- I was lucky to find this beautiful Jeep Rubicon in my Metal Masher run group. This must be the first plug-in hybrid to go on such an extreme trail. The Jeep handled it beautifully. Very impressed, I want one. Jeep jl 4Xe hybrid. Extreme off-road trail.
I just got my hybrid Rubicon.. it's awesome 😎😎
I think it is a great concept. What kind of range are you see in pure electric mode?
@@crawlerutah 28 miles
That is pretty good, would cover most commutes
@@crawlerutah yes my wife no longer buy's gas .
When I'm out in the woods in electric mode all I can hear is that damn pedestrian alert racket.
Absolutely enjoyed this video so impressive what these Jeeps can accomplish !
Thank You. What they can do overland and with people is amazing
Got one ordered. Now if it will ever show up.
I think I am going to get one, seriously impressed
@@crawlerutah First off thanks for the video. Not a ton of them online. I am hoping it will be a good deal. I am concerned about this being first year but hope everything works out okay Does not really get great MPG but Jeep went with performance over mileage and think that is how most of us would want it. Also with the $7500 rebate it actually ends up being cheaper than a gas rig. Supposedly they did the whole Rubicon Trail battery only but will have to see how it works in the real world.
I agree, Perfotmance over maximum range, 20 miles or so is still a lot. He said you could choose to save the charge, drive out on gas, then save the electric mode for the trail. I would love to see how far on a trail he could get in electric mode
I’d like to see a test where they time how many hours of crawling it can do on a full battery. The lack of noise is such a benefit. Electric torque seems like a perfect fit for rock crawling with peak torque at near zero rpm.
It does seem like a perfect fit, torque and quiet out in nature, I was crazy impressed
Same, but I am most interested in hearing about how it performs on the trail in hybrid mode when you have the equivalent of all 470 lb of torque and 375 hp - as I assume you just get a portion of that in electric only mode.
It looked great even in just electric, looks like more than enough torque, and with gear reduction I bet it would do great with larger tires
Jeep says that it can do the entire Rubicon Trail on pure electric. ua-cam.com/video/c5UhIZyFyQg/v-deo.html
@@gregbiles7120 That sounds awesome
This Rubicon is great! I enjoyed watching :)
It is pretty amazing
Did he say 370 miles on a tank (in hybrid)?!?! That is insane! God I want one.
I can’t wait to drive one
TOTALLY digging the Rubicon 4Xe. I really would love to have the 392 also but for a daily driver, the 4Xe makes a ton of sense. Damn you Jeep, I went from a 2018 JLUR to a 2020 JTR and you guys are making me think about trading in again. Lol. There are 2 4Xes coming to a dealer in town, a Sahara and a Rubicon. BOTH are over $55k and loaded with extra things I don't care for. That $7500 rebate from the government would sure help with the costs.
Anyone else notice that the spare tire went missing towards the end of the video? What happened? A tire puncture or someone else needed it?
They had a pinch flat and put on the spare, crazy they were doing such a hard trail, it really is a Rubicon with no loss of capability, I would get one. I showed the flat in my Jeep Safari Metal Masher video.
@@crawlerutah Thanks for the info. I must admit that I am a little jealous of not being there Jeeping. :D
I am on a facebook group JEEP Wrangler 4XE Fans and they're just getting them now, they look pretty awesome I just can't wait for the drag race against the 392.
🙂 I think we know who will win (4.5 sec to 60 vs 6.0) but 6.0 for a Jeep is nothing to frown at AND excellent gas mileage (which is not true for the 392).
I wouldn’t even think about a 392, you give up the Hemi sound but gain silence in the wilderness, how great that keep offers both
It's just so weird watching this jeep go through all this stuff and not make a sound.
Times are changed
@@crawlerutah I understand that, and completley agree. It's just feels odd watching a video of crawling with the sound on, and the jeep isn't making any sound. lol
So far I really like my 4xe but haven't been off roading , I don'[t see the electric charge doing much off roading !!!
I just saw one out on the road the other day, how does yours drive? Power delivery compared to the 2.0 or 3.6?
@@crawlerutah power good in hybrid mode but in just engine it’s a bit sluggish off the line but after that it accelerate nice ,it’s also really nice to drive even on freeway feels like a luxury car
I think it would be fun to go off-road in electric mode, just have near silence on a mountain trail would be ideal in my mind. I am curious to see the range while on a trail.
Cool rig!
