This Snail is a Zombie!!!

It's frightening and fascinating too: This snail is a powerless zombie. A parasitic trematode has taken possession of her. The eggs of the so-called Leucochloridium paradoxum pass through bird droppings in the digestive tract of the snail.
Inside its host, the parasite develops slowly to a fluke. The colorful, tubular structure grows into the probe of the slug, makes her blind and brings the spineless mollusc to defenseless expose herself to light and the eyes of birds. The snail is no longer able to retract her enormously enlarged and abnormal sensors and is therefore an easy prey. In the digestive tract of the bird the trematode then develops, multiplies and gets eggs, which are excreted in the feces. Then the whole game starts all over again. The Leucochloridium paradoxum was first discovered in Germany. But even in Poland, Norway and Russia, the parasite should be disseminated. If your run upon such a snail, you better leave it alone.
