I played this song on the flute for a friend’s funeral as requested by her last week. I decided to play this song as it is always a spiritual for me. I was asked to play as the casket went down into the ground so I didn’t want to choose a song that was too emotional but a song that made me and hopefully others feel like we transcended to eternity. Gabriel’a Oboe was the one. Thank you for your beautiful music and video ❤

Omg, I've never heard that instrument before. You play it so beautifully, and years I could feel the tears starting. I mean my favorite is the Oboe, and until now I didn't think anything else came close. But after you play this its a really close 2nd instrument wise, but your playing is first rate.

I want to share my story
When I was in the belly of my mother (RIP) she used to make me listen the soundtrack of the movie "The mission" over and over. Amongst this soundtrack, there was "Gabriel's oboe". I remember when she told me that when I was 1 year old, she put on the radio that song. Just immediately, I went crawling all the way from my craddle to that stereo and I remained listening to the whole soundtrack.
Time passed. I was 14 and I started studying flute. One of the songs I learned at first from ear was this. My first performance ever was in the church. My mother ended up in tears. I was a rather shy guy. But then this song became my signature song: it's my favorite one, not only because of what it means, but also because I can convey what my soul feels, together with a sonority technique learned at Conservatory.
Regarding to the performance, I don't like when it's in the higher octave. I play it in a medium register because it sounds expresively. But still it's a masterpiece.

Well played :-) You got some beautiful tones out of your flute. Have you ever thought of playing numbers like these with a baroque flute? It's a great instrument for this sort of song. While it may lack in the power and the range of a modern flute it is sweeter and subtler in tone. Just sayin!!! .......Hᴜɢʜ….…..ツ
