    I think Wyandottes are one of my favorite chicken breeds. They're friendly but not "all over you" friendly, very levelheaded and well behaved. Easy to manage.

    One of my favorite flocks I ever had was I ordered a straight run of 50 Silver Laced Wyandottes. No Kidding I had people stop, pull in to admire the birds. A group of these are hard to beat as lawn ornaments. Good Layers, hardy dual purpose birds.

    My first Wyandot was a silver laced . Loretta she was so regal and beautiful . We lost her last year when the temperature got 110 degrees. We did everything we’d read or heard about to keep our little flock alive . From changing water several times a day - with ice . Iced boxes so they good get cooler , fan - we’d cool them down by putting their feet in our bird bath full of cool water . Loretta didn’t make it .
    Anyway, this year we got several more chickens but only one blue- laced Wyandotte . She’s a preteen and named Queen Latifia - Queeny for short . She’ll definitely be our beauty queen. I was a little worried because I have only one . I usually buy 2 of each kind - but I was at my max . So far so good . She seems to hang out with my Lavender opingtons. Thanks for the information

    I finally got a Wyandotte. She’s a very non lap chicken. But she is gorgeous and very friendly. She’s loud but only when I’m messing up, doing the wrong things.

    My silver laced Wyandotte, Winnie, is beautiful but oblivious. As my girls free range she wanders 30 minutes alone then looks around like 'hey where is everyone?' She is a straggler I have to keep my eye on.

    I mostly know this breed name because when I was younger I pronounced it "Why-NAY-dot," and people would usually chuckle or groan. It took me forever to get the name right.
    That and I've always liked the spotted/speckled varieties. 🐔 ❤

    I know of no one who is unhappy with their Wyandottes. I have gold-laced hens that are basically dogs and they cannot get enough human interaction.

    I'm currently hand raising some silver laced wyandotte chicks along with some plymouth rocks and araucanas, and the wyandottes are by far favourites! They are super sweet and friendly, they come running up to my hand wanting to snuggle up (except for one of them, they don't really enjoy being held, but they enjoy resting against me), and they are super food obsessed (more so than other breeds I've had), so it's funny watching them frantically eat (even though they've got constant access to food and just frantically ate not 10 minutes earlier every single time they frantically stuff their faces! 😂)! This is my first experience with wyandottes, and I'm loving every single second with them! ❤️

    Ordered 5 Silver laced wyandotte hens and 5 Golden laced wyandotte hen chicks but once 6 weeks old I saw I had a silver laced wyandotte Rooster but kinda glad now at 3.5 months old cause he's a huge beautiful bird that guards the hens very well.

    Don’t have any yet but will get some eggs for hatching in spring. One of my first choices for my flock. Vorwerks were first choice and I wanted some coloured egg layers before I got my Wyandotte’s. I’ll have a silver and gold and sell the excess.

    One of my favorite hens that I ever had was a Gold laced and, not true to their nature, became the dominant hen of my flock at the time. She actually "crowed" (not audibly) and grew 1.5" leg spurs like a rooster! A local breeder said she had never seen that in a Gold laced or any Wyandotte in the 20 years she had been breeding. Sadly, Buttercup was taken out by a neighbor's dog while free ranging.

    I have two COLUMBIAN who went broody on me right away. They were sent to me mid Oct-winter raised in my house. In February I put them out and within two weeks of laying they both hatched one egg each. Then one hatched four more. The four are almost four weeks old. I also have a silver laced. I bought two but one didn’t recover from the shipping experience.

    Great video. I have chickens as well since nearly one and a half years. It was my childhood dream. Now I am 23 and it finally worked. 😍😍🐔🐔🐔🐓
    I have Silkies, 2 Orpingtons 1 Amrock and 4 Sundheimer's, a german breed, one "normal one" and three midget Sundheimer's. And a midget Silky rooster. But he is a mixture because he doesn't have a wall nut comb only a standard one. I am actually not sure what other breed is sticking in him because of the standard comb. But he is really friendly. His name is Tristan. And currently I have 6 young one's with them, that hatched this year in May. And I am lucky: three roosters and 3 chickens. That's very rare you know. But now the roosters are starting to mate with the chickens and its getting a little bit more "crazy" now ya know. But they are not crowing yet but I think it won't be long...........
    One of them I want to keep. Because Tristan my silky mix is used to more roosters from the previous owner, where I got him. So that's absolutely no problem. This works perfectly. But one young rooster starts to get aggressive now as well. But the other two are calm and also very friendly. I think this might work. I only have to make a decision, which one will stay with my flock. But I have to favorites. The third one is no use because he's very dominant already and starts to be aggressive. But I will see, one will be the follower of Tristan. Because Tristan is two years old almost............. But I keep him, this he will die naturally, ya know? We will se who will be the follower of him and how it goes....................
    CHICKENS FOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Many greetings from Germany,
    Florian

      I finally got a coop today. I owned chickens when I was a kid, but my parents took care of them. So I am basically starting from scratch. I always wanted silkies! Or at least ONE. They're my favorite chickens. But I have heard they're mainly for pets and not for eggs. And I heard they're mite prone :/ how do you personally feel and what advice would you give to someone like me (beginner)? 😊 And what are some pros and cons about them? If you don't mind me asking 😁

    • @florianmathaess1803
      @florianmathaess1803 Рік тому +1

      @@tawnikitari hello. No problem. The Silkies are often kept as a pet. I have a few silkies just because of their character, they are really calm and get tame really quickly. They are not great egg layers, only 80 to 100 eggs a year but when they are broody, they are very good mothers. I currently have a young silkie chicken, it's 9 months old and one month ago it started laying. And since two days it's broody already. Now it's sitting on 5 eggs. 😀😂😂🐔🐣🐣
      I was a little confused, because it's still a little cold in my area, where I live, so I didn't now, if it will work but I think it will. And I assume in three weeks it will be warmer so with the small chicks it will be no problem we'll see......
      I hope that I don't have as much roosters as the last time (4 roosters and one chicken 🙄😂😂😂) but we'll see what comes out.......

    • @florianmathaess1803
      @florianmathaess1803 Рік тому +1

      And I have 2 roosters at the moment, my silke mix rooster Tristan abd one of the young ones from last year, a midget as well I called him Louie. And it works perfect with both roosters 😀🐓🐓🐔🐔🐔🐔👍👍👍👍

      @florianmathaess1803 Рік тому +1

      @@tawnikitari And I only let one chicken breed eggs out this year not two again like last year. This way, I hope I am more lucky with the roosters........

      @@tawnikitari A friend of mine he has chickens as well since 3 years approximately 30 or 35 or something and last year he had two broody hens and now he has 4 chickens and 7 roosters running around at his chickens, so it can be very annoying, you now. And they all started to crow now and now he has 7 roosters crowing around all over the place. 😂😂😂😂😂
      So he definitely has to do something now sooner or later.............
