The difference was obviously in the approach. They couldn't have sent Gandhiji or Nehru to rigorous improvement when they were protesting peacefully. Non-cooperation, hunger strike etc. couldn't be treated treated in the same as violent acts. In fact, revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Udham Singh and Mangal Pandey were sentenced to death. It's not that Gandhi was totally against violence. It was a strategy on his part. He knew that violence would be counterproductive. What he wanted was to awaken the conscience against colonialism and make freedom struggle a massive movement. The krantikaris were not able to get the masses on their side. Netaji was only the exception, but then he went out of the country.
Make it compulsory Army service for certain postings such as Advocates, Judges, MLAs and MPs. They must be posted in Kashmir or Manipur.