21 miles of all electric range is really cool
The 4xe version of the Grand Cherokee will be perfect for us. Hope it comes with an even larger battery than the 17 kWh battery in the Wrangler 4xe, plus Trailhawk air suspension and LaneSense that I can replace with OpenPilot.
Grand Cherokee would make a lot of sense
I'd like to see it with 40's and 1 ton axles
Same here, it should do fine with gear reduction
Just ordered one that’s the plan
@@jordenwelch7059 what did ya order bud ? 40s , or a gear reduction?
If you need the power of the 392 but the daily ablity of the v6 get the 4xE!
It makes a ton of sense
@@crawlerutah ya I want one!
Cool wheeling you .keep an eye out for our vids soon
Will do
I spoke to a local dealer and he says the hybrid should come to our area in a few months so sometime this summer. I won’t be able to afford it this year but I want to test drive it just to see how it is versus a RAV4 hybrid I tested last year. My drive won’t be an off road like these but I’m curious how the system works. Videos can only tell you so much you have to be there in person feeling the system switch around from gas to hybrid to battery to get a real sense.
I agree, I have no idea how it feels, if it is clunky or smooth, powerful or how it feels when in gas mode only. Can’t wait to drive one
Thanks for posting! I have been starving for coverage of the 4xe from Easter Jeep Safari. Pretty interesting that was on 35’s with a lift. Did they say anything about that in relation to driving experience or gas mileage etc? (As obviously the 49 MPGe reference in the video is with the base 33” tires).
They didn’t discuss the driving experience, but to me it visibly looked great, I doubt driving would be affected much at all, probably a very modest reduction in gas mileage would be expected
And the mpge is in pure electric mode and the efficiency of that. In hybrid mode with gas motor primarily running its 20 mpg.
You had me at 49 MPG!
Unfortunately, 49 is a really misleading number. That's MPGe - which is the amount of power used in pure electric mode until the battery is discharged. That would be much better expressed as "1.45 Miles per kWh" You can do that for 21 miles until the battery is discharged, then it switches to pure hybrid mode, where the mileage is a somewhat disappointing 20mpg.
The way to win with plugin-hybrids is plug in at home, drive to work, take advantage of charging at the office (if available) and drive home. Then most of your miles, except road trips, are on electricity only.
Ahhhh ok thanks
As he said MPGe I wasn’t really sure what it meant. I do know I could charge it and drive to work each day and use little to no gas
@@stevensoutdoors some of us have received our 4xe's and we get better than 20mpg once the battery is down. More like 22 with mine so far but still early to say.
It’s the 370 range that’s amazing .. it will probably be around 25+ mpg in the end. Pretty awesome ..
I would like to see ho he got out from 6:17 situation.
ARE THE PLUG SHARE ROCKS WORKING?
Would be nice
Can we lift it more than 2in? I heard no ????
I understand that it is a Rubicon from the transfer case back, any of the JL lifts should work and with the electric torque it should do great with larger tires
Just wondering because of the weight. Someone told me it's not doable yet
@@therichhairdresserclub3634 I imagine the correct spring rate would be needed, I am sure it can and will be done. So many heavy steel bumpers, sliders, skid plates are added to these Jeep’s all the time.
True... thanks
Was that a fail on the hard line at 6:19 and switch to the bypass line at 6:20 ?
Driver and spotter Modification
Wow, I liked everything about your video (except for the mask) You guys are awesome! I cannot believe how brave you are to drive on those cliffs! Holy Mollie! Beautiful jeep! i test drove the Sahara 4xe, it was so nice, but this Rubicon is another story! Thanks, enjoyed watching all of you on the challenging terrain, even my stomach was turning a few times there!
The 4Xe is very nice, thanks for watching!
Aux switches?
Didn’t ask, I assumed it would be the basic 4
LAME! really LAME. What was with the edit at 6:15?? Let me guess, the "E" version has no throttle control, but you aren't allowed to show the truth?
The truth? Not allowed😂. This is just me having fun showing the Jeeps. Truth is that undercut ledge they tried is almost impossible with 31 inch tires. They also had a new driver at the time with the more experienced one riding shotgun. He spun on the ledge like many other Jeeps that day. They backed up, switched drivers and took a different line. Showed the other line and that they didn’t make it up that ledge like 20 other Jeeps in our group didn’t as well that day.
WTF is up with the mask dude
He was required to wear it the entire time, they were very good about it and never took it off.
Masked and muzzled in the great outdoors with the sun beaming. How sad. Shame on Jeep for making the employee do this.
Dude seriously.....a mask?
Jeep HQ required it for him to be able to go, I am glad they came, it would have been easy for them not to
