If Churchill was such a historian then he would’ve been aware by 1945, that he’d led the British Empire into a Pyrrhic victory from which it never recovered, how on earth can this man be deified.? His willingness to use force on the population of Great Britain ( between the wars) and his history of thrillseeking and reckless military actions should always be viewed alongside his public image. Let’s not be lured into viewing this man through the lens of public opinion in 1965. A lot more information has become available as to his activities in the 1930’s, all of which paints a very sordid and troubling picture. A Tapestry of deeds anyone should be ashamed of. The mathematics of Churchill’s income during the “ wilderness years” is in itself an enigma for most. His book sales and other writing and speaking endeavours didn’t even start to cover the cost of maintaining Chartwell, his country home. In actuality it’s glaringly obvious he had an undisclosed income. Investigation unearths two sources, one being a group known as “ the focus “ and the other an agency of the Czechoslovakian Government. This income kept him afloat from 1935 until the war. Good motivation for his cries from the “ wilderness “ if ever. What role was he bought for? For he was indeed bought and paid for by two foreign powers. Good motivation for his speeches regarding the early fiscal success of Nazi Germany. He was definitely an Alcoholic, had serious Depression and he was prone to outbursts verging upon violence. No matter how much he knew about history, did he actually understand history.? Remember his mother was an American. Maybe not so strange that America inherited the British Empire directly from the hands of Churchill.. him having first assisted it’s parents suicide.
A well researched and delivered lecture, really enjoyed it.
Churchill's sense of history was unique...
He created moulded and defined history in a way that's modern and bold!
Wonderful!
Superb.
Cool
