Thanks man. I would pass on this one for sure. I’m hoping Vitavon will make the gearboxes/bulkheads if he does then this thing will get a lot of run and fun time. I have a brand new Holmes 2100kv motor for it and an esc on the way but I’m simply not going to waste much more time on this one.

Well the manufacturers are run by people who have hypersonic missiles aimed out our countries, and have crumbled international manufacturing, down to the private citizen's ip. They also kill scientists warning about pandemics, because it makes beijing "look bad" - as if invading Hong Kong and Taiwan..arming kim jung um, and now doubling their Nuclear Stockpile to 800+ and hacking Militaries in countries arround the world, then copying their designs isn't enough. They even exploded real nuclear bombs some months ago, but no environmentalists say anything and they cause 30% of the worlds pollution. They try and hide everything, by any means necessary. Look it up, because you will never see someone saying this stuff.
The issue is that's a 3s platform and the tires are oversized . I currently have the Tenacity DB pro and sct pro , no issues. When I saw the lazernut I thought it would have the 8ight diffs and drivetrain. Awesome rig but it should have been built on the 1/8 platform instead of an 3s 😎
It's a 4s though. If you go 3s you need to change the pinion to a lower tooth. My buddy has one and did all the prep work with the diffs and changed the pinion to run 3s today and it ran perfect through 4 packs. I don't think a lot of people are having this issue.

Bought it expecting it to break, do my own mods with different manufacturers parts. Umm, it never broke or bent a drive shaft?! Just as surprised as all the commenters. Only run 4S it drives so much different then any rc I have. LOVE IT!

So I took mine out 4s, tried to break it. I can’t even bend a axle. I think you got a bad one.
I've had mine just over a month and can't get 1 battery pack through it without something failing. First it was the RR wheel nut coming off and stripping the wheel hex, then just the other day both rear axles bent and one of the front king pins for the front bearing carrier came out. I really want to like this buggy since it handles and drives great when its actually working correctly. I'd stay away from this one until Losi decides to acknowledge that its a lemon and does right by the people who bought them.

I was able to put five packs through my Lasernut... haven't been able to drive it now for almost a month... waiting for warranty parts.
Had the same issue with the rear bearing. Also ruined a tire (and really screwed up another) as the right rear tire keeps spinning off when put under any real friction pressure (a donut on grass). I had it working ok with a replacement bearing and the "bad" tire (that still worked a bit) when a front CVD just BROKE. Now it's shelved.
I was SO STOKED for this vehicle, now it's just disappointment; especially when I see that I'm having the same issues as everyone else. Rear Diff bearings, right rear tire, broken drive shafts... and I haven't even really gotten it out of my yard yet. I was hoping that it was just the grass that was too much for it... that maybe with these super grip tires you just need to make sure you keep it on a loose surface (especially on 3s) but now, seeing this video, it looks like that might not even be the problem. This thing is just under spec'd. Now, of course, Horizon has NO PARTS for it and I'm just sitting here... waiting...
I have lasernut and till now i havent any problem. Im using 3s battery by Spectrum. But its true that driveshafts are weak, one of rear shaft is already bend.
i blew rear end. 6 axles 3 striped wheels engine and a lot of others were falling out no threadlock i spent another 200 i ran 2 batteries on flat ground im done i also never ran a battery without breaking the owner of my shop sent photos to rep showing it’s in like new condition im done i pre paid for this due to liking it horizon i sit on phone 45 minutes to here they have seen no problems i also bought mini t bought brushless and shocks and b44 team car i spent 3500 in 3 weeks and i brought lasernut next day broke and got charged for parts i f i had a customer who walks in w thousands i would do something for them this will never be what was described to be im going to run it over w my car i ran a battery 1they should have never released it yet
I like the rock rey better I got like a 1 and million version that losi put out it was a monster energy edition and no one I know can even find a trace of it but it is right I mean I got it brand new out of the box but that thing on 3s is unbelievable

Ceramic won’t add any strength. I do however have a special bearing that probably will hold up. I will send you a few to try out.
Really? I’d LOVE to give that a try. I’ll get a new rear case ordered so there’s no possibility of damaged case.

