I always go to the hermit first in chapter two to get the rare shotgun when starting the story again. 😅
I get the gold from the train and the statues, too. Then head to the St Denis fence and to the gunsmith.

That place where you get the Dutch's pipe ..I save that bear encounter for the weapon master challenge kill a grizzly bear with throwing knife ..also gives you perfect pelt
