The master is back I think I will have a go now. You made it so simple even I could understand it buddy. But I am still popping over so you can make sure I am doing it right lol.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, Stewart. Between your video and Micael Widell's, (where he mentioned you use this model of camera), I've decided to buy a used Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II to replace my Nikon macro setup. Thank you so much.
Stewart, thanks for the video, I enjoy your work. Just for completeness though, 1/50 is the fastest shutter speed for silent mode, it’s faster for mechanical shutter.
@@StewartWoodArt you’re absolutely right of course, silent shutter only on om-1 as well. Was getting confused with flash. Correct me if I’m wrong though, you can bracket or stack with faster shutter speeds if not using flash.
Can you do a quick video on Macro with OM 1 and syncing your Godox flash to its burst mode ? (Ie what are the settings you use on the flash) Thank you and I really enjoy your videos. I feel inspired to give this a go.
Hi, with the OM system and focus bracketing, when do you use the computational focus bracketing in autofocus and when do you use focus bracketing with manual focus. moving the camera from front to back?
I always use the bracketing in autofocus with this camera, I only use manual focus when I’m using a manual lens or a camera that doesn’t support auto bracketing.
Hi Stewart, great video that helped me understand the bracketing technique better, thanks! I’ve only dabbled in the in-camera stacking so far, and while powerful, I don't particularly like the quality of the resulting jpg image, so I'm looking into trying the bracketing soon. A partially related question: how do you deal with all those raw images used for a stack? When you shoot hundreds of raws just for a single stacked image, your drive must get full incredibly quickly. Do you have a backup method for those source images? I usually don't want to leave them in Lightroom, as they take a lot of space and slow the program down. Perhaps you can even do a whole video on this topic :) Thanks and best regards!
do you use a diffuser with this set up for your stacking work , i have the same gear if you do use a diffuser which do you use a diffuser what kind and where can they be bought , tia
Thanks for your swift reply! I have just bought this camera (omd em1 mk2) and not sure if you could recommend a good memory card to use? Thanks again 🙏
Very helpful. I didn't know I could stop the count by pressing the shutter release again. I am still wrapping my head around shots and spacing. Does anyone know if you can use non Olympus flash (Godox V860 III) with in camera focus stacking? And, I take it that since the flash pops with every shot in bracketing, it still does not overexpose the final image? I think I noticed that while I keep my flash on Manual, it did change to Multi, but I forgot if it was during stacking or bracketing. Anyone know about this? I am still reading up on the flash.
Hi Stewart, fantastic videos as always. Just a quick question if I may? I’ve a Nikon Z7ii with Godox V350 flash + AK diffuser, I’m new to macro so am wondering if I can focus bracket in the same way (speed) with my setup as with the OM camera? Focus shift shooting with Nikon seems a lot slower. Is it also possible to have a dedicated button on the camera or mc 105 lens to initiate stacking rather than having to set / start through the menu? I’m now thinking of purchasing an OM camera plus Loawa 2 x macro lens.😳 Any recommendations would be most welcome (fellow Midlander! 😉)
Great tutorial I’m just getting into macro and have a question if in manual focus mode and at 1:1 doe the auto focus control the lens even in mf ? It appears to but having difficulty when hand held to get a good stack
Hey Stewart thanks for the video! I have a question, would I be able to use the in camera focus stacking / bracketing with a manual lens?. Very new to the M43 world, I did shoot on Sony FF and have done focus stacking with rails, but after recently picking up a Panasonic G3 and 7Artisan lens for super cheap I am tempted to get a newer body. Thanks!
@@StewartWoodArt that makes sense. I ended up getting one of the rails a bit like the Nisi one that you reviewed. I had a cheaper 4 way plastic one but I found it was a bit temperamental at moving. Also picked up a OM-1 which I am super happy with! Also, Birmingham based? I am sure I recognise that accent! (Brummie here too, but moved away for 10 years and recently came back, god knows why ha).
@@StewartWoodArt lucky having the chase so close. Must be great for the macro work 😁. Once I get a flash sorted I need to get up that way when the weather is good.
i just recently bought this camera with the 60mm, but i sometimes have problems with the flash. I have a meike mk320, sometimes it reads it correctly and connects, allowing me to use it for bracketing, but other times i turn it on and the camera does not read it and it doesn't function when i try bracketing, but it does for normal pictures. Any idea?
This was a quick video recorded between roof leaks.
This is the perfect amount of details to start Focus Stacking/Bracketing using OMD Cameras. You rock Stewart!!! Another precise brilliant video.
Awesome, thank you!

Excellent video. I really appreciate. If you had a no limit budget, what flash would you buy for your OM-1?
I do t have the OM1 but at the moment the Godox V860III is a good choice.

@petedent8356 yes you can, when using natural or continuous light you can use faster shutter speeds.

Unfortunately, I don't have an OM1 so I won't be able to do the video.
Thanks for a great video, learnt a lot from it. Which stacking software would you recommend please?
I currently use Helicon Focus

no, the in-camera focus stack requires a compatible lens. you can, however do manual stacks.

Could be a bad flash or connection, you would need an another flash to test it.
If your using the 60mm macro lense is it set to AF on the lens when using bracketing
When we focus stack a lot like 50 with the camera do it ? Or is that in software
Software, the camera can only do 15 image stacks internally.
Thanks. Great video. Does it work with mf or just af.
You have to have a compatible AF lens.
@@StewartWoodArt got the zuiko 60 mm. So that will work then. 👍
Focus stacking is "greyed out" ??
Incompatible lens maybe?
@@StewartWoodArt Yes, I realized that a bit later. Unfortunately a compatable lens would cost as much as the camera I bought used?
I shouting stacking with e-shutter. 1/50 or less.