That was my first thought, that ceramic won't help here but there are other exotics that might. This platform aside, I am keen to see how that special bearing holds up under Exocaged's throttle finger.
They should of built this off the 8 platform 4s is too much for the 1/10 axles hubs and bearing
Yup, fortunately that is what Team Associated did and from what I have heard the Nomad is a beast.
Mines running good. I have not broken any shafts on 4s. I did shim the center diff and put 30k diff oil and it’s been working great. I did order a bunch of spare parts and have not had to use any yet. Maybe I just got lucky. I am running on loose dirt with a couple of small jumps.

I love love love my Lasernut post upgrades, but yeah. Durability is getting annoying. I'm on 3s as well. Had my first drivetrain problem yesterday- the two screws holding the motor mount in disappeared during a run and the... what's it called, spur gear? The big one touching the pinion?... shredded. Gah!
Wow if that’s been your only issue then you’re doing way better than I am.
First drivetrain problem! I had driveshafts, wheels, and a steering problem.
I’m tempted to tear down the diffs and rebuild them while waiting on that gear, but it seems more advanced than I’m up for.

Almost did not buy this because of all the bad reviews. Stock, I only run 4S and love love love it! Not the fastest not the slowest. It drives different then any rc I have, “all of them” no need for ceramic bearing. This isn’t a 1500 hp turbonetics turbo build. If I run into an issue, ill share my fixes. Love the car!
Damn man this sucks, I can't believe how many problems you have had with this truck. The idiots at Losi do NO product testing before release. You don't want to know how much money I have into my Rock Rey lol.

I have the same damn problem. I bought the first one sold at the hobby store I got it from. I actually had to wait 2 weeks before I could take it home. It broke both front half shafts and apparently the rear bearing is shot also. I figured that out after watching your video. I went with 4s so I now know why it is doing so poorly.
Any updates on the Laser nut U4? Ive been looking for a nice 4x4. 1:10 scale vehicle and the U4 was on my short list until seeing this video. Holding off for now.
Yeah. I’ve got the Vitavon stuff in and I’m working on it now. Should be done in a few days. At minimum, get there rear bulkhead/diff case. It’s needed.

I really like the Losi brand but I am put off a bit by the inconsistencies across the trucks. I guess any truck could have issues though. Torn between the DBXL E 2.0 and the SBR 2.0 right now 🤔

Hey, in all honesty sometimes you just have to tell it like it is. Pass or fail. I appreciate your honest review of the Lazernut and others. I was on the verge of buying a Lazernut but have decided to postpone it until 2.0 if it isn't discontinue because of the problems a lot of people are having with it out of the box.
My lasernut had the same problem with the back Bearing I have also had problems with the lag in the esc thanks for your videos it really helped
I did the Vitavon rear bulkhead and the problem is gone, he uses a larger bearing.

The one good thing they used to have going for them, before Traxxas became big, is their super smooth shocks. All Losi's are now is a bunch of thin-walled plastic, with some looks and a $500 price tag ! Cheap ! So, I feel bad for anyone who buys a "Loo-zer". I always been an A.E. fan.
Any-hoo...I would throw it in a garbage bag and drop it on the counter you picked it up from ! DEMAND (your money) back !!
That is B.S. that they have the audacity to put out a product like that, and then require $500 for it.
Sad brother, I hope HORIZON is not planning on continuing this "loozer-nut" until they revise production -OR straight pull it from the shelves !! Uncalled for, they had to have tested this before release.

I have to agree my only losi was the biggest pos everytime I took it out I broke something including completely snapping the whole chassis in half twice on small hits.
What's odd to me is that my friends new lasernut we brought out today wasm't that....loud....on 3s. I'm talking about the motor whine. It was smooth and very quiet lol

I seem to have sorted mine thankfully.
Shock travel limiters and droop screws all round,drive shafts I borrowed from my spare Db pro,ten scte diff gears in the centre diff,better quality bearings front and rear pinions (the losi ones are crap)
Re-shimmed the pinions and ring gears front and rear and swapped out the crap servo.
Must have had 15+ 4s 100c packs through it now with no breakage.
Before this mine was exactly like yours!!!

