That's some very nice component design! I hadn't heard of this game before now, and when I read about the theme, it sounded a bit like an abstract "Small Gods: The Board Game." 😉 [Discworld book by Terry Pratchett]
Magnets are indeed great. Feels great. Coloma has magnet in the centre wheel of the board and it just works and feels really well. My question is: why don’t we see more of magnetic components in Board games? Is the cost significantly more expensive to make games with magnets? Have you, Jamie ever considered using magnets in your games? If you did? Why you decided not to use them? I’m very curious about this as I am considering using a magnetic player board instead of the classic double layered player boards that has tracks….. Thanks. Your videos are great and really informative and helpful!
I think if you're just using 1 magnet (like in Merchants of the Dark Road), it is a small expense. I'm guessing it was quite a bit more expensive for An Age Contrived. I looked into using magnets for the Scythe modular board, and it nearly doubled the manufacturing cost (hence why I didn't pursue them).
I would assume that as more designers take this step, it would end up dropping the price overall. I love what Chris was able to accomplish with design and its level of production.
Thank you for trying this game and making this video, Jamey! I just found out about it late. It's very kind of you to highlight it.
- Chris
Thanks for making it!
Cool! Love when you show off game designer creativity and uniqueness!
Received my copy of this game a couple of days ago; definitely looking forward to getting it to the table!
