    I actually wouldn't suggest people buy major items for their avatar like a head and body right away. What I often find is that people will be in a hurry to buy something without understanding what they want or the different products available, and end up wasting money because they were in a rush to get hot. Do some research, do a LOT of demoing. Demo everything and get a look you like before you buy anything. THEN go and buy just those items you ended up using for your final look. I can't tell you how many times I have seen a new person complain because they bought an expensive item like a head or body, which they probably didn't demo or didn't play around with enough to be sure they liked it, only to realize it wasn't what they wanted and now they have to buy another one.

    12 years ago when I came In World I was given this advice, so I'll pass it on. 3 things to remember 1) Real People, 2) Real Emotions, 3) Real Money. Keep those 3 things safe and you'll be good to go. What bugs me about people that talk about SL is that they refer to it as a GAME, SL if far from being a game.

      Technically it is a game but can be much more than just a game. Just depends on how you "play" the game.

    There' some great tips as that gentleman said: treat each other with respect we're real people behind these avatars and it's something people fail to remember at times. My advice would be; Go slow you dont need to lean everything in 1 day or your gonna over whelm yourself. Learn your UI and all the basic things first movements and teleporting and if your not too shy talk to people they will offer you tips on how to move forward. Someone else said go top tier straight away, i agree, don't waste money on bodies and heads that aren't being created for. Another tip is shop on weekend sales and 50L fridays to start you off you'll find plenty of things to update your avatar and save money in the process. Hope this helps anyone starting their Second Life journey. And don't forget have fun! that's what it's all about. :)

    The story of the girl under the bridge didn't go how I expected to, nor did I expect it to end up being that relatable! Once you get used to it, it's fine, but the inventory system is quite a wall for new people! I hope she wasn't TOO embarrassed!
    I'm not new to SL, but I have been peeking back at it every once in a while. I used to roleplay all over the place on the internet, but I don't have the energy to do it anymore. If I were to return to SL, it would be helpful to know of some good places to go to that are friendly to avatars of all types and newcomers. I'm thinking similar to world features that people make for VRC or Resonite, but with a focus on where the people are. I spent a lot of money on an avatar back in the day, but outside of the pandora roleplays i was in back in the day, i stick out like a sore thumb being super tall and blue haha, it would be good to know of some places that I could go in with "stranger" avatars, because most of what i see nowadays are very human and much like in VR I like to use tech to look and do what I can't in a human body.

      I found it amusing that a naked avatar would hide under a bridge, assuming they wouldn't be seen. I suppose I might have done the same, although being naked in Second Life in 2006 is certainly different from being naked in 2024… 🤣

      Hey Spin :D There are a bunch of places where you can be who you are =) Usually a bit more fantasy themed places. Biweekly on sunday there are live shows at BeSpoke. BeSpoke is a fantasy mesh head store and you would feel right into place at those events. They are really fun and people come in all different shapes and sizes. Yesterday there was a crocodile and i have seen people come in as a tiny little bird. The owner walks around as a potato in a suit, it's amazing! Give it a try :D Next time it's the 21st of July =) Usually starts at 2pm SLT.

    This video clearly has an agenda lol. I wish there was that many people in second life who are " just being themselves " but there's not . Almost everyone in second life is subconsciously role playing as the person they wish they were , rather than who they actually are . They ARE playing a game and when their negative traits form rl bleed into second life , they re roll and try again as someone else. Then repeat .

      No doubt there are a lot of awful people in SL. Their ugly personalities show through no matter how pretty the avatar is. Same goes for real life. We all have to weed out the real and the fake. Sadly, that means getting burned sometimes.

    Second life is dying in 2024. they are losing users by score. and the stats in 2024 reflect this. its time for people to stop living in denial of this simple fact. a year ago it was 45k now your lucky if it breaks the 35k mark at peak hours. i logged on at 8am sl time and there were only 23k in users. In my opinion I honestly don't believe second life will reach its next mile stone of 22 years. Its old and its outdated. there hasn't been an influx of new people joining since 2012. most of the avatars in sl you look at their profiles 90% or higher are from 10 yr. old accounts or older. many users stretching back as far as 16 or 17 years old. which are from accounts back dated to 2007 when second life had its highest influx of users join. most of us know why sl is dying .it's the greed of LL'S and its content creators. thats the #1 reason. it costs over 200 a month just to own a sim thats built on outdated tech from 1998 its super aged. LL'S is so greedy they still actually charge its users to take inworld photo's and still charges upload fees. Not to mention the hostile people that use second life. It can be very toxic in sl. If you never heard of sl and thinking of joining it...Dont! run away steer clear of it.

    Great video and explains a lot 👍but.....I am not sure why people call Second Life "a game" as a game has the leveling up and things you have to do to get there, but in Second Life you are free to roam around and do what ever you like and to meet other people and be social hence Second Life is a Virtual social world. The only "game" thing about SL is there is games inside this virtual world that you can play. 💯💖😎😀😀

    • @secondlifespectrum
      @secondlifespectrum  2 місяці тому +2

      I enjoy using the word "platform" when I talk about SL, but I know many folks relate better to "game." Everyone has their own reasons for joining SL, and for some, it's just a fun "game like the Sims but online." I've stopped trying to debate that Second Life isn't a game quite a while ago.

    My advice to those whom are curious or new users is when it comes to SL and your avatar, it is about investment and whether you want to. Not just time but as well financially. As well do not be afraid to ask other residents on where and how. There is such a learning curve in SL that it often makes new users frustrated and make them quit. I know I did on my 1st day. But I took a breather and took the time and well. . .user since 2006. You do the math 🤣😅 Granted my time over the years spent in SL has fluctuated to where I hardly log in as much, maybe once a week. . . if that. But RL does always come first.

    I was a nobody when I first joined SL during the Great Recession of '08-'10 (when I had time to kill). I grew my avatar into a sexy male model with paid gigs thereby. I also built stuff .. had a lover .. and all that. I was wowed by the other avies when I first started (and ignored by them). By the end, I was the hottie avie being courted by the avies I originally thought I'd never meet.
    But then, the Recession was over and I had to go back to RL... without announcing my departure (as that was the etiquette in my circles).
    15 Years later, I fear logging in and finding my avie will be seen as a throwback .. a joke. I would spend money to update my game ... henceforth. But do I really want to? They charge you for photos? wtf? What other idiocracies will I encounter? Ugh. For now, I will stay safe in RL and just wonder - if and when I'd ever revisit my old, extensive inventories... and strangeness therein.

    😂 there’s 30k people at max at any given time on that game anymore and that’s including alts that people use for spam and scams. Normal people largely make fun of and consider that game a joke and its player base is a lot of over serious , self entitled, inexperienced at life, and elderly people who are literally dating virtually 🤡. The most popular content is videos of people trolling the weirdos on that platform and that’s a fact
