In my experience in games, Joey is either a roflstomp or the most difficult early on because he has tons of RNG coin flip/dice roll cards that can troll you. It's really bad in the earlier games because they often start you with a really mediocre deck and work your way up buying new packs. The pack buying and building is one of the most satisfying elements, it just sucks ass until you get a better foundation. Rambling aside, a Joey deck isn't that bad if luck is on your side
Holy, shit... they actually gave Mai modern harpies? well, not a competitive (or rather, rogue) build, and no XYZ monsters either... but seriously? a deck that'd be bad even in Caveman Yugioh vs a Zexal Era deck? And why the hell does Yugi have Soul Charge? lmao
Me: Wait... how are there only 4 Blue-Eyes cards, yet multiple support spells, a fusion, synchros and a ritual monster to bring it out and ritual monsters that are basically improved forms of it? Seto: Um... Me: I'm waiting... Seto: ...screw the rules, I- Me: Sorry, Wrong Answer! (roasts him with Stardust Dragon).
For some reason the funniest part about this game is the transition between Yugi and Yami Yugi. It would be weird to include the transformation thing but the fact it’s so unceremonious is fucking hilarious to me
Instead of constantly pressing no you can hold down the "back" button (i play console so its the B button) and it wont pop up the message. Im so glad youre playing this i play this on the daily its amazing.
I like watching combos almost as much as I like playing them lol, so the pace of current yugioh (especially with my Traptrix deck) is perfect for me. Watching other people's combos popping off is visually stimulating to me cause I like watching the moving parts in their well-oiled machine of a deck. I don't really get what people hate about deck consistency. :/
actually, the lawsuit had nothing to do with copyright. Magic the gathering apparently tried multiple times outside of court to get Konami to stop using the term "Magic" because they thought it would confuse people. Konami apparently refused each time until the lawsuit (which was never brought to court) ended up changing their mind. Personally I think it was for the best that Konami separated themselves more from Wizards of the coast and chose a more original (in terms of card games) name.
"the cards are expensive and i got no one to play with" this hit me so hard, because thats the same reason i got Legacy of the Duelist, also do you think you'd like hold, subsciber tournaments or something in the game? im asking because the online scene for the game is... well dead sadly.
What the person above said YGOPRO is free, lets you build decks fast and free, and had a pretty large online fanbase last I played it (granted that was half a year ago, but still).
yugi:oh no grandpa soul been taken and i must duel to get his soul back. Yugi:hold up let me open up these pack of cards to get some powerful cards with out needing to buy them
This brings back memories... I always said if weevil threw my exodia cards in the water at that point he'd end up in the ocean with and he wouldn't be floating... Unlike the cards
Not sure if you already know of this Pika. Since i had been playing the game myself i had to find out how to disable the pop ups. Go into the options menu. Then go to the obvious option. And change from beginner to pro. That will stop them and allow you to choose when you want to activate the card effects
I've missed a couple of prompts right when I needed it because of that option due to a combination of the game's poor timing and my own bad reflexes. Still better than asking me if I want to activate Reinforcements every goddamn phase.
Didn't it have spells in because Yugi sat him down and made him sort through his deck so he would have a chance to save his sister? I remember a scene like that but not sure when.
I've been marathoning some of your pokemon series, which I've really enjoyed. I gotta say, watching you play this yugioh game brings back old memories of me playing Eternal Duelist Soul for GBA. I look forward to watching you play more of this!
I know that this is 2 years ago, but my main deck is a Gear deck and used it from the begging after I built it. The first duel I lost using that deck was against Vector in Zexel. I spent three days spending 68 hours getting cards from the GX series

49:25 he rocks... maybe it's somewhat related to magna warrior and those cards, he also seem to occasionally have jacks knight or odd dark magician decks
I got the game for pure nostalgia value, and it was a lot of fun. Now I m' just sunk into all the rules completely alien to me. Glad to see the silliness continued after the "classic" arcs !
Awesome. This will be really fun, and a great revisit to the game before the Link Summoning. As a little advice in 12:15, Sangan effect activates whenever its send to the GY, so, another option was to summon Gaia The Fierce Knight using Sangan as a tribute and that way you don't lose your life points 29:57 About the GBA games, you should try Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament 2006, it's like duel academy but more focused on the duels, without an story, but also more cards 1:14:15 That precious moment when the heart of the cards actually responds
if youre playing with mouse and keyboard, you can hold down RMB to cancel out that pop up asking if you want to activate or chain and just release it when you wanna use the card
also with Spell Binding Circle, the monster it was attached to was tributed not destroyed, tributing doesnt destroy the monster, just like how sending and destroying are different things
D MAS My problem with YGOTAS was complete lack of caring for plot. They ignore pretty much all the duels. DBZA on the other hand, is more akin to the series it was based on.
