That would be awful.. unsieged tanks aren't worthless but unsieged liberators are. Would be a weaker comp than any of his other challenge series, and probably not very fun since you can't cheese properly with it.
omg I rewatched that nuke like a dozen times, your reaction + your opponents had me rolling! Kudos to your opponent being a good sport and Thermy your reaction is just adorable, haha, that was just hilarious.
Lol what a great episode. The nukes were awesome and the terran player seemed like a good sport about it. The barcode protoss on the other hand did a triple pause rage lmao!
Upgrades to grand master is interesting. Max unit upgrades as fast as possible. Would be interesting to see if super early +3/+3 and lower unit count could keep pace with a normal build.
A small variation on what everyone is suggesting: "Land Grab to GM" - all expansions have to start on the opponents half of the map, and you can only fill in on your side if there are no empty bases to grab in front.
No Depot to Grandmaster: You can build whatever you like, just no depots. How can you not automatically build depots by accident?! Will anyone notice you have no depots?! I want to see UThermal's devious mind work on a way to make this happen! If it is just too hard, how about One Depot to Grandmaster, but you can't build the depot first. N Depots to Grandmaster: means you can scale the difficulty along the way if you like. Fixed Depots to Grandmaster: You can only build depots if they only structures you have are command centers and depots. The first structure you build that is not a CC or a depot locks you out of making any more depots. Love your content, UThermal, your videos and your joyful presence are the highlight of my day.
Idk if it'd be possible, but I think it would be very entertaining if you did something on the lines of taking one of their early expansions and holding it as your own/winning.
I've been watching uThermal on UA-cam for about a year and a half, maybe two years. I've been waiting for such a reaction and a game like this TvT from the beginning - pay attention to uThermal's reaction when he nuked the op army for the first time xD
I know it's super slow to get going, but I want to see Mass Viking to GM! You can only use vikings and defend with whatever you think is needed. Another one I wanted to see was Tank Siege Crawl to GM, where you build so many tanks that you can siege and crawl forward in a terrifying way. Use any frontliners as desired
An idea for a Terran challenge: No units that can attack air *except* liberators (maybe ghosts allowed in TvP). Most people laugh at how low the damage is without realizing how big the splash is. Once you get more than ~15 they melt any ball of air units, from corrupters to carriers. It gets even more goofy when you anti-armor missile the targets first.
I say you start putting it into a random generator. have it roll 2 or 3 units and thats what you have to use. but maybe an idea: Transformers to GM. Tanks, Hellions, Vikings. Idk competitive play so idk if thats really a challenge or not. maybe thats a good unit composition already haha.
That's what mana did to start these challenges. He put every unit on a wheel, spun it twice and only could make the units that were spun, for the usually three games of each episode/video. Quite fun match ups
Another giant Ghost army with no Medivacs? =o 12:55: That was so many Ghosts lost for almost nothing =/ 13:40: Aaaand BOOM goes the dynamite! xD I particularly love how the Marines were instantly incinerated and then the shockwave blew their bodies away. 23:45: Baiting into Mines is so fun =)
Marc - How about engineering bay upgrades to grandmaster? You can do whatever you wish in a game, so long as your first two upgrades are H-Seq tracking and building armor. Love your channel!!
i thought something similar, but Marc has said in the past he doesnt enjoy things like Turtling, hence we havent seen a Turtle to GM. because that doesnt really allow for outplays. Using whatever he wants is a normal game for the most part.
I used to enjoy a challenge of building a road of lowered supply depots, similar to sim city where you need roads connecting buildings. My build normally was a 4 rax built adjacent to 2 supply depots. I've actually had pretty good luck with this build despite building an extra depot early on.
Federation trade embargo challenge Passive build where you stop them from expanding or attacking. Main units could be tanks/turrets and you just suffocate them until they leave. Name could be GLYWHF (good luck you won't have fun)
I want to see an extreme contain to GM series. Could be played with random. Terran: planetaries, tanks, turrets, and liberators seige them in their base. Protoss: cannons, batteries, disruptors, and tempests Zerg: proxy hatch, queens, spines, spores, etc. I'm thinking the restrictions would be based around the opponent not being allowed to get more than 2 or 3 bases up rather than based on uThermal's units. If they get a 3rd up for example you gotta pull all the boys and go for the kill win or lose.
