There needs to be a coffee table book about this car. Every detail is fascinating.
I enjoy that you somehow manage to keep finding weirder and weirder "vehicles".
This thing is fantastic!
It's like art deco and steam punk blended together and poured into woodie style mold.
Lol "the clutch is like pushing down on someone's IDEA of a marshmallow"
I love this little doodlebug! It reminds me of a prewar European design. Like maybe some Paul Jaray or Hans Ledwinka design from the 1930s.
Bungee cord suspension. Brilliant!
If you're looking for a car to drive in parades and have everyone thinking "What the...", Jason has found the car for you.
Splintery death. LOL
"Splintery death" - love it!
Hey Jason, It time to leave the sinking ship known as Jalopnik and start your own channel. You should be getting way more views this.
I agree, but I also think that these videos are criminally under-viewed and would do way better in an independent channel.
Plus I'm sure his contracts wouldn't allow him to just leave his sinking ship
is that a douglas dc3 control yoke as a steering wheel and steering column
Beautifully made and that lovely bordeaux coloured canopy....
I've never laughed so hard watching a video. Watching him struggle to drive that thing is hilarious!
Digidi4 I did and i would argue that he complained a lot more about the Hoffman but he physically had a harder time with this thing.
@7:04 The bungee cord is part of the greatest achievement to this car. The designer had to create a time machine to travel to the 80s in order to get it. Sadly though ,he didn't see any more need for his time machine and destroyed it after obtaining enough cords.
I love this series:D Jason is just great at describing them too.
Filmed at Lane Motor Museum. I've got that car on video too but inside the museum. Awesome video and the museum is awesome too!
I used to drive a forklift with the same engine as this car, lol
The Smart car of the 50s
I actually kind of want this
i'd love to see this re-envisioned with modern engineering
give it a record player and ya got the ultimate hipster car
Weaponized charm, I am going to steal that one lol...
"Weaponized charm"! 😂🤣
I love how it looks on the outside
This guy is better at grinding gears than anyone I've ever seen. (That's not a compliment).
The Martin looks so cool that I'd modernize the drive train, suspension, steering, and brakes. Even though there is only one made, it cannot be driven or enjoyed.
LOVE THIS
You should drive a Velorex. It's a similar configuration, just instead of wood you have artificial leather on a stell tube frame...
I love these weird cars 👍
Hey this is virtually a “woody” version of the Hoffman lol!
So basically, if you are driving this going downhill on a gravel surface, you just ain't stopping at all. Ever. Until you hit something. We all know this from riding our first bicycles as kids trying to see who could slide their rear tire the farthest.
YAY More Jason Drives. :)
Regarding those theatre seats I’ve seen those in a London taxi. Of course they were in the passenger compartment and faced backwards.
That is fantastic. I love everything about that
"Nice refrigerator dumbass ...how ya doing?". Best comment ever in a video.
This is a great channel. Jason drives some of the weirdest machines on wheels, and has a sense of humor that must make all his friends hate him. (Personal experience. Been there, done that.) Next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'm gonna have to visit that museum...
That is hysterical! That made me laugh hard!!!
COOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!
You are so lucky to drive those I'm a new subscriber you are awsome.
Nothing to fear but termites 😆 WTF a bungee cord suspension 😳
This is the only reason why I'm subscribed to this channel.
Not so much made in a shed but more made from a shed
I am sorry that the prototype of a car called Prvenac (the first baby) by David Pajic (elevator building company) of Yugoslavia does not exist anymore. That was a car Jason should have driven. It had one wheel in the front, one in the back and two in the middle, steering wheel was also used to shift gears with it, headlamps were hidden under the grille, and it used Steyr Puch motorcycle mechanics, so it had no reverse gear.
The camera car at 2:37 and 3:01 is equally interesting!
We filmed this out of a Mia Electric, a French electric car that was perfect as a chase car!
German/French/Chinese/South Korean to be precise. The car was designed by french Coachmaker Heuliez, but before pruduction started they sold their electric car division. The company who actually built the car (Mia Electric GmbH) was owned by a German pharmaceutic magnate (Edwin Kohl). Since the car didn't sell well, he sold his stake in the company to a chinese-south korean consortium. The company then went bancrupt immideately.
I'm guessing you could do a whole year of videos at the museum, but I'd love to see something about that Mia, it's new to me.
Why was he stroking the handle 😂
Looks really cool though.
Its like the world's smallest woodie wagon.
