Thank you for watching! The "Diggers" guys became friends and I did an event with them in California. Great guys. Actually our show came out before theirs did.
I appreciate that. I now live in Arizona and care deeply about wildlife and the enviroment, so we always do our utmost not to harm or disturb. Cheers for the comment.
Actually, yes! There was a fall not so far from you in Sutter's Mill in 2012! You do make a good point though -- meteorites often seem to fall in the most inconvenient places. Here's a link to the 2012 fall: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sutter%27s_Mill_meteorite
I go camping at Madera Canyon which is part of the Santa Rita mts. How do they not know to do that stuff in the winter when it's 70 instead of 110. I found a nice one in the Arivaca Desert while camping there.
I live in Arizona and hunting in the summer wasn't by choice. That's what the production schedule required. We had to shoot seven episodes before the end of that year and that's how it worked out. I would much rather NOT hunt in Arizona in July / August ; )
It's fantastics that you mentioned this kids' show! I loved "Banana Splits" when I was a kid, but you'll be amazed by how spot on you really are. When we were gearing up for Season One, I specifically asked production to try and get us an Argocat -- that's the six-wheel vehicle the Bananas drive in the credits. It wasn't possible, but Hydratrek very kindly made this vehicle available to us and it really is quite similar, though much larger and heavier. Cheers for watching -- Geoff of "MM"
We have found plenty of bullets and lead too! 😉 That's part of the deal, although we always pack out the trash we find and try to leave the area cleaner than we found it. Cheers for watching -- Geoff of "MM"
Correct! Something I know full well, since I've been living in Arizona for over 15 years. When it's 109 degrees in summer and you've been hiking in the mountains for several days with two cameras in my face and carrying a backpack and metal detector, amazing how easy it is to make the occasional mistake 😉
Your headed to emergency room either way..scorpion won't kill you ( in most u.s. places ) but they hurt alot , infection and any sign of fever seek medical advice asap
I like the GPS units, they look like my UHF CB's. Here in Australia we have UHF CB's handhelds up to 5 Watts. The band is around 476 MHz. Very handy when prospecting.
12:33 I believe that's a 2 gauge punt gun (shotgun) cartridge, ultra rare. I found the exact same thing 30 years ago and thought it was a piece of a military round until an old timer told me what it was. They were used to kill passenger pigeons in the 1920s. micksguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/eley-punt-cartridge-2.jpg
Thank you for this super-interesting comment Jonathan and I'm sorry I missed it back when you posted. Gosh, I think you may be right? I really appreciate your sharing your thoughts on the mystery find. Makes me sad about the passenger pigeons, though. Hard to believe they once "filled the sky." Thanks for watching / cheers for posting!
Up here in middle of Canada they're easy to find.. I have over 200 in my collection.. I have pictures of some that melt cement into glass.. I have a video of my collection on here.. Check it out...And only 4 of my collection are magnetic. Most metal meteorites get heated to 3000° and turn into basic elements of metal and are not magnetic..
It wasn't by choice. That's what the production schedule required. We had to shoot seven episodes before the end of that year and that's how it worked out. I would much rather NOT hunt in Arizona in July / August ; )
"We've blurred out the map not to make the markers visible" *Keeps showing the marked image of the map for the rest of the show... Logic, why hath thou abandoneth thee...
I think the original was blurred out. It’s probably no longer a secret location by the time this was reposted on UA-cam.(it seems Geoff have kept them blurred tho). The ones with markers may not accurate and simply just for illustration.
Yes , look for a sign when you think your there , sorry suckers..... tactically it's a diversion ...use trees an hyper local details...curve of a dry gulch..ect.
Things are not always as straightforward as they appear on TV. The vintage source map seen early in this episode was blurred out at the request of the owner, who very kindly lent the original to me. There are handwritten notations on that map that are confidential. The simplified color map graphic shown later was created in post-production specifically for the show. Anyone with an ordinary topo map and modest experience in orienteering could figure out where we were geographically and there is much published literature about the Tucson Ring avaialble. The point was to safeguard the privacy of the person who lent us the original map, not obscure where we were hunting -- a location that's well known to people familiar with southern Arizona and / or the Tucson Ring. I hope this note is helpful. Thank you for watching, cheers -- Geoff of "MM"
One of the world's largest iron meteorite is called Agpalilik and it weighed 20.1 tons. It was only supposed to be part of a larger meteorite found by a Danish scientist Vagn Fabritius Buchwald in northwest Greenland. So Northwest Greenland could then be an idea for the discovery of large iron meteorites. The meteorite can be seen in Copenhagen on the Geological Museum's yard on the steel sled, on which it was shipped to Denmark in 1967 - four years after the discovery. The meteorite: da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteorit#/media/Fil:Agpalilik.jpg
And there are three of them in New York City -- the Cape York irons. We tried hard to do a Greenland episode but could not get the necessary legal permission, unfortunately. Thank you for the post!

The amounts of nickel are typically very small -- 7% or less -- and the soultion test doesn't work well. We need an assay lab or detailed analysis to find the nickel.
Another great episode!!
Thank you!
I enjoy coming along on your adventures. I have worked in a place or two where you have searched. If I could I would go back. I love AZ especially.
Love this show!!!
Cheers! Thank you for watching and commenting! 🙌

At14:16, he's holding a fence stretcher, part of it. There are at least 3 more pieces and a rope.
Gold or iron, prospecting is the same: Lots of time spent spent looking. Nothing of great value found, until ....

you should just bring nickel detection solution
And you should invent a detector that only detect nickel 👌