Challenge suggestion. Singleminded Terran. Only 1 of each building at any time. Exceptions: depo, gas extractor, CC, maybe turret and bunker. Or, only one of each add-on type at any time. Or both. Variant: only 1 of each CC type aswell (so 3 max).
Infrastructure do grandmaster: you can only attack/defend using buildings, so you would have to create lines of bunkers+PFs and advance as if you were building trenches lol
Some kind of randomness would be nice to incorporate into a challenge to keep each game interesting. Maybe you could roll for one unit per production building at the start of a game and you can only build those units. Then each game would be a unique combination of units you would have to improvise with.
NEW SERIES IDEA: turtle terran/efficiency to grandmaster. In this series you can use anything but you have to stay home and trade so efficiently that's what wins the game. Idea 2. Orbitals for supply to grand Master. Your allowed 1 supply depo and 2 bases of svcs or less. So if 2 base is 44 svc that's your max svc count. Your orbitals double as your svc and supply count. Personally I think you limit it to 1 base with gas 22+ 1 mineral base +16 for 38 total svcs getting out of the early game is incredibly difficult and I suggest building your production on expansions while packing orbitals in your protected main.
I just want to see the "uThermal's fist" type of challenge where you definitely have to finish the map in first hard push out. Do or die type of tactics no matter if it hits in 5th minute or 25th minute of game. I think it's more fun when playing random but any dedicated races deathball building when defending would be insane to watch.
Let's see a series based on the concept of only being able to build one of each and every unit before a second unit of the same type may be produced (with the exception of probe, drone scv, overlord). The combination of multiple unit types and casting/passives could be quite interesting and unique! Any race GM challenge!
Green Bars Attack: We like repairing and healing stuff more than you do. So the challenge is this - play like us!: you are not allowed to send anything out from your base unless it is on full health.
Bunker pushes would be fun too. Just only attack with Marines while in a bunker. Dunno what unit restrictions you would have to allow to make that viable though
uThermal - your SC2 content is amongst my favorite. Your skill level is off the charts and your commentary is delightful. Keep up the great work, you're such an asset to the SC2 community!
Two Widow Mines, la la la la la Nukes on your head, la la la la la There goes your army, And here comes the GG, Thermy can't stop laughing, la la la goodbye. 😘
Since freestyling builds can lead to some crazy games I think a challenge where you roll three random units before the game and that is what you have to play with could be fun.
When there is a really big nuke or other AoE I like to advance the video one frame at a time and see how many health bars vanish. It's another type of beauty for hits like that one
I would love to see a No attacking to grand master series. All units allowed, you cant ever attack your opponent, you bunker up, static defences, units defending your fortress. Kinda like an Campaign AI. Let them smash their heads against the unbreakable wall until they lose but you cant ever attack their bases.

I played the original campaign when I was a kid & played the 1st part of wings of liberty but never finished SC2. Try having a max of 5 non-economy units at a time. That way you do a lot with buildings and there will be some big unit rushy shenanigans. You can also expand aggressively, or constantly skirmish. 5 Units, but ofc they can be any supply. This can apply to any race, tho it's hardest with zerg because of queens and zerglings. Good luck
Series suggestion: Spray and prey. First spray paint your friendly army with an anti armor missle, then prey on a big engagement while orange and disadvantaged
Five marines and a dream challenge. You can build anything else, but only 5 marines. You have to always be using and rebuilding your 5 marines. Not sure how that would work but maybe with a rush/cheese type of plan.
Base trade to grandmaster: To the best of your ability, try to avoid fighting their army and go for their base instead. If you want a hard rule, 1. Only units that have dealt damage to an enemy CC can engage with enemy troops. (Does not apply to non-combat oriented troops/detection/scouting units.)
