I love how he will get a pole bending hit and just point at it. I would be scrambling running to my pole, knocking children out of the way to get the fish.
Yeah. My girls learned early on that it's every fisherperson for themselves. There ain't no standing back waiting on me to let them wind it in. They got pretty good at keeping a stick handy for tripping purposes.
Nice blues Dave. I finally caught me a big blue an best part my wife was with me. It was 41 inches an in the 30 lbs range. Awsome. Keep the videos Rollin. Sure nice to watch. While I'm fishin
No contest this trip on who the winner was. It was as usual a great video and from my point of view it's a winning format, your investment in your boat was a wise one, along with your rod set up. Cheers from Cornwall.
Catfish Dave me my buddy here in Beaumont Texas love your videos, what's your biggest flathead and blue cat, also would like to see you start letting us know the guess weight of your fish, it's hard to tell on these videos. We really enjoy how you explain everything. Would love some time for you to come down to fish Sam Rayburn lake in Jasper tx with us. Thank you . P.s we'll have some cheese for you.
Exactly hooking a bluegill the way cat fish Dave does doesn't help. Cutting up a bluegill puts scent in the water attracting the catfish to bite. Looks like he needs to use bigger bluegills on top of it.
If they don’t want the live bluegill maybe you could cut the tail off and cut up towards the head on the sides. Just a thought. Great fishing 🎣 keep up the tight lines.
Thats been my experience with bluegills too. They seem to kill them but won’t eat them. Carp chunks are great… live channel cats are good. Live shad is my favorite. I just don’t do well with bluegill… except on bush hooks when I did that.
Nice work! Never herd of skipjacks until your channel . What makes them better? Are they oily and fattier? Do you ever get bored of fishing? What keeps your interests to high? Do you hold state records currently? I live Colorado
Love your videos man. I just got back from MI. Caught nice pike on a live bluegill , in about 50' of water, just letting bluegill swim around w hook through it's back.
Should always hook live bait through the nose holes. Reason why when a predatory fish grabs a bait they eat then head first. So it's always best to have the hook closest to the head area.
Tip for hooking up live bait come back more towards the tail and down further from the spine. If you hook em too close to the spine it doesn't take much for another fish to break em off.
Hey Dave love the videos man if you ever get a chance what you doing video down around Milton Hill dam or Bull run steam plant Love to see that this area I fish in
Well that was an awesome blue and many more that you caught and a couple that you lost but still yet you caught plenty on a skipjack sometimes a bluegill or a brim that just don't want it I guess any anyhow thank you for sharing it's kind of a inspiration to see what the fish prefers best
I love your videos. But joe with chattcats uses cut bluegill a lot and iv seen him land some big ones. I respect your opinion though, I haven’t caught very many big ones on bluegill either.. I guess it’s all about the right place at the right time.
I used to know a commercial fisherman back in the 70’s who would gather up willow flies by the pound under a street light, grind them up and basically make bricks of willow flies. She would then cut them up with 20lb line in pieces as big as a sugar cube and put them on her trot lines and wear the catfish out
... Would it make a difference if the bluegill was chunked up, like the skipjack? ... Have the live BG and a chunk of BG to see it that makes a difference. .
Every single time you sit down to eat anything you get a good hit so maybe when you're not hitting nothing grab you a little snack LOL thanks for the video Dave appreciate it
Saw your comment on your personal FB page about people giving you crap about linking products to your videos. I say screw them and block them, you do you. Stinger hook on the bluegill ? Just a thought.
Try offsetting your hooks on the live bait. I think with suspending live bait there's already pressure pulling your live bait back out of the fish's mouth and your hook could be turning and laying flat against your bait. Giving the hook nothing to grab when you reel down on fish.
Hey Catfish Dave do you have a link to Mad Katz? I would like to buy some fishing gear from them, it’s around 300 dollars. Do they kick some dollars back to you? Just seeing if in ways it helps you out. Looking for ways to support you and your videos. Thank you for your time on the water.