That I'll agree on. I know it's just card games but damn, I actually played _Yu-Gi-Oh!_ back in the day and loved it. DBZA had a lot more focus on the battles, whereas in TAS they fell to the wayside probably a little too often.
I played Yu-Gi-Oh for years in middle/high school. Never thought of using Sangan like that, though. Of course, I never had Exodia, but it's still a useful card.
In Season 1 of the anime, Flame Swordsman is treated as a Level 5 Normal Monster and is Summoned as such though in the English Anime the altered card design is colored Fusion violet. In the Japanese version it has a Normal yellow colored background. but its card lore in the first Season still stated that it was a Fusion Monster and listed its Material.
Some one probably said this but I'll say it again anyway. A number of cards like Aligator Swordm, Wolf and Kageningen were released in a Joey themed Yugioh set of cards. Since they were used by Joey, they were given flavor text in his English style of speech.
I dunno if u still care, already googled or got told, buuut the reason for some of the non-effect monsters have brooklyn rage inspired text is because in Legendary Collection - Joeys World they also included some of his old monsters with said text for the fun of it..well at least for the english cards anyways
The thing with Spellbind, the monster needs to be destroyed. I think if it gets tributed or sents back to the hand, it gets stuck in the field. This happens in other yu gi oh games as well. It's probably intentional at this point. There are cards that have effects when you or the opponent have face-up traps on the field.
About the magic/spell card thing, from what I remember the US/Canada cards said magic and the AU/NZ cards said Spell, and different places sold different editions. Also the starter decks had different cards. The Yugi Deck for instance, one edition had 2 dark magicians, and the other had 1.
Hey, pikasprey, they actually changed his name from black magician to dark magician and the name black magic attack to dark magic attack to further it away from religious ties, like black magic, if you look at alot of cards they actually have reprints from the japanese version to the English removing similar instances of religious controversies
doctorsmoothlove I preferred the slowness. It's way too fast to be any fun anymore. With my current deck, I can summon multiple Utopia monsters in one turn, wipe a board, and possibly end it. It's kind of boring.
The only reason you'd ever want to go second is to get an extra card draw. This is useful for more modern Exodia decks or a Final Countdown deck where that one card could mean potentially drawing into your Exodia pieces or Final Countdown. Also since I am curious, would you personally be interested in dueling with fans? Just watching this makes me want to play Yugioh again, and Dueling nexus lets you create any deck you want with the most recent ban lists and meta cards. Maybe you could make it a small side series.
1:55 Not really, YGOTAS's dialogue is very close to the english dub early on, so they just got that from the dub. I've made a comparison video 2 years ago in a currently abandoned account, it's called "YGOTAS Dialogue - 4KIDS Dialogue (Comparison) YGOTAS Ep.01" you can find it and watch it if you want to see what I mean, but basically it's just that LK mostly just messed with the 4KIDS dialogue in the early days.
Spellbinding circle VERY frequently gets stuck on the field due to the phrasing. If the card that you target with it gets tributed, returned to the hand, removed from play, or any other method of removing the target from the field without destroying it Spellbinding Circle gets stuck on your field till it gets destroyed by card effect.
yeah man, I had the same issue with Magic vs spell cards, for awhile the people I used to duel with were pulling the same thing for awhile, so I feel your pain there
I think ALL of the other games have some sort of animation when you win with Exodia. Even the very first game for the original gameboy had a special screen. If you'd like to take a look, here they are: ua-cam.com/video/b2Y-O39bW0U/v-deo.html
Heyyyyy man! If your down for suggestions, a classic from before gx, gamewise, you should do a Duelist of the Rose's lp, and make it through both sets.
I finished this game 3 times. Once normal playthrough, once reversal duels, both with the Story Decks, and then once more forward with a custom Deck (GalaxyEyes Proton Dragon), and my God! is any sort of effect Deck completely overpowered against the early 'big attack=win' story decks.
"You have to play with joey's deck" must be the most torture ever performed through a game.
Two words my friend, Six Smeargle.
_immediately surrenders_
He put that on himself though. But you are right. Jabadamazo was such a joke.. even for a smeargle.
