Solving for Ikea bed slats that fall off the rails

- Ikea beds use wooden slats to support the mattress. Any lateral (sideways) movement of the mattress causes the slats to move as well. The edges of the slats come off the side rails causing them to hang or fall off, not providing any support and consequently the mattress sags. Here is a simple solution to secure the slats to the edges using Velcro strips (hooks and loops) with adhesive backing. Remember - the loops / fuzzy side goes on the rails; the hooks go on the slat edges. This prevents the slats from moving and you can now enjoy your Ikea bed for many more years!
Thank you for this suggestion - I ordered Velcro strips immediately after watching this video, installed them the same day, my bed slats haven’t moved since. This was months ago. Cost effective and super easy to implement. 10/10. Saved us from buying a brand new bed frame.
Thank you for sharing this idea. I have been annoyed by the slats on my bed for longer than I care to admit and last night I put Velcro on all the slats and it was like a new bed.
Thank you so much! We were swearing and about ready to buy a different bed. We fixed my daughter’s bed and I could finally vacuum under the bed and change her bed sheets without the bed falling apart. Everytime I tried to clean her room it took all day because the bed fell apart. Not anymore! Thank you for the excellent idea 🎉🎉🎉
For all of the design innovations Ikea has I cant fathom how they don't have a better design for this slat system which is a feature in virtually EVERY bed frame they sell. I have put together a lot of ikea furniture and this is the single biggest frustration I have with Ikea.
They had a much better option where the slats were secured into a silicone frame and therefore couldn’t go anywhere, but they stopped selling it
@@maggiekazmer2919do you know if they sell it now again?
These slats are trash, I was better off with my homemade wooden slats for 2 years but i had a problem with the actual bed so I bought everything new and now the slats are sliding through. Hope this bed holds through the night and this solution works tomorrow.
Great solution for someone who doesn't want to use a drill (or doesn't know how, rather). Thank you!
Thank you for making this video!! I’ve been struggling with the bed slats shifting for a month and all the solutions people had seemed to involve drills and screws. I couldn’t do this because I live in an old apartment complex and the downstairs neighbors complain about the noise. You made this so simple and easy! I was skeptical about the Velcro but after I used it my bed felt solid again! I can’t believe all it needed to stay was some grip, which is what the Velcro provides.
I can't believe how bad the design of these bedframes is. Only reason I have one is someone gave it to me, and I want to throw the entire thing away but don't feel like disassembling it again.
yesss same I am fedup too!they keep falling!
Same, and I’m moving in 6 weeks so I don’t want to make it a PITA to disassemble and I don’t want to buy, assemble and then shortly disassemble, move, reassemble a new bed. Not sleeping well though....
Likewise. Our house was sold furnished. We gave away three Ikea beds, but kept the King for ourselves. I'm regretting it, but this looks like an easy solution. We were using wooden dowels to prevent the slats from sliding inward, but it didn't last very long.
Brian Preble i’ve the same problem, my bed is a king and my back hurts so much from trying to re arrange the slats every time they fall because the mattress is so heavy! did the velcro straps help you?
You, Sir, are a hero. My bed is so secure now with your quick, easy, and effective fix. :)
You're a clever man! Thank you! Everytime someone sits on my bed, I hear them slide off the rails and I cringe inside! Lol
So glad I carried on scrolling to find this video. Brilliant idea - going to order my velcro now.
OMG, I’m off to Lowes now- thank you!!!
Thank you so much! This is exactly the problem I have with the IKEA bed I bought. Will try this!
Thank you for the video. Ikea need to change the design.
Your help has been 👌.
Good idea, just assembled a slat bed which was quite flimsy looking. I will try your idea.
Your a genius just tried this now hopefully it works
Brilliant idea! Works perfect for me. Thanks so much!
IKEA should sort out this annoying issue or supply the Velcro no??
They did have a velcro slat option at IKEA but there are apparently issues with the supplier. The luroy slats are the absolutely worst!
GENIUS! Thanks so much.
Thanks, definitely going to try this.
Nice one! Trying this out today 😎
You are a genius! Thanks :D
Brilliant. Thank you. I will try it.
These slats have pissed me off so bad
Thks you saved my life!!
Genius!!!! Thank you
God bless you abundantly 🙏🏽
thumbs down > 42 secs in vertical pix??? l a n d s c a p e !!
horizontal video geeez voice? pOOr bye
permanenta!
Thank you so much, you made it so easy
Yup, I was also disappointed by the design of these slats. After looking at different options I went with this suggestion and it worked great on our king size bed. Thank you!
Just use zip ties to keep the rails together with the metal frame
Thanks for this suggestion. It's impossible to use the small screws that come with the rails. Thanks again
Thank you so much for this idea! I was trying to change my son’s sheets in the middle of the night and the slats fell through and every time I’d adjust one side, the other would fall through. Not what I want to deal with at 1:30am 😅
I currently have this bed and it just sucks.
