Contagious, no kidding! 5 buff hens, #1 came and went, 2 came before #1 stopped, 2 weeks and she went, #3,4,and 5 are now testing me. Those last 3 are in a protected outdoor cage 24/7 until they stop. Was a good time to swap them from one rooster and his flock to another~ not getting any eggs anyway, don't need the nest boxes. They do not like me right now, lol!

I’ve got two Broodies in one nesting box and another sitting in the other. I evict them daily sometimes a few times a day but it’s not working. Time to try the ice bottle trick as I’ve read that cold dips will break them. I don’t really need the eggs as the other girls are doing fine but I don’t want these three getting weak. Thanks for the tips! ❤️💪🏼😎👍🏼❤️

In Florida hens can set any month of the year. A warm spell + several eggs in the nest = broody. My poor silkie has tried 4 times. It appears she kicks out the hatchlings and the other chickens peck on them. I've managed to save 2 hatchlings. The last nest of about 10 eggs hatched zero.
So now she's in a cage with no nest box. Cluck, cluck, cluck....

So got one broody hen currently sitting on like 15 to 20 eggs. She's alone in the coop. Just got done building the new run so my flock is in there while she nests. Had no idea she was sitting on that many eggs. She has hatched a couple chick's in the past.

10-12 is safer, if they have too many eggs there's a higher chance of an egg busting which can lure in predators, ruin other eggs, or even kill the hen from infection. Also when the hen rotates the eggs overall hatch rates will be lower as more will get too cold and die.

Thank you for the information but, what do you do if a chicken is so determined that she stops eating and drinking altogether? I have a hen indoors currently in jail, but also being dropper fed and watered, she has made herself so sick she is wobbly on her legs, ( can walk but slowly) HOWEVER, she is getting better. Must stress I am new to chickens but did everything possible to break her, she just stopped eating... I wonder if you have any experience with this? Thank you

I have one and I keep taking they eggs from her. I was thinking about putting a couple Cornish x chicks under her. What do you think.

Go for it, I put chicks under hens all the time, but only do it at night when it's completely dark.