cut that bluegill so it bleeds a bit. I haven't used skip jacks cut up yet. Just worms and bream. Do you eat them big catfish? I like the smaller ones 2lbs at the most.
Mad Katz rods 👍 can’t recall what reels they paired with 🤷♂️ sorry mate, perhaps someone can recall, maybe CFD himself 😳 I know he uses thumb hooks 😝😂😂 ✌️
Did you ever throw a jig w a crawler or gulp minnow in a 60 hole to see what you could catch? The deepest it gets in the river I fish is about 35 feet.
You should try some cut bluegill. Not just live. Bluegill heads. Can never go wrong with skipjack though. They're just a different bait than everything else.
I hooked a big catfish while walleye fishing. On light tackle and 8 pound test line i could not get him off the bottom,It was fun but he straightned my hook and got away.Oh well that's fishing for you.
Dave, how about cutting the bluegill like the skipjack? I realize it would have to be a larger bluegill but the blood is part of the attraction. Ha, I see now other folks have the same idea.
In my opinion live bluegill are for more aggressive catfish and cut skipjack catch more because it's an easy meal. Maybe if you was fishing closer to a logjam you might've done better on the bluegill just a thought. Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
I love how he will get a pole bending hit and just point at it. I would be scrambling running to my pole, knocking children out of the way to get the fish.
circle hook fish hook themselves no need to be in a hurry
Same 🤣
And this is why you don't land fish lol
Yeah. My girls learned early on that it's every fisherperson for themselves. There ain't no standing back waiting on me to let them wind it in. They got pretty good at keeping a stick handy for tripping purposes.

@ 6:50, a very respectable fish in anybody’s cat trip. Nice, Dave!

Hey Dave would you get more bites on the Bluegill if you cut them in half and fished them like you do with the Skipjack?
Exactly hooking a bluegill the way cat fish Dave does doesn't help.
Cutting up a bluegill puts scent in the water attracting the catfish to bite.
Looks like he needs to use bigger bluegills on top of it.
I think the main purpose of him doing it was to see if he could catch something on live bait
@@nathanaelbrown2062 subscribers hounding him to try
Another great video. Be safe and we will see you soon. Thank you for your time on the water.
I'm glad you don't have to deal with the tide and crabs like we do here in Richmond and you get skipjack all year round!
If they don’t want the live bluegill maybe you could cut the tail off and cut up towards the head on the sides. Just a thought. Great fishing 🎣 keep up the tight lines.
I think for a more fair comparison you would need to use the bluegill as cut bait.
Thanks for trying at least with live bait. By me, flatheads prefer live bait. Never caught one on cut bait and I try both. Good video man!
Try cutting them bluegill in half and use both pieces on the same hook flatheads love it

Yes. Oily. Think sorta like fresh water herring.
I live in East Texas and had not herd of skipjack either. Here in East Texas Blue Gill are King with big fish.
They a shad. Very oily
@@leehalifax In the herring family Clupeidae. Yes.

Wondering if the blue gill would have been better cut up. Head piece, tail piece?
Rough day at the office, sorry Dave.
The tails of the Bluecat look like a set noodle hanging off a big strong head hahahaha

I caught a 22 pound blue cat Saturday night on a skipjack body piece for some reason they wouldn't touch the head piece
Where I fish in Lake Havasu AZ cut bluegills beat live 95 percent of the time for flatheads. Just my experience.
You're hookin' the blue gills wrong!
Logger John.
He is still getting the fish lol.
Caught more by hooking them bluegills in the tails on rod and reel. Hooking them in the back on trot lines.
Persistence pays off!
You can get a gar if you have some jugs. I break there bills and usually retrieve my hook’s
That blue gill can get you a ticket in some states.

Why not switch baits to the other side to compare frequency of hits then?
Try cutting a big blue gill in half and use a big 8/0 mad cat circle hook git lot better hook up

Thoughts on cut blugil?
We dont have a multitude of big fish like you do but the overall bite is about the same. Getting tore up by dinks and the has been relatively slow.
Woooo another video to watch while working always 👍 good
is there a video where you show how you rig your stinger hook? great video by the way!
