Hi there! We are not trying to replace hands-on training, which we agree is absolutely critical. The idea behind SIMTICS is that you can learn at a cognitive level and build "mental models" of the procedures and skills before you ever get to a clinical lab or clinical site. And also build confidence, which many students struggle with when they start learning. It works, because our customer schools tell us this all the time.

Hi Micheal, I'm currently on my third term for medical assisting. How are you liking the industry? Any tips for us that you learned while on the job that wasn't covered in school? Thanks

@@Scribblescrabbly( late comment. Wishing u well. This might be helpful to others) pretty much everything isnt taught in school. Especially since it takes practice and repetition to know what the book is talking about. Like with everything in life. 😁 Like last minute trays coming in. Stuff that u cant find! Things sent back from the OR that someone in assembly missed. Another thing. A lot of these techs that have worked there for years still dont know it all. Even my teacher that is my supervisor at work. It takes a student with a " good question" to let them realize this lol
Always ask questions. Dont be afraid to ask. I had to learn this! It isnt always easy to ask for help, but, it is what everyone gets paid for...to help the department run as smoothly as possible

at 2:32 when she transfers the item on to the tray, she crossed the sterile field A LOT, the whole tray should then be considered contaminated.

Hi Kelly, thanks for visiting our channel and watching our video clip so carefully! You are absolutely correct that it's not good practice to reach across a sterile field however I think the camera angle is a bit misleading. Also, the edge of the blue drape is deemed to be out of the sterile field anyway which is mainly what her arm is above. However - to treat this as a learning point, how would you do it differently? 🙂

Instead of reaching over like that, she could do it a couple different ways. She can pop the item on to the tray with the packaging, she could drop it on from the side while holding the packaging in her forearm. Or she could get a pair of sterile transfer forceps and transfer the item that way.