Luka Ilic wether self inflicted or not, torture is torture.

And 7 alternate artworks for it!

For some reason the funniest part about this game is the transition between Yugi and Yami Yugi. It would be weird to include the transformation thing but the fact it’s so unceremonious is fucking hilarious to me
Joey's deck is built off the power of anime, it's useless excluding thousand dragon
In the anime after a few of the duels yugi tells Joey he needs more spell and trap cards so that could be where those came from
Instead of constantly pressing no you can hold down the "back" button (i play console so its the B button) and it wont pop up the message. Im so glad youre playing this i play this on the daily its amazing.
Yessss!! Pikasprey and Yugioh! Been waiting for this combo!
Why? Never heard of the Brotherhood of NOD? Command and Conquer games?
Yeah, unfortunately i couldn't find a good picture at the time. I really love this logo.
Tim van der Lee can't you open paint, edit the picture, save it, and use that edited picture as the icon?
Go, Dark Magician! Ruined bitrate attack!
Hahah, joke aside, it's neat to see some Yu-Gi-Oh! here.
Ok that joke kinda killed me lmfao
I much prefer the slow, simple pace of OG yugioh, GX probably had the best pacing in my opinion.
OG-5DS had great pacing the newer ones just screw with the rules and go too quickly
Actually Pikasprey, iirc Magic: The Gathering filed a lawsuit against Konami, so they changed Magic to Spell.
exactly
TheOtakuWolf - Overwatch wow
Hollow Tim apparently, to them they do.
Sadly it was the reason, there wer esome people that got Magic (MTG) cards confused with Yugioh magic cards.
actually, the lawsuit had nothing to do with copyright. Magic the gathering apparently tried multiple times outside of court to get Konami to stop using the term "Magic" because they thought it would confuse people. Konami apparently refused each time until the lawsuit (which was never brought to court) ended up changing their mind. watching you read those cards in Joey's Brooklyn accent was so funny lololol
"the cards are expensive and i got no one to play with" this hit me so hard, because thats the same reason i got Legacy of the Duelist, also do you think you'd like hold, subsciber tournaments or something in the game? im asking because the online scene for the game is... well dead sadly.
Dargonaxable Because everyone uses YGOPRO since it's free and actually up to date
What the person above said
YGOPRO is free, lets you build decks fast and free, and had a pretty large online fanbase last I played it (granted that was half a year ago, but still).
You on ps4 ima be getting it soon add me cart654superior
Elite World Wrestling jovannimolinayt
I also like the GBA and NDS ones.
1:55 Awesome super rare choclately fudge coated super card.
Kaiba takes no prisoners, "You senile old fool" Kaibacorp should also run hospitals to treat Setos burn victims.
yugi:oh no grandpa soul been taken and i must duel to get his soul back.
Yugi:hold up let me open up these pack of cards to get some powerful cards with out needing to buy them
This brings back memories... I always said if weevil threw my exodia cards in the water at that point he'd end up in the ocean with and he wouldn't be floating... Unlike the cards
"Yugi inserted the tape into the VCR".
Me: Remember those kids?
Are we pack opening channel yet?
Thousand Dragon, Shield & Sword, & Red-Eyes Black Dragon: The only cards that made Joey decent in the Duelist Kingdom arc
I hate this game and love it at the same time! watch me get pounded on turn 2! in campaign ua-cam.com/video/4vKrh4ZKpeQ/v-deo.html
I haven't played Yu-gi-oh in years...
The last time I played it, I was in elementary school back in early 2000's!
I feel so old.
The monster has been sacrificed, it hasn't been destroyed. That's why your Spellbinding Circle is still on the field. ;)
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the fact that INF-N8 is wearing a monocle.
Lol, just realize his name is spelled as "INF-178"... clever girl...
Actually, magic cards were changed to spell cards because of magic the gathering, there was some sort of legal issue there that I don’t quite recall
Confusion clause, I think it's called.
Not sure if you already know of this Pika. Since i had been playing the game myself i had to find out how to disable the pop ups. Go into the options menu. Then go to the obvious option. And change from beginner to pro. That will stop them and allow you to choose when you want to activate the card effects
There is someway to disable the attack cut scenes?
Douglas Costa Teixeira I dont think so.
Shit, I stopped playing the game in the Zexal Campaign because I could not stand watching all that cutscenes anymore
That bad? I am still in the original series. I am playing it slow. And enjoying a lot. Now ill be a lot more vary as i go on. Thanks for the heads up.