I bought one expecting it to self distrust. It’s one of my favorite rc’s. 4s stock all day. If I run into an issue? I will share the upgrades. I have almost every Arrma traxxas and old school cars out there. I just bought a son of a digger and this in carbon fiber. LOVE IT! Always tune with program box. I did keep my punch level low. 1-2 and still wheelies when I want it to but stays on the ground. Maybe that’s the secret, leave punch low. It still feels like punch is at 5. Absorbs curbs and rocks like there not there. And made me appreciate having bright lights. Only rc I drive in the dark.

Your right about a good set of lights when you get a good set it is a blast driving at night I have the db tenacity and the Baja Rey both great set of lights I do have the dbxle2.0 but the light bar was smoking when I got it waiting on warranty to blast it at night but really keen on your experience with the lasernut 👍
@@thomasthetankengine7153 great car but you need to Buy the Tekno axles. The stock ones are tooth picks. PART # TKR2210X if you buy one, and need help, request a video. I have no problem making a how to. It drives different, like a cloud over bumps and hills. If it was junk I would have been more upset to see them put garbage axles in. Have a great one!!!

Wow well they all cant be winners right? Also i got my Xmaxx brother!! Green 8s with 2 50c 9000mah venom 4s packs! Boy were they expensive but supposedly they are worth it for super long run times even at full 8s bashing so we will see!! 👍

Nice!! I’m waiting on a set of the 9000mah PowerHobby batteries for mine. The DBXLE 2.0 pulls so hard with the 6gs radio reading batteries it pulls the Turnigy 4S down to LVC for 3S! I’m hoping for the best with the bigger batteries.

My rear pinion bearing went out as well on my lasernut, luckily I had some spares and noticed before the diff casing was destroyed. Horizon sent out replacement diff casing for front, center, an rear, front and rear ring & pinion, and all new bearings. Great product support, but I agree this is an engineering issue and will occur again after another dozen packs or so.
Thanks for being honest. I really like the look of the truck and wanted one, but I am new to this hobby and it seems like i can spend my money better on a different truck.

This whole series of cars is based off the old SCTE/TenT which was a tank of a short course truck back in the day and National champion it was available as both electric and Nitro somehow over the years it’s evolved into this poor quality product. I still might consider buying race spec stuff under the TLR brand but I’ve been done with LOSI for a while now
Your videos are honest reviews, and not just advertisements....I had to subscribe. You just saved me $479 in 5:33 minutes. I think pushing those BIG tires around is a lot of work for those components.........maybe, your opinion?
Thank you. Yeah they didn’t upgrade anything to handle 3S much less 4S AND big tires. Total flop. I do however have mine running strong now but it’s got a bunch of Vitavon stuff on it to make it do so.
@@ExocagedRC Sucks, you had to put so much money into it for such little play time. Cool rig though. I’ll just stick with my Losi DB Pro until somebody makes a rock racer that doesn’t break down soo much from moderate use.
This is what it’s about. People testing them on here and then people get real results of vehicles. So definitely not a fail!

It’s only parts to them, if they really wanted this to be a top vehicle they would have had independent testers test it out before final production began. Or just built it off the ebuggy platform.
i believed the BS marketing and bought one. and broke it 10 minutes later. fixed it, broke it again in a different place. complete waste of money, that thing is a glass cannon, with no replacement parts anywhere. legit had to substitute traxxas parts just to get it rolling again...
Same thing here man. I’ve spent way more on Vitavon to make it durable than I spent on the car itself.

Drove mine once. Steering is aweful. Seems like the servo saver is the issue but I’ll put a strong servo in it for the heck of it. I only ran 4s. Just feels like it will break easy like everything else I have that is made by horizon hobby. At least I have several Traxxas vehicles to play with after the other stuff breaks.
Yeah tighten the stock bellcrank up with a better servo and you should be good. The rest of the car is another story..

