How to Use Libraries in Photoshop CC
For those of you not currently using Libraries in Photoshop, this is a MUST SEE episode. Learn how to browse stock images, create character styles, sync colors and collaborate with people around the globe - all within Photoshop.
Search Adobe Stock within Photoshop
Adobe Stock offers thousands of images, video, and vector illustrations available at a reasonable licensing rate. You can use the images as part of a design or composite photo, or save them as-is.
Click on the search bar in the ‘Libraries’ panel to search adobe stock. You can filter your results to show photos, illustrations, vectors and videos. Once you find the right stock asset, click on the cloud icon to save a preview in your library. Once the preview is synced to the library, you can drag it into any document.
You will be working with a lower-resolution watermarked file, which is usually good enough to figure out if it is the right stock asset for you. Once you decide on the asset, right-click on the thumbnail in the library and go to ‘license image’. The watermarked preview will be replaced with the full-resolution non-watermarked version instantly!
Sync Colors for Marketing and Branding
There are many cases when you want to work with consistent colors from one document to another. You can now save color swatches to libraries, making them available for later use.
Use the eyedropper tool to select a foreground color, then select the ‘Add Foreground Color’ button at the bottom of the Libraries panel. You can rename the color by double-clicking on the original name.
Saving colors in a Library will help maintain a consistent brand identity when working with new assets.
Create Character Styles
Most brands follow strict guidelines when it comes to colors and typefaces. To maintain consistency, you can add character styles to a Library by clicking on the “Add Character Style’ button on the bottom of the Libraries screen.
To use the character styles, simply type your message using the type tool, then select the type layer and choose the character style from the Libraries panel. It will automatically change the existing type to match the character style defined in the library.
Add Images and Groups to Libraries
You can add layers, images, groups and entire PSD documents to a library by clicking on the layer or groups of layers and pressing the “Add Graphic” icon at the bottom of the Library panel.
To work on the assets, right-click on the icon and go to ‘Edit’. From here you can drag the asset into other documents or edit it in the same window.
Share and Collaborate
Once you have filled your library with all the assets to create an image, you can share it with clients or other artists quickly.
If you are working on a project involving multiple people, click on the ‘Collaborate’ button within the ‘Libraries’ menu. This will take you to Adobe’s website and open a prompt asking you to invite other people to work on the document. Simply add their email address and they will receive a link to work on the files in the library.
To share a library with a client, click on the “Share Link’ button. The recipient will be able to view the library’s assets, but they won’t be able to edit. This is useful for proofing a design.

OMG, the video is 4 years old and it is still so useful. I just found out Phlearn recently and I was doing the 30 days and I'm loving it. I have to say I was surprised when I listened to your voice then saw the hair, it took me a while thinking i know this voice but I don't know him until my brain said: it is him!! You are a great teacher!
The newsletter is the best!
As always, a great tutorial. Look forward to all your videos.

Nice hair man. It came as a shock though because i was watching your old videos all week.
Excellent tutorial. I'll be using this feature quite often and already planning out our corporate library for logo assets. Thanks.
Aaron's hair in all of these videos makes us feel like, like.. we are growing with him! Oh lawd, our boy is growing up!
This is a great tool! Thx for showing!