Challenge idea #1: build everything! Limited to X supply (maybe 9? 12? 8 but round up?) of each unit. Challenge idea #2: copycat. Every game, use the race/build/strategy of your opponent from the previous game (no matter what matchup)
I think a High Templar challenge would be good. Trying to kill everyone with just psi storms would be interesting. Maybe you're allowed to merge a limited number of Archons.
The "OUR expansion" challenge where you take enemy's expansions instead of yours sounds great, prob natural is unlikely to succeed but 3rd should be possible (ofc natural is funnier). Then i'd wonder if it could be done for all races (as Terran has advantage of having PF and bunkers to hold base)
As terran I think it'd be super interesting to see you go for a turtle-expansion strategy: Take as many bases as possible, but all bases have to be defended as best as possible. Terran is really good at turtling, so what if you made terran bases with the complete philosophy that every single one is as relevantly turtled as possible?
With Zerg, try to make a large army, then position it close to the opponent's base (hidden), wait for the opponent to start his push (or at least bait him far way from the ramp), then attack his main (this is key: the opponent's army needs to be close enough to guaranty that he will retreat and defend), push the main ramp and immediately put 2 Nydus down at the back of his base, kill everything in the main, retreat through Nydus, gg, do not lose army, gl hf.
No idea if this is viable at all, but a challenge where you have to make 'x' of every type of unit before youre allowed to make more. So for example is you chose 5 for x then once you have 5 marines and reapers and then hellions etc. In whatever order you chose, then you aren't allowed to make a 6th of any army unit until you have 5 of each unit type. You could remove ravens and battlecruisers from the counted units if you chose. And start with 'x' being any number if you wanted. Obviously x = 1 would be the ultimate challenge, but I doubt that is even possible to pull off.
How about SCV/Mule/Medivac haha? You should at least try that! Mass Mule drops from 3-5+ orbitals, with Medivacs unloading dozens of SCVs as well. You could have defensive units, but they couldn't move out. If you won with that it would be so funny! Entertaining!
I've always wondered why people don't try bunkers in the attack or put barracks at the front when attacking. As in when a Terran is setting up a siege tank position outside the enemy base why not put bunkers and barracks for tanking and blocking enemy units. Would be cool to incorporate that into a series.
My suggestion would be a 'No Orbital' Challenge. Terran's rely heavily on orbitals for mules, supply drops, and scans. This would mean you're playing with a lower eco and no on demand detection making ravens and turrets more important.
Any chance you can do an "every unit to Grandmaster" Where the challenge is to build and use every unit for each race. You can then change your build order, try all sorts of things. The other challenge would be "no more than 5 of any non-gatherer unit at any 1 time" Force the micro (Zerglings might be an exception as they spawn in pairs)
New Terran strategy idea: Repair to grandmaster. You can only build units that can be repaired and you must always bring scvs with them when you attack. You can also make a planetary for an attack but must bring scvs.
Ultimate late game to gm. Only defend into you get the ultimate late game. Rules: have to split the map before you can attack. Ninja base to gm have to ninja every game no later than the 3rd. Cyclone reaper hellion to gm. No marines ever.
For your next challenge, how about an odd one: honesty to grandmaster. In other words, you have to tell your opponent what strategy you are going for ... and still try to win.
new challenge: Perfectly Balanced Composition: you're only allowed to have +1 of any tech lab unit type and +2 of any reactored unit type. Which means you have to get one of each unit before you're allowed to make another unit of the same type. So this means your second marauder is only buildable once you have 2 marines, 1 marauder, 1 ghost, 1 tank, two widow mines, 2 hellions, 2 cyclones, 1 banshee, 1 raven, 2 vikings, 2 medivacs and 1 battlecruiser.
I would like to see another speedrun to GM but this time you tally up all game time from your matches. This would also be cool as a challenge with some other player/s.
The Terran player was such a chad.
I think after the first nuke landed he knew he was so behind that the game was lost, and when he saw the last nukes (which I think were obvious btw) he sent his units for a glorified finish.

