I don't *HATE* the Catholic Church - I simply point out the heresies it promulgates - like worshiping Mary whilst calling it "super veneration". Just look at the background setting for this video - the pre-eminence of Mary over Christ is clear. The figure of Mary occupies almost a quarter of the image and the little dumb statue of Christ ( even though it's centralized ) is just another blip on the screen amongst many other ones. The list of such idolatrous heresies is too long to put down here again.

Schmidtz video content and basic scripture and he ended up getting kicked out of the bar and he had no intellectual rebuttal. We care and strive for the best interest of the child. God knows the children nowadays, need it more than ever! When the students graduate from 8th grade they are honor students in high school. We have high expectations in the classroom at every grade. Kids are kids and they are going to get in trouble but they learn from it. Catholic schools now a days care more about being woke and PC. The catholic elementary school isn't teaching any religious stuff I don't know why. The kids have to learn it on their own time. In the third grade class only 3 kids were having their first communion and they weren't teaching the class the kids had to come to the church. In my day we learned about God at school too and had first communion class went to the chapel room. Sorry about grammar and spelling I don't tend to care about it when in the UA-cam comments. I feel the need to apologize since your a teacher 😂

@@meggo329 no need to apologize. Teaching style to service the needs of students has definitely changed since I was in Catholic school (in the 1980s). The new research and new focus on social and emotional learning. There are students at my school that are not Catholic. The parents choose to send them because we teach kindness (love of others), academics standards holding students accountable, and knowing we spend time with each student to help them grow. Parents also feel their child is more safe than a classroom of 25 students and a school of over 1,000 children. God bless! 😊

I was raised by a very faithful Irish grandmother. She also taught me that we have the Bible, catechism, & doctrine that never changes. But, she also taught me that men are mere men & not all represent the best of the church. When she died, I was 12. I was left to grow up in a convent school until 12th grade. I did pay attention to who worked on being holy & those that barely slid by. Back in the 60s there were still some few nuns that were pushed by family, because of poverty etc, to become a nun - they were generally the worst to deal with. I had nightmares until adulthood because of this 1, but it never changed my faith. I also learned that our learning of theology doesn’t end when we graduate school. We are responsible to continue learning with an adult mind. I am now 72 & my faith has been the only solid rock in my life. I have even experienced many miracles.

I was caned by a nun music teacher for getting piano notes wrong, caned by my maths teacher in grade 5 for getting sums wrong (Mrs Geisler - will never forget her name, the old cow). Me and my sister were humiliated by a nun in front of the whole school assembly for not having a mantilla (head covering) to wear in church. We were only 9 and 6yo. I was also regularly beaten by my mother. That was the way of the world back in the 60's, not saying it was right and it certainly broke your spirit but that's the way it was. Fast forward to Catholic schools today (my 5yo grandson goes to one) and they are positive, loving and enriching environments. I obviously learnt something though because I am blessed and very proud to be a practising Catholic today. I wish people who know nothing about Catholicism would stop running it down. I left the Church, I have no agenda to be protective of her reputation. Cardinal Mahony who protected so many abusers, lives comfortably on church property. That's a major problem in my opinion.
Having said that, it is naive to focus too much on the church as having a unique problem, because you will tend to ignore the fact that the most dangerous place for any child is in a home with a stepfather or a boyfriend. The person most likely to cover up and protect the abuser is the mother and I have personally seen it happen with several women and it's a very common occurrence.
At least in America, if you watch enough news, you will see a woman who let her boyfriend murder her child.
It is dangerous to speak of what happened in the church as something unique to her, so one need not have their guard up elsewhere.
Yet look what happened to the Olympic gymnastics team and for years. These were the most elite athletes in the world and highly intelligent gurls and young women and they were abused for years.
If there are children, there will be abuse. Right now, in most American dioceses, you can't volunteer or work for anything in proximity with children without being fingerprinted and trained and you still can't be alone with a child.

@@user-vd3bf3nd6r A post of mine seems to have disappeared after editing a typo - I probably got out too quick.
Short version. Yes, there is/was a problem in the Church.
Read the John Jay College report.
Right now, in most dioceses in the US, you cannot work or volunteer near children without being fingerprinted and trained and you still can't be alone.
If you think every one of the thousands of fully independent protestant churches are doing the same, they're not.
I left the Church for theological reasons but the presence of Cardinal Mahony living comfortably on parish grounds didn't help.
Having said all that, it's important not to regard what happens in the church as somehow unique to the church as it then will put the children in your life and the lives of others in danger from complacency and naivete.
The most dangerous place for any child is in the home with a stepfather or a boyfriend. That is simply, statistically and factually correct. The one most likely to cover up and protect the abuser, is the mother.
Some of the most elite gymnasts in the world were abused for years.
If there are children or adolescents, there will be abusers. It's just a lot more painful when it's a priest abusing and a bishop lying, covering up and facilitating it and they aren't punished unless they embezzle.