I've missed a couple of prompts right when I needed it because of that option due to a combination of the game's poor timing and my own bad reflexes. Still better than asking me if I want to activate Reinforcements every goddamn phase.
Yugi has a rock deck because "Attack the Moon!!," The staple of this duel, Only works for rock monsters.
4:32 and had a sudden 5'' growth spurt.
Didn't it have spells in because Yugi sat him down and made him sort through his deck so he would have a chance to save his sister? I remember a scene like that but not sure when.
That Sangan to get the last Exodia piece in the first duel was such a galaxy brain play.
I've been marathoning some of your pokemon series, which I've really enjoyed. I gotta say, watching you play this yugioh game brings back old memories of me playing Eternal Duelist Soul for GBA. I look forward to watching you play more of this!
34:10 at least its better than tea's starting deck in duel links, she has 20 monsters, no spells or traps, and her only good card dark magic girl
11:10 this menu actually shows you the monsters that are the closest to the top of the deck from left to right, so summon the exodus card on the right
I know that this is 2 years ago, but my main deck is a Gear deck and used it from the begging after I built it. The first duel I lost using that deck was against Vector in Zexel. I spent three days spending 68 hours getting cards from the GX series
Out of all the villans from the duel monsters area, Bakura is my definitive favorite: the campy british accent and remorseless evil just works for me.
I laughed way too hard when you said "Always scissors", because thats the same strategy I stick with
Anyone remember when Blue Eyes was one of the most powerful card? I do. Those were good times...

There is also the Joey refrence with the card texts having Brooklyn writing style and his signature Nyaaah!
I remember when I played this game as a kid it was customary that during the game each player stole about 50% of their opponents deck.
glad to see some old school yu gi oh on the channel
plz keep turning out the quality content
thank you pikasprey.
Oh yeah, this is the game where you use bizarre decks to fight against other, even more bizarre decks.
Duel Academy was one of my favorite games growing up, agree on how great it was
That game was great! Figuring out how to unlock all the events was a lot of fun.

I can't stop thinking of Abridged while watching this. Admittedly it's pretty hard to go back to the original because of it.
D MAS same with DBZ games
DBZ: Abridged wasn't as funny to me. I had some laughs, notably with Nappa, who is easily the best thing about that series, but I prefer LK over TFS.
D MAS My problem with YGOTAS was complete lack of caring for plot. They ignore pretty much all the duels. DBZA on the other hand, is more akin to the series it was based on.

I just wanted to thank you Pikasprey for providing me with quality entertainment while I recover from my torn ACL!
hope it healed well
Why does kaiba rip the blue eyes instead of using the card doesn't really make any sense to me
In the sub, he says it's because there are only 3 copies of a card allowed in a deck, so it was worthless to him.
36:48 Joey probably had some issues with time wizard and accidentally Mai's deck to the future
Thank you for playing this. It’s the reason I bought this on Switch.
I played Yu-Gi-Oh for years in middle/high school. Never thought of using Sangan like that, though. Of course, I never had Exodia, but it's still a useful card.
To seek out a useful card from the deck? How did you use it otherwise?
16:16 Dude, did you say “Tisk tisk tisk”?
In Season 1 of the anime, Flame Swordsman is treated as a Level 5 Normal Monster and is Summoned as such though in the English Anime the altered card design is colored Fusion violet. In the Japanese version it has a Normal yellow colored background. but its card lore in the first Season still stated that it was a Fusion Monster and listed its Material.
I had the same magic/spell card feud; I even had a Spell Dark Hole and a Magic Dark Hole.
Kageningen: literally “Shadow Human”
I love this game as well, still grinding cards to build my fun decks but I still enjoy playing this^^
The thing with Spellbind, the monster needs to be destroyed. I think if it gets tributed or sents back to the hand, it gets stuck in the field. This happens in other yu gi oh games as well. It's probably intentional at this point. There are cards that have effects when you or the opponent have face-up traps on the field.
Thank you! That's what I was thinking too, but I wasn't sure.
Woohoo yugioh!!! It's time to ddddd dddddddd duel!
"wow i can do that and just attack him this tur....." THREATENING ROAR
About the magic/spell card thing, from what I remember the US/Canada cards said magic and the AU/NZ cards said Spell, and different places sold different editions. Also the starter decks had different cards. The Yugi Deck for instance, one edition had 2 dark magicians, and the other had 1.
