Thanks Nandy for this posting of this concert. Fantastic to see Diana and the Supremes preforming live in 1968. They apparently were on a World Tour in 1968. There is a recording of them performing Live at London's Talk of the Town that year. They preformed a number of the songs they sing here. Great to see them doing this concert Live after hearing the concert numerous times over the years. The record and CD may be out of print at this time. Pretty sure for most groups to be successful, there has to be "THE ONE" standout. No disrespect to others. None of the other Supremes had the sparkle and glitz or "IT" factor as Diana Ross. But she did need them. That's what made the Supremes and help her to gain confidence to stretch and become a solo success. Love the glamour and detail of this live performance with full blown orchestra. It's also amazing that they weren't put into a mold of just doing Motown hits. Got chills from the beginning seeing Diana "coming out" down the aisle to open the show. She was destined to be a STAR !!!
rusty monkey one thing that separates a true singer and or a true entertainer is the it the I'll use your analogy the ( It Factor ) makes the individual standout like the sun shines down on us , and you look up and can spot the sun at a glance , likewise Diana was the Supremes , she is the Supremes and unlike the other girls no disrespect in comparison to the radiant glow emanating from Diana pushed Diana not just forward but way out front and her abilities and glamour , charming, and just an immaculate style and class which carries even to this day made Diana very able to stand alone without the other girls even from the very beginning she was the star period . Can't argue with the facts because when Diana went on her own ,doing so allowed the public to choose both or choose one or the other ,the Supremes kept on making hits while Diana had to start all over and prove that she too was a star and the public chose to follow Diana from that point on even up and until right now 2020. So I beg the difference Diana was always the star that could and eventually did make it on her own as a solo attraction
See, I have slightly disagree. Yes, Diana had the charisma and stage presence, which is why she is one of the greatest entertainers of all times. However, I don't think you can slight Mary or Cindy here. Mary had a suave and sexy way about her.
@ Rusty Monkey - I just discovered the supremes recently and I gotta say I’m in love with Diana Ross... what a package! Stunning looks, mesmerising voice, stage charisma... I can’t believe what a class act these girls were... they outclass modern acts by far, especially when they can win new fans 50 years on
Matt C, Diana was the lead in 99% if the songs. She had the sound that made this group unique. Yes, Berry Gordy molded her to become the lead and standout from the others. She could do it all. Seen her at least 15 times live. It’s all her. She knows how to work and audience and never disappoints. Even at 74, still has the chops n charm. Try and see her live. 😍
Thoroughly enjoyed this concert! Gained a new appreciation of Diana Ross' vocals too. Never took her light, girly voice too seriously, but here she showed me some nuance and depth as a singer. They took a big risk singing standards with her as the lead. But she pulled it off resoundingly! Berry made the right choice in making her the lead singer of the group. She has something that makes you hang on to every note. But talking, not so much lol. That Marilyn Monroe style of talking, kinda took me by surprise.
All I can say is WOW! Thanks for posting this. I never saw a full concert of the Supremes. No wonder they were so loved. Berry’s real meal ticket. They really sounded fabulous and seemed happy together. Sang a lot of standards too - and very well. I’m so happy I saw this. I now see that a lot of the Ross bashing was jealousy outside the group. Ross had such magnetism. Hard to contain that in a group.
@artisteye1: Along with the super-talented Supremes, (dispel the myth of them as Gordy's meal ticket) there were FIVE labels at Motown Records....do you know them? Gordy, V. I. P., Motown (map label) Tamla and Soul. And do you know that there were fabulous artists on all of those labels?
Got to say now as a senior citizen this is the first I have seen this concert performance. Wow. Nostagia is great. They bring it Diana!!!!! Cindy!!!!! Mary!!!!! All three will live on as the greatest!!!!!!!!!! Classical musical stylist,!!!!!!!!
This is the magic that happens when all of the girls mics are leveled evenly you get to hear how great Mary and Cindy, and Flo sound and their magnificent voices. I hated it when in some of the performances the background mics would be turned down so low....they were too good for that
Those ladies are truly gifted Diana Mary Florence and Cindy the music that they brought us in the early '60s from Motown I'm 74 years old and I still love to listen to it
@Tim Harris did you know, when all 3 originals recorded, Flow's mic was appoximately 4.5 feet of Mary, And, Diane(a)? That how strong her voice was. NK! Check it out
It is wonderful to experience this concert today performing the standards and Supreme jewels. I will be seeing Diana May 5th at the new state of the art Hard Rock Live Nothern Indiana (s.e. of Chicago) in Michael Jacksons home town of Gary, Indiana.

The Voice of Diana Ross was The Only voice That Fits for The Supremes, no voice of Florence or Mary Or Cindy could ever reach the Voice of Ms Ross. Miss Ross has an authentic voice, she doesn't need to scream, her voice is a once in a lifetime voice. It isn't purely soul, it is much bigger than that; her voice has something nostalgic, something pure, something honey-like.
I am certain that any of the HDH compositions would have worked well on any member of The Supremes. After all, Where did our Love Go's Original Lead was for Mary!
@@s.rhockenhull1168 But i think there is something with the voice of Ms Ross, both Florence and Mary are very good, but Diana Ross has a classic, tiny voice
I wouldn’t expect you to say anything other… Diana had a commercial voice that pleased the majority… but the other two had SOUL…which makes the majority…..😏😏😏💋🌺🙏🏽
My late mother was a Supremes fan so much she had to have the style of wig all three ladies wore in this concert .I remember when she went to the George McGovern fundraiser at The Forum in Inglewood CA in April of 1972, she had on a ping chiffon skirt and blazer to match with fur trim around the color and pearl tear drop earings and pink heels .Wow she looked amazing that day .And wearing the Diana Ross wig too. I was ten years old at the time.
This is AMAZING! By the way, the song listing is missing "Love is here and now you're gone" - (which they sang after Queen of the House and before More.) And I second everyone else who has commented at how nice it is to be able to really hear Mary and Cindy. It's when we really hear all three of them that this group sounded most distinctive.
As big of a star as Diana became, I still feel she is underrated as a performer and pioneer. Her range, precision, stage presence…unrivaled!