I went to catholic school for 12 years. One nun made my life a living hell. In math class she realized I was very shy so she started calling on me every day. If I got the question wrong she would belittle and mock me so that the other kids would laugh at me. She called me stupid, moron and dumb so many times that she basically broke me. By October that year I would cry when she called my name and was unable to do even one problem. So she put me in “a class for morons, where you belong” but it was the best thing for me. I passed 4th grade and on the 1st day of 5th grade she forced all “her morons” to take an unannounced test. I barely passed it but the new teacher deemed the test unfair and kept us all in her class room. Long story short she wanted me back in 4th grade to torture me again. Just me.
She mentally abused me but when my mom heard her talk about how I belonged in her class while I was passing with a B she took me to another Catholic school.
I could have easily remained sour about nuns but I remain catholic through some cafeteria days but strong now.
Joe’s opinion based on a few months is laughable. We should pray for him.

In fairness to Rogan, some Catholic schools were terrible in the 70s and 80s. I went for 4 years in elementary school and while a couple of the teachers were good, overall the school administration was awful. Bullies were allowed to do whatever they wanted and when the victims fought back, they were the ones punished and treated as if they were lying about being bullied. Boys were allowed to torment and make crude remarks to girls who developed early and the girls were treated like they were asking for the ill treatment. The principal was mean-spirited, the gym teacher was nasty to us less athletic kids, and there wasn't much tolerance for out of the box thinking (and I don't even mean in terms of dogma or whatever, I mean kids who were more creative than academic had a miserable go of it). There was also a lot of class snobbery from the wealthier kids.
The negativity I associated with the church from those 4 years at that school had lasting effects on me that directly led to me bailing on the church as a teen and then staying away for over 30 years until relatively recently when I finally came back... after a health crisis and after years of running into enough nice Catholics and Christians to be willing to take a chance on the church again, and fortunately my new parish is very friendly and full of kind people (and tambourines and guitars on Saturday night, lol... I'm sure Ryan Scheele would be horrified).
My older brother went to the same school, also hated it, and still hasn't come back to the Church. And I know other people whose Catholic school experiences also scarred them and have never come back.
So if Rogan's experience in first grade was anything like mine, I do understand why that shaded his opinions of the church. That it happened at the same time as a traumatic family issue like the divorce is doubly tragic, and yes, that might have colored his memory of the school, too, but taking a snarky and dismissive tone about that and assuming he must be mistaken or lying because your own experience of a completely different Catholic school was positive doesn't help build bridges or welcome people to come back to the Church; it will just make people who had a terrible experience at those schools think Catholics are as awful as they remember their school experience being. As another commenter said, this episode isn't a good evangelization.
And I do think a kid who is told Christ is about mercy and love at church might reasonably expect the people at the church school to behave accordingly. Yes, as adults we learn that people don't always live up to their ideals, but that's a high level concept for a first grader. And yes, he clearly wasn't well-cathechized. Neither was I... until I came back to the church as an adult and took it upon myself to read up and learn the faith.

Add to that, the trauma of bad parenting at home, fighting, affairs, and financial cheating and no access to help at school. Just being threatened with hell, chastised, and paddled by the principal. "Oh, he was only six years old." - "Oh, he was only there for 9 months." - "Oh, MY dad was rapped on his knuckles and it didn't make HIM leave the Church." Let me tell you from personal experience (as an adult (back then non-Catholic) mom who had a kid in Catholic school) that yes, there are some nasty, horrible people there, teachers AND parents, just like everywhere else. And it is a fact that there have been Catholic schools in the past (sadly, some run by nuns) where the kids were emotionally and physically abused. To minimize his trauma or talk it away doesn't help. It should be accepted for what it is (or for what he experienced it as) so healing can occur. Sorry to say, but many cradle Catholics' first instinct is to make excuses for any negative experiences or to cover them up-which is one of the reasons that the Church is in such a predicament with the abuse scandals today.

Here in Montreal Canada 🇨🇦 my dad went to Catholic school and he did well. He was a bit scared of the nuns but he said he had respect for them at the same time. My dad left the church because of the church scandal that happened here in Quebec Canada 🇨🇦. A lot of people left. The wounds are still there. However my dad believes in God but doesn't trust the church. I made a rosary for my dad and his response was "I'm not going to use this, but thank you". Trying to get my dad to go to mass with me. He is 84 years old and my wish is he will go back before he passes on.

