  • Police in Georgia's capital used tear gas and water cannons Tuesday to disperse protesters who rallied outside the parliament to protest a bill that would require media and non-commercial organizations to register as being under foreign influence if they get over 20% of their funding from abroad. They denounced it as “the Russian law” because Moscow uses similar legislation to stigmatize independent news media and organizations critical of the Kremlin. Regis Gente reports from Tbilisi.

Guys you have to cover Ivanishvili’s Speech on a pro-government rally (people brought in Tbilisi from regions by force and money) this monday. It was essentially an official announcement of the change of the foreign policy (which was pro-western officially up until now). He said that the aim of the law is to stop NGOs from organizing a revolution in Georgia and he also blamed western financed NGOs for all the problems in Georgia in the past 20 years.
He announced “The Global War Party” (The West) as the N1 enemy.

The USA has a Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).
Australia has a Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme Act 2018 (FITSA).
The UK has the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme (FIRS) pending.
The French National Assembly is examining a draft foreign interference bill.
Georgia wants a similar law... but critics call it "the Russian law" SMH.

Why do you call it 'Russian-law' ? Russia was not the first to come up with such a law; for example, the USA has a very similar law since 1938 - The Foreign Agents Registration Act. I'm sure other countries have something similar. So I don’t understand why this law is called Russian, every country is trying to protect itself from external interference