Good luck
Protoss challenge: "The Crusty Crab"- you can only make stalkers, immortals, and colossi. Plus the obvious exceptions of transports and detectors.
My favorite part of every Uthermal video is when he says ‘get fricked’
Series suggestion: Spray and prey.
First spray paint your friendly army with an anti armor missle, then prey on a big engagement while orange and disadvantaged
Epic. I'm surprised you didn't stop after the first game!
Five marines and a dream challenge. You can build anything else, but only 5 marines. You have to always be using and rebuilding your 5 marines. Not sure how that would work but maybe with a rush/cheese type of plan.
Base trade to grandmaster:
To the best of your ability, try to avoid fighting their army and go for their base instead.
If you want a hard rule,
Then i'd wonder if it could be done for all races (as Terran has advantage of having PF and bunkers to hold base)
the widow mine game
LMFAOOO
I was just laughing my ass off the wohle time
when he spammed pause/resume it just made it even better 🤣
"lets make sure I dont kill him with the hellion" 😭
Probably the best or at least top three video of any of your _______ to grandmaster challenges.
"Am I going to be on youtube?"
*Loses 90% of his army*
"Welp, now I definitely am"
I like to do that 20,000 mineral challenge before i defeat my enemies. Usually they quit lol.
My lord, those nukes were a complete punch right in the nads, lol!
Challenge suggestion.
Grounded Terran. No air units, no medvacs, no flying buildings. For added challange no orbital drops can be considered.
Hahah that first one was brutal!! Great game, and a great opponent!
Okay and the second one was a banger too.
factory only or barracks only or starport only or SCV only
With Zerg, try to make a large army, then position it close to the opponent's base (hidden), wait for the opponent to start his push (or at least bait him far way from the ramp), then attack his main (this is key: the opponent's army needs to be close enough to guaranty that he will retreat and defend), push the main ramp and immediately put 2 Nydus down at the back of his base, kill everything in the main, retreat through Nydus, gg, do not lose army, gl hf.
That Terran player hung in there for his UA-cam
time. That was awesome
massive nukes man, awesome match
twice even
No idea if this is viable at all, but a challenge where you have to make 'x' of every type of unit before youre allowed to make more.
That terran player, what a chad, I'm pretty sure he realized he was doomed and just stepped into the last nukes just for fun content hahaha
Damn that was an awesome level of nuke memery
Holy shit, your reaction to nuking his army was hilarious 😂
How about SCV/Mule/Medivac haha? You should at least try that! Mass Mule drops from 3-5+ orbitals, with Medivacs unloading dozens of SCVs as well. You could have defensive units, but they couldn't move out. If you won with that it would be so funny! Entertaining!
Fast liberator range harras or something involving liberators would be a fun challenge.
I've always wondered why people don't try bunkers in the attack or put barracks at the front when attacking. As in when a Terran is setting up a siege tank position outside the enemy base why not put bunkers and barracks for tanking and blocking enemy units. Would be cool to incorporate that into a series.
Mindgame to Grandmaster: Build a Proxy something + ensure to get scouted + at the same time build the counter to your proxy counter.
My suggestion would be a 'No Orbital' Challenge. Terran's rely heavily on orbitals for mules, supply drops, and scans. This would mean you're playing with a lower eco and no on demand detection making ravens and turrets more important.
OHMYGOD. The nukes at 14:54 were insane. Poor guy...
In other words, you have to tell your opponent what strategy you are going for ... and still try to win.
i like the idea, but i think it would be considered BM :(
❤ Awesome. The energy you give to us is priceless. Much love and keep at it ❤❤❤
That dude in the middle sure did reap the whirlwind 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
new challenge: Perfectly Balanced Composition: you're only allowed to have +1 of any tech lab unit type and +2 of any reactored unit type.
Watching armies get nuked is possibly my favorite thing
So much nukes you're now in a government watchlist
I would like to see another speedrun to GM but this time you tally up all game time from your matches. This would also be cool as a challenge with some other player/s.
