This whole video reminds me of my dad's way of doing things. He was a country boy from Southern Ga, transplanted there from Alabama by my grandfather in the 30's. Another awesome how to Jeff - thanks for all you take time to record for us. We appreciate it all.
Good vid. Thanks for talkin thru the steps and reasons why... puts things in good context. Glad too yer keepin those old tractors rollin.. love to see old tools keep workin...

Us country boys whom are locker room bandits that are old school taught of old ways use what we got. Cheap as we can go. My brother and I started raising cattle back in 1990. We currently have a 1965 4000 Ford, 68 5000 Ford and 1966 1020 John Deere that we use. Yep on we have rebuilt both Fords and in process of the John Deere. But we own them.
Man I am seriously considering finding a job in Alabama and moving there. The environment look so much like southern Germany, and there is so much cool stuff to do there. Noodling, hunting, hog trapping, mud wrestling, etc!
@@jusnuts1443 I was never in the military. I'm half American and half German. I live here in Germany becuase of work, but living here has become less and less appealing to me.
Wheres the tractor repair video supporting you all I can while I’m laid off your channel or Hannah’s plays all day enjoy all your content I truly appreciate y’all
Nice. We gave up on this after 3 years and no rain ever on the plot. Hope you get some rain. That place has got to be a meat factory when it gets growing. You're lucky to have a place like that to hunt. Bowhunters paradise- riflemans heaven!!!!
Yep sandy soil, I hunt NW Florida and took soil samples to the co-op of my plots. When I went back to get the results, the guy ask me was I growing a garden on this? I said no, why? He said well I was going to give you a food stamp application...
Jeff, you might win a NASCAR race with that Kubota... as fast as it is. LOL I see you put that girl to work hauling fertilizer bags for ya while you're sewin'. That's good for her. Keep us up to speed on how it is during the growing process. Interesting bonus for your deer preparations.
Looking good man my theory is drive till you can't my plots got beat up by Mother Nature this year a couple weeks ago I put down winter wheat cuz I couldn't find any Rye man that stuff took off and the dear loving it
I knew what you was saying but then again I am born and raised in northeastern ky . I miss southern states seed and many other things about living in the country. Goodluck on your food plot brother. You are planting late for our area but your further south then I am up here in flat country Illinois where the BIG BUCKS roam..
i remember driving my gpaws tractor 1 time and accidentally disturbing a bumble bee nest. As they were chasing and stinging me i realized i could actually run faster than i could drive the tractor... so i jumped off, with it still n gear and proceeded to out run the tractor and the bees as my dad and grandpa laughed their butts off. The good ole days before i moved to the city 😂
Man,I have a 2004 3830 4wd hydro. 500 hrs .I gave 16k for it ten years ago. It is awesome, with a qd loader. Life is too short , and a good tractor is essential to our lifestyle. Big Orange is great equipment.
Who knew Jeff was a farmer???!!!?!?!!!! Haha farmer Jeff nice food plot Jeff! You’re the man! You can out work any young men nowadays!!! Us older men know how to work and get Er done!!!
Thankfully Hurricane Delta is going to miss L.A. (Lower Alabama). Hopefully you get just enough rain to wake that seed and fertilizer up and get things growing!! :-)

Love that old Kubota. L175 maybe?? ( might be bigger but it's hard for me to see) Heat or low oil is about the only thing that'll kill that engine. Heat is real bad for them. Hope ya get her cooled off soon. Would love to see a video of you going through it to get her right. That machine is as close as they come to being bullet proof. You'll be able to use it till ya don't want to run a tractor anymore, then pass it down to Hannah and it'll be there for her as long as she wants to run a tractor.
I did the same with my equipment till one day my wife said shut up complaining and GO BUY YOU A NEW TRACTOR! So with her blessing I did. Bought a low hour 5075E Deere with MFWD and glad I did. Now when I need it it I don't have to work on it before I can use it and the payments weren't that bad. Just a few hours overtime covers it. It is big enough to do the job but not too big to easily haul around. Your ground worked up well. You are like me in that respect. I am in middle Ga. and we have sandy soils too. I dare say more plots are planted the way you did yours than not. Let us know how it turns out and oh yea Hi Hannah........
Nice video, usually the rule is you want to plant a seed no deeper than it is tall so you are spot on in not wanting them deep. You got a dead Loblolly pine on the rt side on that plot. Beetles, lightening ??
Hey Jeff, thanks for the vlog. Not sure if you have looked into it (probably have) but have you considered a Biochar solution (charcoal) for the feed plot? The branches and smaller limbs that you cut off from the main trees you cut down can be used for Biochar and therefore no waste. Once processed the carbon material will then capture the nutrients in the ‘soil’. Not sure how this works in a sandy environment but there are a lot of YT vids on Biochar. It’s use dates back many thousand’s of year’s as a way of capturing nutrients and feeding the soil. Look up ‘Tera Preta’ for some details from the Amazon rain forest Hope all of that makes sense.
Bush Hogging gets the deer stirred up to, I know I'm not telling you anything you don't know. I've seen after an area is logged the deer come in looking for food. I sure understand not wanting another payment as per a tractor. Nice to have but if you don't use it or have to have it every day just not feasible !

Maybe you could add some green sand to add long term potassium and silica plus it will help with the water holding ability of the soil.
Great vid bro !
Jeff try to find a teder for that grass and it will burn real good.
Your tractor: Makes funny noises, runs hot, leaks, front end all screwed up...sounds like me when I get up in the mornings :)

Chemical Fertilizer fed plants for your food is a bummer. Check out natural way with living soil.Best way for everything...
💜
Do you ever spray your plots with a herbicide as part of the prep? I’ve always done that with my plots but lately considering not doing it.
If you ever need extra fire, we’ve got plenty here in California 👍
wooooooo!

Why did you leave that seedling in the almost middle?...Just curious.
How’s the arm? Seems to be about fine now?