I had the same kind of issues with the proline pro mt4x4. I had it for 6 months and put 4 packs through it. Kept breaking every time i took it out. Maybe i got a lemon, maybe you did as well. 🤷♂️ but i really dont reccomend them to anyone
I had a Pro MT and it was awesome. I had the Proline Fusion and it just wasn’t as good.
@@ExocagedRC yep. First run, about 4 trigger pulls in with a 3s system i blew the center diff to powder. Fast forward a month trying to get parts and waiting for backorders, get the parts and put it together, snapped the shock tower off the front bulkhead. Wait another month.. it was stupid... the pro mt was basically a slash and those damn things are Cockroaches 😂 but they went like stink around a track.

Great job covering the U4. This is an older video and I wonder if Losi changes something on the design. I just bought 2 a few mons ago and the drive trains are holding up just fine on 3s or 4s. I probably don't bash as hard as you but I'm always heavy on the throttle.
I just got my U4 delivered and come across seen this video so what Will the best bet to get it back in shape before I take it out for the first rips. TIA

That's too bad that it breaks quite often, and you aren't even hard on it. To me the hobby is supposed to be relaxing, and I would have anxiety every time I took that rig out. Granted breakage happens on anything, that's way too much. Hopefully you get it straightened out. 👍

Did you change the pinion to accommodate to 3s? The pinion it comes with installed from the factory is set for 4s because of the tire size to gearing ratio.
I actually put on a 16t for this.
@@ExocagedRC oh wow, thats good. Mine has had the turn buckle break about the first week of running it hard. Replaced it and have not had issues with anything else so far. Sorry you've had a bad experience with yours man.
Must be secretly a Fiat with the reliability issues. My uncle has a Lasernut that has had transfer case issues and wheels flying off
I guess I got lucky I have been running it on 4s probably 15 full packs in haven't had any diff issues or wheels falling off or spun hexes only thing I have done was add a fan to the motor put the 16t pinion on and put 500k fluid in the center diff
I was nearly going to pull the buy now lever....when....sigh...bummer. The designers: we built a really good looking, solid car. The Department of how to 4uck things up: says, Just wait a minute...and, there you go, completely 4ucked a really great vehicle for ya. Sigh...Traxxas Slash is still looking really good right now, change my mind?
I just got the lasernut, ran a dozen battery's through it, breaks every time. I mean every time I take it out, something breaks, diff, steering, shocks, bearings, axles, wheels, control arms, hubs. I've had to buy hundreds of $$ in parts, bags and bags of parts to keep this thing rolling. 4s @ 100% is insane fast and hard to control, I'm often just 75% or even 50. Not a basher, rather fragile in my opinion.
i destroyed this rear diff with 3 halfsec fullgaz on 4s on a hig grip road... the battery was a 850 mah tatu .. impresive tatu rline ... is it a joke ? do someone have found an full steel rear diff? can u show me where to buy? horizonhobullshit that put aluminium micro rear diff to eat 2kw power... its a jackietuning thing.. broking the transmission cuz of power...

