I have an AMAZING 3yr old disabled son. Everytime he hears this song he smiles & lifts his hands above his head like he's flying. He is My HERO cause he's strong, smart, loving & just a Great kid. ETHAN DADDY LOVES YOU
I WILL NEVER FORGET IN 1978 WE SAW SUPERMAN AT THE CHINESE THEATER IN HOLLYWOOD. MAN WHAT A TREAT CHRISTOPHER REEVE MARGOT KIDDER WERE MORE THAN PERFECT FOR THEIR ROLES. ALSO JOHN WILLIAMS DID AN EXCELLENT JOB WITH THE SCORE. R.I.P MR. REEVES AND MISS KIDDER.
The one, the only, the TRUE Superman theme. It's perfect. Literally PERFECT! To use anything else is a disgrace to the character and to the man who composed this glorious masterpiece ❤
“Without John Williams, bikes don't really fly, nor do brooms in Quidditch matches, nor do men in red capes,. There is no Force, dinosaurs do not walk the Earth, we do not wonder, we do not weep, we do not believe.” - Steven Spielberg about John Williams
I see all the comments about Christopher Reeves and you are all 10000000000% correct. No Superman ever played after or before can touch that brilliant man of steel.
I'd give some credit to George Reeves, the original TV-series Superman. (BTW, it's "Christopher Reeve", the second S goes on his chest, not his last name :P).
The current generation has missed out on this classic gem. This theme exemplifies Superman's character he is there to give hope and inspire people to be their best.
I can never hear this epic piece of without seeing Christopher Reeve taking flight over the Earth and breaking out into that smile. Also makes me tear up to realize that he is gone. Christopher will live on in out heart however. Henry Cavill, however, is 'Super- b' as Christopher Reeve's successor but can never replace him. John Williams score literally sings out "Superman" with those classic notes when the S logo appears on screen. Epic stuff!! The premier and greatest superhero of them all.
Superman (1978)’s poster tag line was “You’ll Believe that a Man can Fly”, well this theme certainly made us all believe that! Simply one of John Williams’ all-time greatest musical scores ever!
Same here, exactly the same my mother used Superman as a babysitter I wouldn’t move if she put it on whilst ironing lol from when it came out all through 80’s the greatest superhero of all time I’m obsessed with superman now I don’t think anyone can beat this movie
I encounter Superman cartoons and comic books and commentary. They make a lot of noise about Superman being this ultimate ideal of justice, and for the most part, the media I'd encountered over the years just rings rotten and false. Then I hear this soundtrack, and holy crap does it all ring true. This is glorious.
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere. To endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” - Christopher Reeve Thank you, John Williams. Thank you, Christopher Reeve!
Even after a catastrophic injury, he kept fighting until the end..makes me love and admire him all the more..I miss this guy..truly a Superman!! RIPH CHRISTOPHER AND DANA REEVE!!
First two movies made at same time are epic,,even the behind the scenes pictures!! the third with Richard Prior is a charming comedy but still very good!
I can tell you the combanation of the build up of this masterpiece at the end of superman with Christopher Reeves looking away then looking into the camera and smiles is the most explosion of emotions that any thing in the history of tv can't compare too.... the goosebumps alone are on another level
Christopher handled such an awful injury with such dignity.....I can't hear this song without tears in my eyes ,and surely that was the whole point of the score.....to make us believe in heros.....and he was just that.
+LENTO VIOLENTO Agreed 100%. If one could bring a comic book drawing to life it would look like Christopher Reeve. In this case obviously the Superman character. He looked THAT close to the comic book drawings. Almost as if they based the drawings from CR's portrayal. He had the eyes and bone structure. The needed "good guy could do no wrong" looks. Tall enough at I think 6'2. If anything (very minor criticism) he could have bulked up a little...but movie stars never really did any bodybuilding except Steve Reeves (who played Hercules I think in the late 50''s)...who was actually a champion bodybuilder of his time.
Hey Anderson. Did you know that CR DID bulk up for his role as Superman? He was trained for 6 weeks by David Prowse. The guy that played Darth Vader in the first 3 Star Wars movies. The guy in the suit, Not the voice. Prowse was a champion bodybuilder in the 1960's. CR was real skinny before that. Check out the movie "Gray Lady Down" to see how thin he really was. And I agree with your assessment of CR as the definitive Superman 100%.
Ever since I was a kid, whenever I hear the name "Superman", this is the song that plays in my head. It encompasses EVERYTHING Superman is: Bravery, Truth, Justice and Hope!
I’m 43 and this still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. I just want to leap to my feet and cheer. What a stirring and triumphant piece of music.
This rendition is by far the most majestic sounding since John Williams original score from the 1978 soundtrack... And trust me, I've heard 'em all. A tip of hat & a toast of Bollinger Champagne to Maestro Debney and the RSNO.... Well done!!
Whenever I hear this theme, I think of Superman catching Lois Lane in the middle of a free fall and says... "Excuse me miss. I've got you. (Lois) You've got me? Who's got YOU?!" Christopher was, is and will always be Superman.
I still get goosebumps when I hear this! I always imagine myself as the man of steel saving the day. I truly will always admire Superman as the kind of man that I have always tried to live being. Honest and true, care for the well-being of others. I know it sounds stupid, but at 40 years old is still the 5 year old in me who will never fail to uphold this.
Just to say when was told i had cancer a few years back, going to the treatments my wife would play this over an over for me! saying I`ts going get pumped up to get through! Listening to it would get me hyped up an not afraid! 8 years free!! Thank GOD,an my SUPERWIFE an John Williams!
While there have been incredible opening themes to movies, this one stands alone and always will. Soaring to great heights and lower depths, it never fails to inspire. Thank you, John Williams!
When I make up my mind, grit my teeth and my ears go back, this plays in my head. That's when I plow the road toward whatever I'm going after. RIP Christopher Reeve. You are Superman.

As a Man of Steel (2013) fan and of the Zimmer´s theme, i gotta say that Richard Donner´s Superman 1 and 2 are what the Man of Tomorrow really is. Hell, even Superman Returns deserves credit just for being a direct sequel to Superman 2. This theme is imortal.

This should be used for EVERY Superman movie! Because when you hear it, you know it's Superman. This score is as iconic as the character himself