Thank you so much for you brilliant and easy solution. We did this today -the slats don’t move. Awesome. Nice to have a well engineered solution that works. You might share this idea with ikea design team.
Maybe this would help someone: I was gonna use velcro but i ended up just joining the slats together in the middle with duct tape effectively making the two separate slats into one long slat, and thats keeping them from falling. Not permanent but works in a pinch.
My bed isn’t ikea but the slats still fall off. Thanks for the idea.
You are a genius! I was going to get some epoxy or cement strength glue and see if that would work because I’m sick of the corners of my bed falling through every week, but think I’ll try the Velcro way first. I’m sure my cats will thank you too because they won’t have to witness me becoming an angry mob threatening to use my bed as firewood all the time lol.
I super glued mine
this is just outrageous we pay over $400 for a bed that breaks? i mean this shouldn’t even be a problem why am i trying to figure out how to fix this bed instead of ikea like wtf
It always amazes me how a furniture maker isn't able to make furniture that would last and function as it should.
Oh my god, this is such an easy fix. You sir, are such a genius, thank you so much for this!
I assume this hack would work on all slat beds having similar problem with our but it's not from IKEA??
You sir, are a genius...! This has just fixed our bed slats perfectly & quickly. Many thanks for sharing.
This is genius!
Thank you for the idea 💡
How long did that actually last for you?
Would have been better if you had demonstrated it
Worked for me. Thank you so much
This helped me massively! Thanks!
Great solution thanks a lot 🤲🕋😎
thank you so much Sir
Thank you sir.
STEVEN FOR PRESIDENT 👏👏👏👏
I don’t know how to properly thank you but it’s been months that I can’t sit or sleep on my bed without it falling through. You are A GEM. I keep jumping on my bed to test it out and it has not fallen through. THANK YOU SIR AND THANK YOU TO WHOEVER INVENTED VELCRO.
Thanks!
Going to try this. My son’s bed does this almost every day and it’s the most annoying thing!!! IKEA should be fixing this problem as clearly it’s a design flaw. Thank you for this tip. I’ll give it a go because the other option is throwing the thing out.
thank you dad!
I bought a long stick and wedged it between the slats in the middle - problem solved.
You are a genius! Thank you for the hint. I was only able to do the outside rails for now as the strips from the Dollar store were not long enough.
I know its been a while since this video was posted but asking a question in case someone is able to see and help me. Would it be possible to use this technique on curved/sprung slats? I noticed that the slats in the video are curved @stevenfernandes8147
THANK YOU
Steven, thank you so much for this video.
I have an older IKEA bed, and all the slats started to fall through.
They are fixed, and I cannot thank you enough.
Désirée
Cut a sheet of plywood to cover the whole bed or as much as possible if huge. Can screw into the slats. No problem ever again. May need to make big holes in plywood for air to circulate.
Amazing video!! I did this years ago and it lasted quite some time but now I’ve started having the issue again because my Velcro strips won’t stick as well anymore. Time to repeat! Lol
So simple yet so affective, I couldn't find slat holders to fit my new wooden slats and you've solved my problem.thankyou so much!!!!
Thank you so much, I really didn't want to screw the slats down or ad a board this was such a simple solution. It's so much easier to get the mattress on and off without messing up the slate now as well so that's an added bonus to not having a sagging mattress.
That will work. Good suggestion.
Brilliant, elegant, and simple. Thank you!
Ty
thank you, struggled with this issue for almost 3 years ,was about to throw the bed frame ... one last google search ended up here ..rest is history ...
Thank you! Zinus beds actually come like this. I don’t know why ilea has such poor design.
oh wow! I've always hated these slat supported beds never thought to use velcro. Thanks
Thank you! Thank you! This has been driving me absolutely nuts for years now.
I’ve been battling with this, thank you so much, really, thank you !!!!!!!
Do you still
Need the support brackets underneath the slats ? Or can this trick be used without needing those ?
Saved my dang day!!!! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
Sir, you are a godsend. Such a simple solution. THANK YOU
I’ve just tried this, hopefully it’ll work! Looks like a great idea, thanks for sharing
Thanks .. we just did it .. hope it works .. thanks 😊
Thanks we did it!
Thank you for the tip. It saved my life 👌
I have just put the velcro on the bed. Very happy 😊
This is genius! Thanks for posting this!
THANK YOU!! This is perfect!!
Thanks for these good advice.😊
Thanks for the awesome tip.
If I put screws wold that help?
thats a simple solution, good job
this absolutely works
You’re a real one for this
So simple, so genius, thank you!
you're my hero thank you
Perfect solution thanks!
Sir! Thank you!
