High Cup Nick was something I had wanted to see for over a decade. I was lucky I had it on clear weather but it's also stunning with the cloud. Adds a lot of atmosphere. I still think about being sat on the top munching my snacks and not wanting to leave. You're doing fantastic and I love your videos.
I have walked the Complete Pennine Way Twice and even returned two years ago at the age of 65 for a Hike from Middleton to Dufton, then onto Kirkby Stephens, Keld and Richmond before catching the local bus to Newcastle for my return coach trip back to Essex. I LOVED it even though it rained every day. Happy Memories from my hiking past. Tony in Essex a retired Hiker
Thank you, such good memories, I've been to High Cup Nick on a hot summer day and when I was blasted by high winds and heavy rain, such an amazing place. The beauty of the place is that cars have to be parked a good distance away, so most people never make the effort to walk there.
Great vid. This was my favorite section also. You can understand why the original planners took the trail westwards at this point. The hobbit huts are perfect. On the trail (no need to divert) and near the village pub. Looking forward to your trek over Cross Fell.
The section between dufton and Middleton in Teasdale is definitely one of the best sections, waterfalls galore and high cup nick....I did it north to south in 2015, I stayed in dufton youth hostel for £10 a bunk with breakfast an extra fiver...the campsite wanted £12.50 for a 1 berth tent, so it was no competition. The pub had really nice food too, I had steak and ale pie if I remember rightly. Keep going, your doing fantastic 👍🏻
Such a beautiful video. The scenery, the music , your enjoyment of this day….jt made for a perfectly blessed experience for your followers . CARPE DIEM.
I enjoy your optimism and the way you keep going despite the difficulties. Short autumn days have their difficulties but when the sun breaks out it’s wonderful. Looking forward to your return in April when you tackle the Offas dyke path. It is wonderful and I know you will enjoy it. Thanks again for sharing your journey.
Amazing video. Your happiness shines through. Loved the shots of High Cup Nick, it looked very dramatic. I had complete whiteout when I was up there. Enjoy Cross Fell, it is a highlight too!!
One year AFTER I completed my first Pennine Way I was once again back on the Fells you are currently hiking over, only this time I was in the UK Army and I was on those ranges on the other side of the Wire Fence near High Cup Nick.
I found your channel yesterday and i've spent the last few hours watching your hike so far. I thru-hiked the Pennine Way in 2022 southbound and your videos are bringing back wonderful memories for me. You seem to be stopping at the same places i did so its even more poignant. A little gutted you didnt go into the shelter near Middleton-in-Teesdale: The wall inside is filled with hikers' writing and i was hoping to see my contribution to the artwork 😉 Really looking forward to the rest of your journey, you are a brave soul doing this so late in the season. Prepare for lots more mud, especially after Bellingham, that was bad in May, i dread to think what its like in november! Good luck.
Arguably the best of the Pennine Way, certainly up there as one of the best sections. The walk up the Tees is delightful (there's a Teesdale Way as well), right up to Caldron Snout. High Cup Nick is something else (when it's not obscured by thick mist). Did you see any of the wild horses on the way up there?
Falcon Clints I think is the roughest section of the Pennine Way, then you have the climb up the side of Cauldron Snout, and yes there is a bridge at the top of the Falls.
Very impressed by your physical and mental stamina. The 60 miles from Keld to Alston is really the crux of the walk, at least to Byrness. Two 20 mile days @2.5mph, you make it look easy when it isn't. Well done.
The Pennine Way looks like such a wonderful trail, even in the autumn; it is beautiful! Do you think you might hike it again sometime in the summer with Ben the Ram? I love your videos and look forward to them! 😃💙
Benderam would hate this trail! He hates wet feet, mud and bogs. Lol 😅i think ill bring him only on easy trail bobo...like the Cotswold Way, Cleveland Way, South Downs Way. Hehe. Ill redo the PW myself
Pennine Way Pedant's Corner: The 'Nick' in High Cup Nick is the mini ravine at the far eastern end of the glacial corrie/U shaped valley seen at 21.41. High Cup refers to the U shaped valley of course. It is a great shame it wasn't clearer as you dropped down to Dufton. The views up and down the Eden Valley and across to the Lake District are among the finest in England. Bill
Pleased you enjoyed your day Christina and enjoyed Low Force, High Force, Cauldon Snout, and High Cup Nick, did you manage to bump into Mad Mike's world, he did the Cape Wrath Trail in the summer and his videos were on You Tube, when you walk accross Hadrians Wall i think you will find it a bit up and down and some are quite steep, you will also pass the famous Sycamore Gap tree that stood for hundreds of years and some vandals cut it down last year.
I really have a problem with autumn and winter camping. The camping is not a problem, it's the long hours of darkness that always defeat me, I'm such a light and short sleeper. Up to six hours of sleep is my limit, and I just can't fall back to sleep again. So my solution during these periods is to car camp.
I'm so glad the cloud level was high enough for you to see High Cup Nick. I have a question about how you're holding your Gopro. Do you have it mounted on a small gimbal with a rotating head? If so, which one do you use?
@@johnsanderson9703 this time I only use the original small short stick, no gimbal. The rounded stick is easy to roll around in my hand so it turns smoothly.
At least by doing it in November you are getting everything for yourself. Not another soul to be seen. In August there would be crowds. But doing what is well known to be the boggiest trail in the country in November - get waterproof socks! You should do it again in spring.
Hiking trails is fine for the young, but have you considered rambling? Just stroll along, go over or around any hills you might fancy. Stop for a brew, food, camp whenever you like. Back to a B&B if the weather is iffy. My admiration for your strength and stamina is unlimited, but i feel for you trudging through the anticyclonic drizzly gloom.

Your enthusiasm is wonderful to watch, as is your filming. You manage to condense a whole day's walk really well into 20 minutes. Thanks again!