Most people who bash anything have psychological issues about the topic. I had a terrible experience in the first grade with catholic nuns. My parents took me out, stayed with the church, however, college years, after years, lots of searching. Finally have come to see the truth about life through the Catholic Church. 63 years of age now. There is still hope for Joe 😊

An 8 year old in my daughter’s school convinced her parents to put her back in public school because she found catholic school very boring. She only went for two years and her mom is a very devoted catholic. Some parents just give in too easily. She was doing great in school too. We have never encountered teachers in catholic school the way Joe Rogan speaks of. All the teachers have been very sweet and supportive. We currently have 5 kids in catholic school and they, like most kids complain of the work but they also understand they are better off in there than public school.

I'm a traditional Catholic. In school, there was a Nun in Boston named Sister Mary Discipline. She walked around with a hockey stick and would check you into the lockers if you had been breaking the rules. True story. Don't discount the fear, don't rationalize his explanation. Meanness was the norm. Glad you all had a great experience, but I believe him.

I experienced the same unkindness as a first grader in catholic school... We had a very strict and unkind nun that was pretty terrifying at that age. He is dead on about the confusion you feel... we know in our hearts that Jesus is everything good & beautiful as a kid. But when we see adults in the church behave this way it is confusing. I love being a catholic, I love my faith. But it's important as a catholic that we are transparent about how the church has injured so many... and instead of mocking or casting aside Joes honesty, we acknowledge that there can be crazy people in church that are not always the best reflection of Christ, however a reminder to never let a mere human/experience have so much power over us that we are led astray... There will forever be distractions attempting to lead us from Christ.

I just want to preface what i'm about to write by saying that I would say that I am now Catholic, more than I am non-catholic, and faith is a big part of my life. I also grew up in a household that is very God-fearing.
That being said, I feel like my catholic schooling honestly made me much less Catholic, and in fact I would say it made me much less Christian and even less religious - to the point where I honestly doubted it all. All of my schooling from the age of 5 until the age of 18 was Catholic. (There's no middle school here, so it's just primary and high schools)
Of course, this was my experience - so take it with a grain of salt. I have spoken about this to a lot of my former classmates who are still my close friends and we all had a similar experience. Some have become more agnostic or atheistic, and others have come back to church like I have, so it's a mix.
I've always felt that the schools that I attended only really paid lip service to the values of Christianity. We would have mass, learn about the theory of religion (kind of - at the end of my high schooling, i probably wasn't even able to quote you a single bible verse apart from some of the 10 commandments that i remembered from The Simpsons), we were obligated to sing Christian songs against our will, and our school houses had the names of saints.
However, in the day-to-day schooling, the school was very strict, and yes, there were teachers that would believe themselves to be ultra pious and then openly threaten you and treat you like dirt, the school was obsessed with gathering funds for some reason even though the fees were not cheap (if you didn't donate to the school fundraisers, you'd get punished - yes this is true) - I think what i'm getting at is that there was a fundamental mismatch between what the school professed and what they ultimately practiced. I feel like this makes kids think twice about staying in the church in the end, which is sad, because once you're out, one can realise that the school is actually not a great representation of what Christ is all about. Instead, kids become easily carried away when they see their tertiary classmates, coworkers, etc make fun of the church, as now they have personal experience.
As i'm watching this, I'm finding it a bit frustrating because we as a community shouldn't be blindly rejecting the points of view of those who criticise us. Although I don't appreciate some of the crudeness that Joe uses in some of his arguments, I honestly kind of agree with him on some of the points he made about catholic schools - as you can probably tell.

Being Catholic today is very similar to being American today. I totally believe the USA today stands for many things I do not believe in, they have strayed from their origins, the founding principles are frequently ignored or lost. The country needs to cleans itself and return to its foundation. Catholism is the same. Proud to be both, not blind to either.

In other words, you've abandoned the Church Jesus Christ established, and you accepted the mistaken Bible interpretations of radio preachers. Time to come back home to Catholicism, dump the home-made Protestant theology that has no history for the first 1500 years after the Catholic Church wrote and compiled the Bible, then preserved it (and its proper interpretation) until you showed up.

Guys, I love this show and I watch a LOT of Rogan too. I recognize that deep, deep, deeeeeeeeep wound that he is carrying. Whenever I've heard him talk about Catholicism, it makes my heart ache. I, myself am in the process of reverting back to the Catholic church after 30+ years. It has taken 3 very solid smacks upside the head by God, but those wounds, often dealt by lay people with who mean well but suffer similar wounds, or religious authority figures who abuse that authority (or maybe didn't understand it well enough?) can be difficult to recognize, accept and admit. It has to be done, but it is so difficult. My husband grew up in a different religion and suffers similar wounds. It's pretty weird how religious wounds can turn a critical thinker, especially someone who seeks truth, inside out. But for those of us who keep seeking until we find, Grace is so important and so appreaciated. I pray for Joe that he will keep seeking and that he will find & I pray for you too gentlemen. Much love!