"Weaponized Charm" I have a new goal.
2:15 that car in the back though
I want one, LoL modify it for modern times and it would be actually great and fun. XD
I like that little car lol
Really amazing steering wheel.
It looks like a pretty cool camper trailer. But the one tire brake? Keep it lol.
Oh man, I didn't realise Jason Drives was back! I love this series, you get to learn about these bonkers cars that I'd never have heard of otherwise
Crazy car :)
Weaponized charm - always loved this Martin, glad to finally see a test drive of it
It looks like a big piano with a hidden bar.
I would really like to know the performances of this vehicle. It's a shame that the concept was not developed!
Yeah, crazy features that were meant to be improved but... 4 cylinders in a microcar? Looks powerful!
@5:14 Jason! Dude! You're hilarious! I'm ROFL!!
PuhLeeez DO MORE VIDS! These are such great entertainment for a fellow "car guy" (although Ferrari is more my speed, so I liked the aluminum "Most beautiful homemade car on earth" more than this one). But, STILL - ya gotta do MORE VIDz!! Any car will do. Heck, find some motorcycles!
Hey Jason, have you ever done stand up comedy? You might be good at it! You say the darnedest things in these videos.
I know it's difficult to find unique rides these days, especially with owners who will let you drive them - out on the street no less, but, keep going guys!
And cool camera-car BTW - full electric! Yeah Man!! Suhweet! Just wait until you can convert it again - but to Hydrogen Fuel Cell and go like 500 miles per tank of "gas" (H2 obviously), and go from *0-60MPH in like 2.3 seconds* ! With 275ft lbs of torque at 0 MPH...that'll piss off the petrol-heads. LOL!
Thanks again for the laughs, attitude and candor!
Keep goin'! :-D
Imagine driving on the freeway and getting passed by a wooden porta-potty
Imagine a crash in that! At least it would also double as your coffin!
My wifey would give anything to own this.
🙏🙏
Looks like the H.G. Wells' Time Capsule, just not for travelling through time. I'd love it, but I'd be scared to death in it.
Bungee cord suspension a la Piper J3. 😂
OMG is that a Honda City Turbo in the background ???
Jason's jeans look like they were for somebody 10 inches taller than he is
Yes the shifter is creepy. That car could be great with a modern drive train.
*Y'know I wood hate to be a third wheel here, so I'll leave now.*
What is the van in the background ast 2:23?
so, uh, when are the episode for the camera car, that thing is cute!
$995 in 1950 was a lot of money. You could get a luxury car for that kind of money. What was he thinking?
Let's discuss Jason's pronunciation of 'Googie.'
(at 0:48 )
OK, OK that's it. I concede. Uncle.
You sir have become a living legend.
I salute the weirdness that you deliver and the weird way that you deliver it..
What kind of car is the camera vehicle
2:16 what's that car in the back?
What's that in the background at 2:11?
I realllyyy like that
Hey Jason what was car you were using for filming , I don't know why but with updated engine /gearchange /brakes I would like one ,do I need help?
Correction, this was in 1950, not the 50s. The cars didn't typically have tailfins that year, rather they had streamlined quarter panels.
Hmm LARC 15 in the background of the opening shots - interesting
This car looks like hamster on steroids 🙂
I like these vids but why are they so short?
Awesome new episode!
The engine is called Hercules!
So tell us how you really feel about that gear shift lever 😄
Soo it Handles like a Shed on Wheels?
Jason , you are a very very brave man ................. get the hell out of that car !
*Love these videos!* Really showing us parts of the unusual motoring history. Not like that shouting DeMuro dousche guy, yelling and repeating "quirks" 90 times/useless video.
Thanks for existing, wish you *more subscribers*!
He reminds me of Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls. The car would be a nice addition to the mystery shack.
Wait wait wait, is nobody going to talk about the car behind Jason at 2:10-2:30? What the fuck is that thing?
$995 in 1950 would equate to a $10850.00 dollar pricetag today...🤣
I wonder how much the transmission repair cost.
The front looks a lot like the back end of a Ford Woody from the 40's
And they would ask “does it float”
What it's like to watch: Back in the 1950's, some guy made a weird car. Look at all the weird stuff it has and does, isn't that cool?!! Tune in next month to see the 5 wheeled Shiftyshotty 234
This would look great in a bonfire.
Hahaha, "Abraham Lincoln would have driven it?" With theater style seats? Good one.
Log cabin.
