Tbf, IRL, I noticed a lot of filipinos get really prideful over lumpia when it's not really that particular to the Philippines. I had a lot of filipino friends growing up and they way overhyped lumpia to me, and when I had I just said "These are just mini Cha Gio (Viet version), what's so special about it?"
Here in Philippines, we do have 3 kinds of Lumpia, the famous one-which Ernie made-is the Lumpiang Shanghai, which is deep fried and its filling is meat, the second one is the Lumpiang Togue, also a deep fried lumpia, but beans sprout as the fillings, and the last one, is the same as in your country, is the Lumpiang Sariwa or Fresh Lumpia, its fillings are fresh Lettuce, Bamboo shoots or Beans sprout, and some fresh veggies and it accompanies by sweet nutty sauce.
@@LynneTomatoand comenly in Indonesia we use mashed potatoes, carrots and boilde eggs (with some tweaking depending on who are you buying it from, but that's the general ingreadian as far as I know and eat). I was actually kind of confused on why they're adding shrimp to a lumpia when (thanks to the comment) it's actually a Philippino thing (correct me if I'm wrong). Never realize there's so much different kind of lumpia out side of Indonesia. It's kind of a nice surprise.