Hey Phlearn! I have always loved the quality of your videos. What camera(s) do you use?
That is pretty awesome!
I loved the video, I have learned a lot from your videos. His techniques are easy to learn and very useful in my day to day! thank you!
I'm sorry for my English, I'm brazilian!
So you learn to use the libraries since that Adobe CC Class haha
Great tutorial!
love your hair style
is great, is beautiful....wow. Is perfect for me!!!
Love the hair down, You should do all your vids this way.
Is there a limit to the amount of libraries or space you can have for libraries? Thanks.
didnt know tarzan knew photoshop.. xD
nice
muahaha, nice laughter you gave me
Well, he has nothing else to do all day, so he learned Photoshop.
nice one., i tot i was the only one that noticed the hair though. oooooooooopssssss!!!!!!
Aquaman. Aquaman teaches Photoshop.
Hi Aaron! Can you make a tutorial about differences between high pass filter and sharpening filters? :)
Aaron sir love you ummmaaaahhh
Double Thumbs Up
Great video Aaron!!! PS 19.0 gave us the ability to arrange our brushes in folders/subfolders.... I cannot figure out how to do this within the Library. Is this even possible??
Can you record which brushes you used in a particular design?
Good video. Thanks Aaron. I've just started using Libraries. I've noticed something that may be of interest to someone concerned about file sizes. If I drag a 6-7 MB JPEG image from Windows Explorer directly to the Libraries panel it winds up in my Library as a 6-7 MB JPEG image. If I open the same image in Photoshop and then drag it from my Layers panel to the Libraries panel it winds up in my Library as a 60-70 MB Photoshop image.
Sir , i want to learn , how to remove background of macro products like : Rings . plz must reply
Can library elements be used as part of actions? I haven't been able to find an answer to that question.
What if someone wanted to recolor the image? Can that be done in libraries? Thanks so much for this video.
Great tutorial! But I would like to know how to add/use existing files in Libraries. I also noticed that Libraries in Bridge appear to have some differences than your Ps tutorial went through; maybe I just don't know enough yet.
Hello Aaron, how can I change the color of this image ? For example this green for a red.
can someone please help me. When i used the image ( the same tree image) and pace it on my document then make it bigger, as i deselect to chose the eyedropper tool, the image start to render and i takes along time. Why is this?
Great 60 fps videos!
Can a library be shared between Photoshop and Illustrator, InDesign etc?
@phlearn it seems you forgot to put a link to capture patterns in the beginning ? Thanks
Maybe a ridiculous question, but you can not use libraries to save photo edits with layers to collaborate with another computer to edit as well?
Hello. I think it would be interesting to make a video where you show how to make videos for UA-cam, for example, to know what programs you use, what advice to give, and so on. Thanks!
P.S. You are the best! :)
Aaron can you make a curly hair tutorial? What do you put on your hair??
Hey +Aaron, where's the video for Adobe Capture? There wasn't an annotation, nor was I able to find the video in a search. I'm pretty interested.
I am looking for that video, as well.
Could you please make a video on printing photographs?
This is cool, but every time I open adobe it asks to save new library even if I already saved it. Does it recognise if it has already been saved?
You look like a pirate! coooool
thank you sir. u saved my ass today
Aaron has a new hair length every episode!
He added the extra hair in Photoshop 2015.5
Where is the link to the Adobe Capture video, please?
You should be able when sharing the link of the graphic to add a watermark, simple screen capture and they have your art work.
Could you please make a video how to make a realistic reflecting water surface in Photoshop?
I can see you guys using this for future episodes and pro tutorials :)
nothing to do with this awesome video/tut but....i need help. Im designing an invite and i need a mermaid background, how in the world do i create fish scales? thanx
Hi Aaron... at minute marker 2:45, you mention an episode that has been released about Adobe Capture. You instruct us to click on the annotation that comes up to go to that other episode, but it is not there. I have also searched your channel for the episode and cannot locate it there, either. Can you please provide a link to that episode? Thanks!
Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out.
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/3UwSRkKMcw0/v-deo.html
Thanks... watching it now!

Have a nice day anyway

No. information can not be created from thin air but only artificially generated by computer algorithm
Do a Brandon Wolfe Instagram tutorial
how to create icon
Why has the channel name and picture changed only on this video?
I don t have library in my photoshop (
Ok
you hairstyle is wow
Thought you should know that you have officially left me behind ...... it's been great seeing all your highly informative videos viewed on a regular basis since I purchased my iMac back in '07, but now that everything is now "cloud" based -- well frankly put, I'm still "ground" based anchored to my expensive (at the time 4 grand worth plus of apples & related software) & still functioning albeit now in an limited fashion. People such as me have just been DUSTED.
is this an Adobe sponsored episode ?
To me it looks like it is a suddle support to use Adobe Stock.
Next time make a BIG disclaimer at the start of the Episode, please ;-)
I think he just used Adobe Stock to show that it was available inside the libraries feature, since he is showing the whole libraries feature it wouldn't make sense for him to skip that.
No offense, but whats the big deal with someone not explaining they are sponsored or not, or is there something I'm missing.
there is no hurt to be sponsored, BUT if you want your statements to be taken as honest, you have to make a disclaimer IF your video has been sponsored, such as Google does for the sponsored search results ;-)
He is not asking people to go and buy a product. To follow the tutorial you already need to have Photoshop cc 2015.5. I don't really understand your comment, like i said you have a problem.
We prefer Adobe Stock as it's integrated directly into CC 2015, so Aaron doesn't even have to leave the program to find, license, and instantly use a photo. Adobe doesn't pay us to mention them in videos.
make cosplay of yourself in photoshop???
I don´t have a good english, i´m from Chile
AAron Nace:Cutting ur long hair to look beautiful.
Tip for youtube "Allow me to change up speed of adverts" mYVBE ILL finish em.. like how fast i typed this comment!
lol "ok" ok ok ok ....
Ok
omg u have long hair now
FIRST
So I guess now every time I want to do a project on Photoshop I'm supposed to pay Adobe for the image? What happened to the advice where to get free Images Arron?
So if you have your own pattern you can't upload it to adobe assets, you can't load it in the patterns panel (because there's now only swatches and "Libraries" which is adobe online storage of assets. So personal patterns can't be used. I've spent hours trying to load a plaid pattern. I guess I have to recreate it in PS then save it to the Libraries patterns online bullshit Adobe has. This is complete monopoly on Adobe's part. All libraries are stored in their cloud and people can't add or download anything. If I don't keep up my subscription I can't use my own shit. I'm so angry right now.
OMG! Its Roman Reigns!...
I learnt nothing, I could not get past the hair
Thanks for explaining Libraries, and no offense, but photographers should not try to be designers.
Why not?
your hair is kind of unkempt