I can’t believe what a class act these girls were... they outclass modern acts by far, especially when they can win new fans 50 years on
@Barry Croley - I agree, Mary really had sex appeal... I love Diana, but Mary is also pretty damn amazing... they worked great as a package
ブルースブラザーズで観た時は感動しましたです
Thoroughly The Grand Trio❤❤❤ with its " Auspicious Leader !" Yeah, DIANA!🎉🎉🎉
Beautiful I just love them. Oxo
They could sing the phone book and it would sound divine.

If only this had been filmed in colour...
B/w good, too.❤
No
I Love my Diana. I love Mary, Cindy and I love Flo.😊♥️🙏✌️😎
I've seen her in concert so many times in concert never ever lipsynching and in concert always singing in full voice.

A.D. Que, I agree. That phony voice of hers when she talked. I always thought she was a big phony anyway. I am talking about Diane.
They bring it
Diana!!!!! Cindy!!!!! Mary!!!!! All three will live on as the greatest!!!!!!!!!! Classical musical stylist,!!!!!!!!
They were very appealing to white audiences, something Berry aimed for. The other groups had a marginal sound
Nobody does it like Diana Ross! Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong!
THAT VOICE IS SUPREMES
Mr. Gordy Jr penned the liner notes on T.CB album, and stated: 'I truly am proud!". We can see why! Great harmonies with Mary, Cindy and Diana!!! 👍👍👍
I just love Cindy's dance moves here 💃
I Applause Diana.. She Said We’re The Supremes
Mary Wilson killing those background vocals 👏🏽!
This is the magic that happens when all of the girls mics are leveled evenly you get to hear how great Mary and Cindy, and Flo sound and their magnificent voices. I hated it when in some of the performances the background mics would be turned down so low....they were too good for that
where was flo here?
@@tsuyuasui7297 Unfortunately Flo was not here, she had been replaced at this point with Cindy Birdsong on the far left
Mics we’re not turned down during their concerts. They were so stupendous. Omg they all harmonized so beautifully to the song Somewhere. Legends
I wish somebody could colorize this show, those gowns are incredible
no group then and now can come close to the supremes

I'm sorry I didn't know that Gil Askey had passed R.I.P 🙏
Class and easy sophistication!
Wonderful!!!
mary is wearing her famous diamond golf ball ring, gifted from motown, on her finger that she always wore long throughout her career..also notice both diana and mary had their over bite and side gapped tooth filled in by this time. These beautifil ladies were game changer women...blessings to them all
Fabulous Diana Ross !

DIANA ROSS. THE MOST SUCCESSFUL FEMALE SINGER IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC! THIS WOMAN IS AMAZING!! DIANA ROSS IS THE BOSS!!
Why didn't Mary Wilson sing her only song "Can't take my eyes off of you" ? was it because nobody wanted to hear it? Lol
Selfish One or because it was all white crowd

The Voice of Diana Ross was The Only voice That Fits for The Supremes, no voice of Florence or Mary Or Cindy could ever reach the Voice of Ms Ross. Miss Ross has an authentic voice, she doesn't need to scream, her voice is a once in a lifetime voice. It isn't purely soul, it is much bigger than that; her voice has something nostalgic, something pure, something honey-like.
I am certain that any of the HDH compositions would have worked well on any member of The Supremes. After all, Where did our Love Go's Original Lead was for Mary!
@@s.rhockenhull1168 But i think there is something with the voice of Ms Ross, both Florence and Mary are very good, but Diana Ross has a classic, tiny
voice
I always want more harmony!
WELL SAID @dayram6217
I wouldn’t expect you to say anything other… Diana had a commercial voice that pleased the majority… but the other two had SOUL…which makes the majority…..😏😏😏💋🌺🙏🏽
I wanna see a whole concert with the original Supremes
My late mother was a Supremes fan so much she had to have the style of wig all three ladies wore in this concert .I remember when she went to the George McGovern fundraiser at The Forum in Inglewood CA in April of 1972, she had on a ping chiffon skirt and blazer to match with fur trim around the color and pearl tear drop earings and pink heels .Wow she looked amazing that day .And wearing the Diana Ross wig too. I was ten years old at the time.
I've often wondered what they and the other Motown acts had been like had they not been taught how to act on stage.
But they do sing the song you mentioned at about 12,30 minutes into the show.
@@frankiehunter. Yes, I know. My point wasn't that it wasn't sung- but that the title isn't listed in the lineup with the post.

Yes Mary is Gorgeous!!!!!
Mary very Supremely lovely.
Do Mary fans like Diana?
Incrível espetáculo! Perdeu-se a graça , energia das antigas Band Girls!
LOVE THOSE GOWNS
They were just Sensational, First Class Act. Real Princeses !!
You can really hear Mary in this one. No offense to Cindy, but after Florence, Mary had the strongest voice. I absolutely love all of their songs.
I so agree with u.
Just WOW!!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