Losi screwed up with this truck. It most definitely should have had an 8th Scale drive-train. Guess you gotta cut costs somewhere but losi could just make it smaller, like 10th scale.
Hopefully the next version will be my next present to myself.
This is my luck with every truck i have lol i swear to god ive gone through every 1/8 scale and 1/10 scale electric out there and even the ones guys say o you don't need to upgrade it's "bullet proof" I've had to highly upgrade because no matter what i drive it will break each drive and i don't come close to rc dude 81 style or duperbash jumping. Just horrible luck. Like yesterday i drove my kraton 4s and snapped 3 drive shafts right after my buddy said these drive shafts are tough lol. Ordering a tekno mt410 this weekend.
Well my buddy has a tekno MT410 and it’s almost....bulletproof. LoL. Seriously he has beat on it a lot and it’s taken everything. Great truck
You Got A Lemon Maybe. Seems That Thing Has Lots Of Power Burns Out Berigns
Mine is doing fine. I run it on 4S and haven't had a bearing issue. I have had an issue with the front drive shafts coming out but I added some shims and it seems to be working pretty well.
Same issues on my Losi Baja Rey in the rear end, sadly. Horror-izon stuff just isn't working for me.
I've had the same issue with my Baja Rey. What did you do to fix the issue?
@@leetjohnson Hot racing metal 3rd member housing on the rear (it has better pinion bearings and reduces flex), then put in an exotek metal diff housing, then put in a locker instead of the differential gears. It's hard to control but fun! I think Losi offers upgraded "heavy duty" diff gears that may solve the problem, but I haven't tried them. I also put a locker in the center diff, it really helps the handling (no more ballooning front tires while the rear tires do nothing, lol). Hope this helps!

My brother has a laser nut he brings out with my Mojave and his takes a beating. Not as strong as the arrma Mojave but only broke twice out of 20+ battery packs he’s ran in it. And one of the leds went out on the light bar.
Easy solution, dust cover.
If you had a dust cover on the Lasernut you probably wouldn't be having bearing issues. Dirt and sand getting into those bearings is what causes them to fail.
Honest reviews are bitter sometimes I'm sorry you're having bad experience with your Lazernut Joe you're a positive person, I haven't had any issues 3s stock or 4s 16t pinnion I run it stock tho, have you had those issues with your Tenacity DB pro? I'm stumped on any suggestions other than Losi support with your complaints I do feel your pain with Traxxas bashers their overpriced garbage in my experience and I painstakingly got full refund on a slash and an xmax via my attourney and a Traxxas ceo I do still have 3 different TRX4'S those are well built and M41 Speedboat, maybe Losi is a better company in dealing with lemmon products wish you the best possible solution see you next video go out back and bash your Krayton that helps me shake it off 😎👍
I wish I had got the DB Pro, it seems those are really good vehicles. I love my Xmaxx as I beat on that thing weekly. I’m hoping for a new case from Vitavon with oversized bearings. That would fix a lot of issues with this.

Shouldnt have to be doing those sort of mods on a vehicle that costs that much! Maybe on a Banggood special you would expect to but that????

You just got a bad one bud, mine goes through hell and back STOCK in one piece.
I’ve only had issue with breaking turn buckles, lower control arms cracking, breaking plastic shock ends, breaking hub carriers all in the front end only. Everything else has been good and I run a gens ace 6000mah 100c 4s lipo with the stock gearing the way it came out the box.

my buddy bought one and it broke the first day. broke front drive shaft. that was the start of the broke parts. i feel like he should take it back to the hobby shop and return it for something else.

Im so glad u did this fail video. With all the hype surrounding new trucks on our scene, it is easy to impulse buy without researching enough or not having the videos later down the track showing the REAL issues. I was so interested in the Lazernut and nearly bought one a few times but from experience , wanted to wait for videos just like this one. These fail videos are not fun but really helpful - from beginner to experienced , so thankyou for your effort and thought of a later vid. Not pretty but thats

Maybe it would make a good platform for rocket power. Takes the drivetrain issues right out.
I love this style of rc truck, fast and capable to do some rough offroading. At first I was very exited about the lazernut but now im very happy i built my own out of a zd racing platform, ran allmost 20x 3s packs through it now and only issue is wear on centre drive shaft cup, thats it.
Maybe try in different conditions? Sand is ruff on stuff..
Thanks for the great videos! I've put 5 3S packs through mine so far. 4S battery coming today. I run this in a large reservation nearby. It has high speed trails and lots of rocks and crawling opportunities. The rear left wheel nut did not have loctite from the factory. I replaced all with nylon inserts. No problems so far. With this body I'm not looking to bash with it. I'm certainly not saying you were doing that. This is so cool to approach the same crawling rocks with this thing. I'm having a blast. Looking forward to 4S to scream across open fields. 3S is more than you need for anything else. Thx!