I thought the reason they changed it to spell cards was because of another certain Wizard of the Coast.
Please play more of this, I love Yu-Gi-Oh!
Hey, pikasprey, they actually changed his name from black magician to dark magician and the name black magic attack to dark magic attack to further it away from religious ties, like black magic, if you look at alot of cards they actually have reprints from the japanese version to the English removing similar instances of religious controversies
I loved this game. I had to build my own deck for the first two series. It was so slow lol
doctorsmoothlove I preferred the slowness. It's way too fast to be any fun anymore. With my current deck, I can summon multiple Utopia monsters in one turn, wipe a board, and possibly end it. It's kind of boring.
I mean to be fair that is your Opinon on the matter.
1:14:08 seems like something out of the anime, except without the constant speaking.
You have sneeze, do you want to activate a trap card?
Cost Down is a card Seto Kaiba used in Battle City, either against Ishizu, Joey, or Yugi during the Finals
1:04:37 Uhhh Rex, read the card, that says 1500 ATK or more. Joey summoned a card with 1300 ATK. Which is LESS than 1500.
don't remember kageningen having a text like that when i was playing it, was looking at that card not long ago
I like to go second so i can counter and attack.
12:35 "Ah! Exodia! It's not possible" xD.
Please, continue this series
1:55 Not really, YGOTAS's dialogue is very close to the english dub early on, so they just got that from the dub. I've made a comparison video 2 years ago in a currently abandoned account, it's called "YGOTAS Dialogue - 4KIDS Dialogue (Comparison) YGOTAS Ep.01" you can find it and watch it if you want to see what I mean, but basically it's just that LK mostly just messed with the 4KIDS dialogue in the early days.
50:21 the monster was tributed instead of being destroyed that’s why
Spellbinding circle VERY frequently gets stuck on the field due to the phrasing. If the card that you target with it gets tributed, returned to the hand, removed from play, or any other method of removing the target from the field without destroying it Spellbinding Circle gets stuck on your field till it gets destroyed by card effect.
awesome! Glad to see you playing Duel Monsters Pikasprey! This should be pretty good.
Actually they changed magic to spell because magic the gathering sued for being called magic cards so they changed it.
Man, i read the manga from "season 0" (as its called by the anime people) to the conclusion of the god cards. This is nostalgia.
It seems they changed the story from the manga a lot.
Holy shit, the dialogue manages to be worse than in the anime, somehow 😂 and that UI too, bruh
I know its been a year, but can you play this on mobile for some reason? Lol sorry for being this late just saw this now on my recommended.
yeah man, I had the same issue with Magic vs spell cards, for awhile the people I used to duel with were pulling the same thing for awhile, so I feel your pain there
This reminds me of a time when my favorite cards getting banned wasn't the only thing that comes to mind involving this series.
I never watched or played YuGiOh, so it's my chance to get some info. Thanks, Pika!

ITS TIME TO D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-DUEL!!!!
Please play more I freaking love this game and youre really entertaining
this year i bought around 5000 yugioh card for a good price! so i have being building decks for some time. bring back good memories
Good luck this game has driven some to madness
Christian is unbreakable
ObtuseDan has it?
To be fair the early Synchro era is the best part of Yugioh
DUUUUUUDE, STOR FORMAT IS THE GOAT
So true*
Pablo Madrid Late Synchro was shit
Have fun with Stardust pass then
At least Stardust pass actually provides some protection, unlike Firewall pass...
No victory animation for Exodia? Eternal Duelist Soul on the GBA had an Exodia Animation!
I think ALL of the other games have some sort of animation when you win with Exodia. Even the very first game for the original gameboy had a special screen.
If you'd like to take a look, here they are:

Heyyyyy man! If your down for suggestions, a classic from before gx, gamewise, you should do a Duelist of the Rose's lp, and make it through both sets.
5:37 is the best part of this video!!!
I wonder if that there’s any new Elemental heroes
I finished this game 3 times. Once normal playthrough, once reversal duels, both with the Story Decks, and then once more forward with a custom Deck (GalaxyEyes Proton Dragon), and my God! is any sort of effect Deck completely overpowered against the early 'big attack=win' story decks.
I've never seen GX but I love the original
tbh, stopping halfway through 5D's is pretty far. I was the same way, and now I'm back playing Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Links and just re-living my childhood.
Bro!! I am in the same boat.Reignited mylove for yugioh.Haha I also stopped watching when 5Ds came out.Subbed!!!
