Holy shit. Excellent story. Really nails that Lovecraftian feeling while still feeling completely fresh and unique, and the ending was really solid. Kudos to the author, and the narration was great!

what is wrong with this place
I'm sorry, i know this is just a fan fic basically, and i really enjoy the fact that we're exploring legends and myths of different cultures. It's a seriously untapped well of entertainment. But something really rubs me wrong with the way this narrative portrays all the male characters. Could you not have created ONE male character with redeeming qualities? I mean the antagonist and protagonist were already a woman, why make all the males utter pieces of ish. I fuggin hate woke writing.
Author here, I am actually quite flabberghasted that that is what you took from the story. Though I am not gonna be a prick and tell you what you have to think about it. If you are intereted, what I intended (and apparently failed to do) was to show that indeed, almost all man are irredeemable, but so are all the women. That is why all of them die in the end. Also, I tried (and again, apparently failed) to have Hyeon and Eun be men with exatly that, redeeming qualities. The point I was trying to make with their absence throughaout most of the story was that men who are hard-working and dutiful and caring for their families are needed and if not everything goes to sh*t. Also, there was only one woman that had what I consider a redeeming character, namely Jia (who died and was not able to stop anything with her presence because of that). Perhaps our views on woke writing differ, but for me woke writing is something where characters do not have flaws and I tried to give all the characters exactly those. As this is horror, they are so big that they get f**d because of that. My philosophy with the Ebrugh Reports is always that people's flaws start to confront them in horrific ways and grow exponentially to show how bad humanity can get if not careful. So in a sense, at least I managed to make the males have apparent flaws and you felt for them what I intended to. perhaps the womens flaws were not obvious enough? As women tend to be more backstabby on average and men more outrightly violent, those qualities might be more apparent. The protagonist, for example, became a horrible woman to her daughter deue to her overprotectiveness and lost her in the end. The idea of the waters is that they increase the disdain and hate in the people that is already there and makes it grow rampant. I did not choose a communist town for no reason, as most of the things I wrote were basically what really happened, I just increased it in some scenes (obviously more towards the end). But I actually see this as criticism (and had that in mind) of ideology in general and I consider woke ideology to be exaclty that. For example, the ritual could be seen as either r**cism or also cancel culture. But again, this does not mean that you have to see that in the story, it is just what I tried to convey and apparently failed). All the best!

In all fairness I'm still giving it a listen and haven't finished yet, as I have enjoyed the rest of the series. So sorry I read into your story incorrectly, and thanks for responding. ✌️
@@ahabsbane No problem, I can totally get your frustration, I have it myself a lot. =( All Ebrugh Reports between 10 and 19 are set in the UdSSR and deal with terrors of marxism but also more generally authoritarianism. I think that is something of importance to deal with nowadays so it is my way of figuring out where things can really go wrong with ideologies, I guess. =D All the best! =)
@@storieswithstyle ok I've finished it, as suspected I loved this story as well, especially the ending, seems pertinent to or conversation. Please don't get me wrong, I love a strong female character, like Samus from Metroid, or Ripley from Alien. I just hate the Mary Sue characters that seem to be crowbarred into most media these days. The only reason they're superior to the men in their world is that all the men are weak or cowardly or downright evil, like in for instance the latest star Trek. Anyway, thanks again for interacting with me, I knew I had you wrong reading the first few lines of your response. I'll leave my post up for posterity, and I'm looking forward to more of your talent being narrated by our friend Vii!
@@ahabsbane Glad you liked it in the end. =) I hate Mary Sues as well. I try my best to develop characters with strong and weak traits, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. =D I have been writing this series for 13 years now and I started with some pretty bad characters I feel, but I think I improved a bit over the years. I rarely think up the sex of my characters first, this story is probably the only exception as it is based on something real I have seen between a mother and her daughter (I based the main character and the daughter on that). I also wanted to delve into where parenting can go wrong as my children have been born whilst I wrote this one, so that also kinda warranted the characters being written with that aspect in mind. =) Normally I see my characters more like "people that have a darkness that can get out of hand and lead to horror". =)
