, they're great.
I recommend getting a half size bigger than your normal size.
nice review but i dont think the speedlaces are supposed to go like that, they were supposed to be pre-laced up so that when you put on the boot you just give them a pull and the rest would lace up
Bobby - thanks so much for taking the time to view and to make such a useful comment. I literally unboxed the boots "on air" and the laces in the video are exactly how I received them.
sure dude, no problem, what i meant was that you are not supposed to lace these up like other hiking boots
Cool. They certainly do tighten and loosen very easily.
These Boots look great, They are lightweight and fairly hardwearing. However they cost £170 which is £100 to much.
I agree they are pricey - got mine during a sale. Never looked back - by far the most comfortable footwear I've ever had (including slippers and sports shoes!). Thanks for watching and commenting.
What color are those boots then? I swear I been looking for LOWA boots that look like that and there are about a 1000 shades of desert color out there.
Boa Did you find them? I’m looking too but can’t find the coyote plus green or olive bottom...
@@jacobsmith818 are you still looking for these boots.
Would the gtx be okay in 30-35C weather? Am deciding between gtx and non. Am here in the tropics. Am thinking of it as daily wear. We do get heavy rain once in a while here but more often than not it’s sunny and bright. It’s just annoying to get caught up on a wet day with a waterlogged boot, but I don’t want sweaty feet all day all week too.
Her sir i definitely recommend that to you, go with gtx version. Because you are in the tropics 👍
Did you get these in the end? How were they in the heat?
How do these fair in hot weather? I'm a lady looking for a boot for work, my current Altbergs are great in winter but very bulky and far too hot in summer. Really hard to find a military ladies boot!
I don't own one but I've seen many military guys deployed in hot areas wearing them. Also you need to look for the "Ws" (womens) version of these boots.
Just my two cents, so I recommend getting an owner's opinion. Good luck.
Edit: Was watching other reviews and one owner answers your question in comments: "Best boots I ever had. Theyre warm in winter, but also get the heat out in warmer temperatures."
hi, luv the video.. how's the cushioning on these Lowa boots for long hikes? is it comfortable? will be doing the annapurna circuit in nepal this december, so will be walking n hiking for 7-8hrs a day, with roughly a 15kg pack on.
Not the most cushioned boot. Great protection from rocks, will work in off-trail situations, and carry a medium size load. Sorry I didn't see this earlier.
Nice, what about the sizing on the length, I am 11 in Clarkes and Adidas wide'ish foot, I like toe wiggle room
I don't think the desert color has been discontinued :-)

Thank you for review. It seems to me that I interested and order in this type from you.
dwi - my pleasure. Thank you for watching.
ChinskiChat thank you. I like the color. Please, if I may how can I order it and send it to my country Indonesia
dwi - many apologies but I am not a store and do not have any to sell. Advise an internet search ...
If you are still looking for these boots I'd advise you to contact Tactical Corner in Senayan.
Hello! Do you advice these boots for winter too? like temperatures -5 till -15max celzius?
How’s the sizing? Compared to Salomon???
Hello, can these boots be worn during winter, at -10,15 C ?
Thank you !
I really wouldn't reccomend that, however it depends on how long they're supposed to be worn.
I don't know about these specific LOWA's, but personally I use Walker Dry's with polar insert (they're supposed to isolate you up to -30/40 degree celsius). They're just a bit better wellingtons, but they do their job if you have to walk around the city or stable terrain like gardens, empty winter crop fields etc. For more challenging terrain I'd suggest looking for full leather boots, I've only used some sort of "Bundesgewehr" boots, stylised for old german winter boots, except they had more modern laces and small improvements, lined inside with goat wool. They kept me really warm in temperatures down to -10 degrees, even with moderately thick socks. From my small experience I would definitely reccomend looking for full leather, high boots. However most importantly you need to find what suits you, because I often don't require my boots to sustain long and hard usage in very rough terrain. I usually use them on flat ground, or easier type of mountain, barely icy roads/routes.
Gore-Tex is Gods reward for soldiers. Anyone who doesn't rate Gore-Tex hasn't experienced wet and muddy conditions for days or weeks on end. Before the days of Gore-Tex issued kit, I had a pair of Adidas Gore-Tex walking boots which I blacked up with boot polish and wore on exercises and ops in Northern Ireland. They, were, a, GODSEND! If you wear a Gore-Tex jacket and trousers, you may well need an extra layer underneath to work as a 'shield' against moisture because as it works to get rid of it it can feel damp against the skin. Lastly, Gore-Tex material itself doesn't keep the cold out. You need a layer system below it or an insulated Gore-Tex jacket.
Are they steel tipped?
Afraid not.
Good video! How are the souls? Are they thick/stiff enough so you dont feel the ground/rocks poking your feet?
Hey ShotOver, yea, I have had no problems and have hiked through streams and up and down rocky paths with no feeling of ground rocks poking through at all. Thanks for looking and hope that helps.
Souls ? LOL You better buy a dictionary first, then you can buy some boots.
WHere did you buy it?
I am considering these for backpacking, What you think will it hold with some 20 kg backpack on my back?
How they hold abusing? You still got these?
Some advice?
Thanx mate
Cheers
Zox - not only do I still have these - but they are STILL my fave footwear. I've carried heavy packs and had no issues. Hope that helps - and thanks for watching! Let me know how you get on ...
Hello mate, I have shin splints...Do you think the Mid or Hi would be better? Thanks.
Jack, I feel for you mate, I've been there. I suppose to some extent it will depend on the location of the splints in the shin as even the highs don't go up that high, so won't necessarily protect from external bumps. In terms of shock absorbable, they should both be similar as they both have a similar foot box and sole construction. I find them beautifully comfortable from day one and there's plenty of give in there if you want to upgrade the insole to something even more shock absorbent. Let me know what you decide and thanks for taking the time to watch.
Thanks Chinski for taking the time to reply. I have the older Lowa British Army supplied now and they are mid but my Altberg Sneekers are Hi. I'll let you know how I get on :-)
Hi mate. Can you tell me what size width you are?? I'm a 4E 8-9 in length and rather buy once if possible. Thanks!
Oli - I have very wide feet too and the nice thing about these boots is that they fit like a glove on my wide feet but the lace mechanism is such that they would also draw together much tighter for somebody with narrower feet - which is great. I'm a UK 8 and own these in a UK 8 - and they fit perfect for the length. They are without doubt the most comfy boot I have owned and are very quick to put on and off.
these boots can be used on snow?
Oh yes. They’re not fleece lined, so you may need to size up and wear extra socks for the cold.
You need a bigger watch, one that will really get hung up on SHIT,,,,,,,
Love mine to death !
are these waterproof?
Oh yes they certainly are Ryan. Make sure you get the GTX version though (GTX = Gore-Tex membrane). I regularly walk through shallow streams wearing them while those with me struggle to find rocks to walk across.
Soles.
See my reply to your question above :-)
nice time peace sir, what brand is it?
Hey Welinton - thanks for noticing and for asking! Its on view better here ua-cam.com/video/PzYFATR87a4/v-deo.html :-)
Take care now and thanks for watching.

Seems like a nice boot. I would love to try them out, if it wasnt for the hideous rubber wave lugs on the side!
Jack - I know what you mean and I felt the same. However, in real life, they actually aren't noticeable and nobody I know has commented - and believe me, some of my friends certainly would comment if the thought there was a need ;-D
