I have had the Royal Blue plugs on my skates for months now and I love them. They are very low profile and take more skill to not eat it with every trick but they are beautiful!
I met a guy on reddit that makes cool 3D print jam plugs that have stopping power. I did get some jammers after I wore those down and they are slick but it was so great to find metric for my roll lines. Like you said, it's for looks and to fill in the hole. I may invest in some NTS roll lines in the future.
Putting "Standard" plugs in a "Metric" socket is not a problem and works great! I have Roll-Line and have done this for years. Because Jam Plugs have plastic threads that are a tiny bit larger than Roll-Line Metric they just go on tight (at first), you are not going to hurt the aluminum on you plates this way. Also because Standard" plugs are bigger you can pick up a 10 buck die off of eBay and tap it metric if you want! But you really don't need it. Because the jam plugs are always plastic, the aluminum just acts as a die, it's not an issue. Almost no one knows about this, but try it, it works great, not an issue at all.
As a machinist, this is completely adequate and true on all points. Shouldn’t have a problem with them backing out either 😉 The only potential problem I could see, would be if you wore down your plugs too low to have anything to grab ahold of to remove it. Nothing a drill couldn’t handle but could be a potential nuisance.
I've ordered multiple multiple pairs of these and sell them everywhere this guy really knows his s*** these things are absolutely beautiful I highly recommend them to anyone
I've started ice skating with hockey skates, and started roller skating too... one thing I notice, is that toe stops could be a "bad habit" for crossover skaters, since hockey skates don't have toe stops... So I'm going full jam plugs and see how that works out to not use toe stops anymore... Next time in ATX, check out Playland Skate's adult night...
I used to own roller derby skates that had almost no impedence from toe stops. The plate was small. I used to dance like crazy on those quads! I wish they manufactured roller skates withOUT any toestops!!!
VNLA Freestyle Avanti Deluxe Jam Skate, are the skates that I have, around where my plug is, There is a place where you can tighten it up I’m guessing that’s what it is, am I thinking that’s right???
Thank you sharing this guys innovation. It's probably going to make a lot of skaters happy. What was your girlfriend's review on them, seeing as she has a different type of skates than you?
@@DeezSkates Haha I can totally relate. I only started skating 7 months ago. I like learning as much as I can, so when I'm ready to advance I'll have a heads up. (Skate gear can get $$ ya know 😉) Thank you, David😁
I think I need jamplugs for skating at the rink. My boots' toes slide on the wooden surface and I feel the friction. The slider one looks really fat though. I essentially want something that's just barely long enough such that my boots' toes don't drag. How tall is the knob part of the jam plug on the slider? How about the normal colored ones? Did you get the short one? Can you ascertain a difference between the normal colored one and the slider? The sliders are $25, the coloreds are $16, _delrins_ (whatever that means) are $20, swirls are $19. I have no idea what the performance differences are.
Robert Burt has many many different styles indoor outdoor contact him on the website everything that you find including the plates are absolutely amazing
Question: The rink is full (like olden times), your cruising backwards, all the gaps close up, you need to hit a double-toe-stop stop before it hits the fan. What do you do w/o any kind of stopper? I can stop lots of ways backwards w/o toe stops, but not on a dime, and not in an "emergency" situation. So I use the tiny stops I took off my old Darts and I screw them all the way up to the top. It's not ideal, but I'm trying to find the best of both worlds.
Practice your backward plow stops. Toe stops have their place, but a complete reliance on them highlights a deficiency. You should always be working toward a strong stop on your edges from any position.
@@DeezSkates Thanks DS. I work on my toestopless backwards stops pretty much every time I skate (2 or 3 times a week). But I still don't feel like I can pull off a "no think" hard stop. Maybe it's time to just take 'em off and sink or swim 😀.
I swapped a few weeks back. I asked around the rink and a good portion of the people just state in an emergency they are flipping around to face front. Most times this means they can just avoid the situation, but it also puts them in the more practiced stop direction. Other than that. Backwards plow.
@Deez Skates Toe stops are gone, plugs are in. Let the chips fall where they may :). Backwards hockey is getting better (in both directions). Looking forward to getting back into the rink to see how it works out. Now if I can just find a vaccine shot...
I have a question, I'm not sure what it's called but when you get up on your left foot, front right wheel and your right foot, front right wheel. When I try to do it it's almost like my front right wheel stops. Could it be that my wheel isn't able to handel the weight of my body and I need stronger ones?
The light up plugs did not exist at the time this video was made, but the maker sent me two sets of light ups after they released and they’re really cool. Same materials as the ones in this vid.
It depends on which plates they have. If you have a standard adjustable stopper with the thick bolt it will be 5/8, but Robert will know for sure if you message him through the site and tell him exactly what setup your are skating.
Find the model of the plate itself then look that up and you should get toe stop measurement from the description of that plate. 5/8 is the most common if you want to guess..
I think it comes down to the retailers. They’re rubber, and if they aren’t stored well for long periods of time they become brittle. In my experience, any torquing causes them to rip, but I can’t say how long the shop had them or how they were stored before they were sold to me. Bought from a couple different places and had the same experience.
AWESOME DUDE ! I was buying the Sure Grip dance plugs with the METAL stem, but no one seems to sell them any more. The rest of these toe stops burn out to fast. I will try these !!!!!! Just Ordered ! (JB skater) 👍

Grew up skating with Burt
I’m going to have to try these
Which other ones are made for sliding
Jam plugs are meant to protect the wooden floor from your [metal] plate. You say the plugs are hard; do the scratch/dent wood/finish?
No scratches or damage to the floor.
No they do not they continually slide

Bont has some plate options with no toe stops :)

Hi, i have some carrera speed skates... what size plug should i get?
Would they be suitable outdoors on concrete?
Diane Carlson
Probably best to contact the site owner for that question. I have only tested them indoors.

5/8

5/16! It's likely you have bolt-on toe stops with impalas. 5/8 is adjustable toe stops (bigger hole)
Nice!
really?!? YOUR IRIS PLUGS DONT LAST? Mines last me forever. they're so dense. this is good info I'm gonna have to try some of these too.

Ordered a pair and they literally both snapped on inserting them into skates cheap material not worth 20$
I hope you give me one roller blade and I hope you notice me 🙏 I'm from Philippines
