Good video and we seem to have a similar conclusion on how good the Sicilian Defense is for beginners. With that being said, against 1. e4, I mostly just used ...e5. I played the French Defense on and off for about and year and now I've been playing the Caro-Kann for the last few years. The Sicilian Defense has always been an opening I've played somewhat often in off-hand games, but not usually in rated games (exception being for surprise value a few times).

Sicilian is a good defense for beginners for sure because many do not know the basic of whites and will try to play as an Italian.
In my case, I couldn't get good positions playing E5 or Carokan.
So I started playing it after 1000 rapid rating points and It've been having a lot of fun.
I've been playing the narjdorf since then when I can. However, it is necessary to study how to deal with the alapin, the english atack and gran-prix.

Regarding the exercice: I gave it a night of sleep and can't find the right combination from trying to visualize it. I remember a Kasparov game in which Nxe4 works. I also have the Rxc3 idea to make Qxa2+ work but the queen recaptures and gives the king an escape square. Very curious about the answer.

What would be a rating where it can be considered playing the Sicilian? Does it make sense to learn an "easier"/less theoretical Sicilian first before or instead learning the mainline Najdorf?

For sure it is recommended to learn less theoretical lines at first, but the Dragon or even Najdorf are OK assuming the opponents wont be theoreticaly super-well prepared.
An intermediate level player may already employ those variations of the Sicilian, if there is an understanding of the following concepts: center control, space advantage, weak square, weak pawn, pawn breaks.
