St. Peters and St. Pauls Indian Orthodox Church, popularly known as Parumala Church/Parumala Pally is a very famous church situated on the shores of the river “Pampa” at Parumala, a small town in the most beautiful Southern State of India, Kerala. The church is one of the independent parish of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, which was founded by St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, who came to India in A.D. 52. Saint Gregorios of Parumala is popularly known as "Parumala Thirumeni". Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Gregorios of the Malankara Orthodox Church who passed away on November 2nd 1902, became the first declared saint from Malankara (Kerala, India) naturally to be called, ‘Parumala Thirumeni’. He shines in the cloud of witnesses as a bright luminary giving rays of hope to millions in their suffering and struggles. Under the leadership of Parumala Thirumeni, the old church and an adjoining seminary building was built on 27th January 1895. Expansion of the church continued until 1960. His Holiness Baselius Marthoma Mathews II, Catholicos of the East laid the foundation stone of the new church on 19th March 1995. The Demolition of the old church began in September 1995 and a new chapel was constructed at the premises of St.Gregorios Hospital, Parumala, on October 1997. Parumala Perunnal, the glorious festival of St. Peter's & St. Paul's Orthodox Church, Parumala, Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta, is one of the most famous celebrations held in the evergreen state Kerala, also known as God's own country. It is conducted annually from Oct 26th to November 2nd to commemorate the death anniversary of St. Gregorios, the declared saint of the Malankara Orthodox Church of Kerala. Devotees from all parts of the State swarm the grounds of the church to celebrate this great day. St. Peter's and St. Paul's Malankara Orthodox Church also known as Parumala Pally is a famous church in Kerala, India. This church is located in Parumala in Thiruvalla Taluk In Pathanamthitta district and is a pilgrimage center and mausoleum of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