So I was looking for love at 13 I ran into Jehovah’s Witnesses who indoctrinated me with heresy and eventually left Christianity all together there is so many stories like mine so I definitely see Rogans point now many ppl are coming back to Christianity.

I have to confess that I had a very similar experience to Joe’s in Catholic School back in the 90s. There wasn’t any oversight for teachers’ behavior, and the was an atmosphere of extreme discipline. I’m talking about teachers flipping desks with kids sitting in them, throwing things at students, berating them in front of the classroom, making fun of personal things about students that they couldn’t help (height, weight etc). There’s definitely something to what he’s saying. My parents had it worse though, they were physically hit a lot by teachers there. They thought it had changed. They put us in there because the public schools nearby were violent, better of two evils I guess. I guess it did change a little..my sister and I were never physically hit at least. Just belittled, constantly accused of things we didn’t do, and were terrified to literally do anything. We held our breaths the whole time we were there. Thank God it only lasted 3 years. It did take some time to get past. HOWEVER, my sister and I both still love the Catholic Church and are still practicing today. I don’t know what’s up with the Catholic School thing, but what we went through is not ok. We recognize that and choose to separate our school experience from the faith itself instead of letting that end generations of Catholicism in our family.

My sister left the Church and all religion behind because of the actions on one Nun who hated being a teacher - she wanted yo be a missionary in Africa - and she took it out on the kids. My brother along with every other preteen boy on the parish was insulted, shouted at and hit by the pastor. Luckily he liked the other priests so while he wandered away he wandered back. My sister was so traumatized that for most of her life she had been an atheist. She has only recently come back far enough post a sign in her yard saying, God bless our first responders. ( Thankfully, I was sent to public school where I had a truly hate filled woman in 6th grade. To this day I am a practicing Catholic, and I will keep practicing until I get it right. But I do everything I can to dissuade people from sending kids to public school, private or parochial only. Which means I am like my sister)

My dad was dyslexic & the nuns in his school were super mean to him. Turned him off towards the church for sure. Never underestimate personal experiences with “believers” as a prime determinant of an individual’s view of God & church. Most people are going to use personal experience as opposed to theological intellectualism for their worldview.

I find many of Joe Rogan's comments offensive.
I am staunchly Catholic today but I prayed SO hard during 1st grade to never, ever have to go to Catholic school again. My mother's cousin was a Franciscan & I LOVED her. But my teacher(nun), as well as the children in my neighborhood were truly evil (I could list the grave sins I was subjected to). Thank God that he answered my prayers. My husband had a similar experience in a different Catholic school.

Born and raised catholic. I’m also a fan of the JRE podcast and I agree it is disheartening to hear this rhetoric about the catholic faith. Though I wouldn’t disregard his experience as a complete lie. I think that it is totally possible for a kid or anyone to experience unfortunate circumstances from people in the church. I think it’s very common to be someone who hasn’t humbled himself before god. we are fortunate to have this faith so ofc i’d say pray for him because this is easily my big brother.
I also find it hypocritical that he preaches to give certain comedians who have said or done messed up things in the past a second chance and to forgive and move on but doesn’t have the eyes to see that was gods will when he sent his son for us.
I also put my kids in catechism classes and had a bad experience the very first day with the teacher. I voiced my concern and was able to have them moved to another set of teachers and my girls have been completely blessed with a beautiful experience and amazing teachers. It takes maturity to not let people in the church ruin your own relationship with the church or god. All that to say I love the catholic faith ❤️

Going to Catholic School in the 1960's could be pretty brutal. I love the Catholic Church, but I can totally relate to his experience as a young child. There was not a clear policy on corporal punishment, and depending on the teacher, things could really get out of hand, whether the teacher was lay or religious. Some teachers were also emotionally abusive. It wasn't just an isolated teacher. I attended public school in kindergarten and first grade and half of second grade, then Catholic school for half of second grade and half of third grade, then back to public for the remainder of 3rd grade because the nun was so abusive it impaired my ability to learn, then back to Catholic School from 4th - 8th, which was an increasingly better experience. I don't blame it on the Church in general, but certainly more than a few parishes were very lax in supervising the schools they operated, and a small child looking for nurture certainly would not have found it in grades 1-4 in the Catholic School I attended. It was extremely tough love, and some teachers should not have been teaching. I also had some amazing nuns in grades 7-8 for whom I am extremely grateful. No matter how Catholic you are, or how much you love the church, it is important to own the fact that not just a few children had some pretty rough experiences; especially in primary grades where they were easily confused and could not defend themselves. Because his parents were getting a divorce, they were probably too immersed in their own issues to listen to his concerns and address them. Otherwise his parents would likely have marched down to the school and read his teachers the riot act, or even removed him for a year when he was not thriving.
