Hi Sarah, thank you for making these tutorials. I have watched a ton of skateboarding tutorials on UA-cam, I think so far yours is the best at breaking up the trick into less intimidating steps for beginners or anyone learning a new trick. Great work and please keep making them! I am wondering if you have perhaps an online shop or something where we can support you for making videos?
Hi Austin! Really, I didn’t think anyone would be interested in that. But, I’ll definitely keep making videos regardless and think about options for supporting the channel. 🙏😊
Yes... there’s many variations. I learned the boned out version where you begin to turn 180 but you pull it back in before you land. I’m inspired to learn it all over again though. Keep dropping the science Kid!
Hey - Sarah, great video! Honestly I think your boneless look SUPER STEEZY when you do it with your foot rear of the bolts. It makes it more 'aerial' I guess. The imbalance, comes off as extra flair when you do it! Im gonna practice both ways
Absolutely fantastic tutorial! I’ve been trying to learn the boneless on my 8.38" board with rails/wheels (for boardslides), 56mm wheels and it was sooooo hard just to lift my board up because it’s rather heavy (despite hollow trucks). Today I tried it with my shorter 7.5" freestyle board and it is SOOOO MUCH easier! I’m only 5'2" so this made a big difference for me.

I have not gotten this close to a boneless until watching your video so thank you!! Never occurred to me that this trick can be broken down. Trickiest thing for me right now is doing it rolling and with only one hop. I find that I could only do it if I hopped at least a couple times before landing back on my board, and my shoulders keep turning so that I'm not landing rolling away
That's awesome! I'm stoked the video helped 😃 Just like breaking it down into little steps, break down the rolling version. Take seriously small hops! One tiny rolling boneless is one step closer to a massive one 💪 You definitely got it. Take it super slow with good form, and you'll definitely be able to pick up the speed.
As a 38 year old trying to relearn skating after almost 20 years, I appreciate this a lot. Question, what are some good gloves for skating when doing freestyle, preferably half finger gloves ?
Thank you! I wish I had a good recommendation, but I've never used those half finger gloves for skateboarding. Of course, finding a material like leather or suede will hold up more. I've used adidas running gloves and put shoe goo on the fingertips to make them last 😃
I went out last night thinking of what you said about the shoulders and it clicked with manuals and kickturns.Your boneless is awsome btw.You are great teacher.Thank you
Thank you for your trick tip. I had the same problem with my foot on the rail. Finally fixed it 😊 I also use gloves, mechanic gloves, but they are not really breathable, what kind of gloves do you use? Are you satisfied ?
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it 😃 I've actually been using a pair of under armer running gloves. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a pair that I really like yet, but these have lasted the longest for me so far. And they're definitely the most breathable.
I am having so much trouble with the boneless. not exactly sure why, but the main issue seems to be that my back leg always straightens out sooner than my front foot can, so the board lands on its back wheels first and its hard to balance. I can't seem to land with both feet simutaneously. guess I just have to practice the jump some more, like cavemans and such, before I try to go all out. sometimes a trick looks so simple and I think I should be able to do it right away, but somehow I'm not. so then I get frustrated and leave it at that. think I should start with baby steps and then I'll get it eventually. thanks sarah.
It never occurred to me to move my foot from the tail to the bolts to help stop my body (and board) from pivoting so hard when I go to step off. Thanks a ton 👍
This is great, thank you for the in-depth explanations. Can you do a video on the trick that you did at 0:20 or any other no comply / foot plant variations?
Ohh I was told that's called a Sal flip at 0:20 and it is so much fun. Foot plant variations are definitely on my list of content to cover! (The list is just really long right now, but I'll try to get to it!🙏)
now going into bean plants and trying to learn how to 180 these on an incline. i feel like i could talk about how to boneless for 4 hours and am always forgetting and remembering different ways. i feel like the differences are the beauty but also frustrating things about skating also immediately saw people do bean plants like 4 different ways, grab the side, grab the nose grab while leg on grab while leg off etc etc i learnt this way first for boneless then with a kick down on tail as felt good and someone said thats how to do? lool also i tend to kick down but for 180 you supposed to kick right if that makes sense... i cant 180 them yet i guess the reason is just a coward lol
Hi Sarah! I am a new old skater (just started last year, at the age of... 42!), and I have to say, your tutorials are by far the most helpful to me in learning tricks. There's a subreddit called OldSkaters, and I'm going to hype up your channel for all the other olds who are having a harder time learning skateboarding. Love it so much! One request - I randomly got good at frontside shuvits, but now I can't hit them for the life of me. Could you do a tutorial on those? Thanks.
Hi Kemi! I’m really stoked to hear my channel has been so helpful 😃 I love breaking the tricks down myself. Unfortunately, my front shoves are still really lacking. But, I am trying to make tutorials as I fee confident in my understanding of the trick, so I’ll definitely be making that as soon as I can💪💪

Thank you so much. I'm really glad you think so highly of my tutorials! And, I actually have considered putting subtitles in a few different languages (including Spanish). It's definitely a long term goal of the channel! 🙏
My two cents from learning this, is that for bending down, it would be wise to learn to "get low" while free riding so that way it's easier to get down and grab the board
Sarah, can I ask, in your opinion, why do you recommend doing Cavemans to warm up for Boneless? For me, I felt like the Caveman is harder to learn than the Boneless as for the Boneless for me one foot is always on the board at all times which makes it easier for me to jump and land as I'm focusing on landing my front foot on the board, as of now I'm still struggling with Caveman but I'm slowly working on getting a Boneless while rolling.
I would recommend them for skaters who can already do them. In my experience, a lot of beginners start with the caveman, even little ones. And I strongly believe when working on jumping tricks, starting with the other jumping tricks that you can already do makes committing to it easier. That's why I tell people to warm up with hippie jumps before most tricks. Just to get the body jumping on the board. For me, I had a lot more trouble committing to the boneless than a caveman. But, you don't need the caveman to boneless of course. I always try to make the tutorials so you can pick and choose pieces that work for you. That's why there are so many steps. You might not need them all, but there are options 😃
@@SarahParkMatott Interesting analysis, I always felt like learning Boneless would help with learning the Caveman as I have problems with having both feet off the ground and not on the board and having to land both feet on the board
@@bartallen8121 learning to boneless will 💯 help you learn to caveman. That’s the amazing part of skating. The tricks and skills are all so connected. Learn one or the other, and it will help you learn the next trick. It’s such a compounding skill 💪💪
@@SarahParkMatott I like how you've used the bolts of the trucks for the boneless, I've seen all the other videos and they used the tail and I tried following and felt it really unstable. Following your advice, it really helped me with my stability and makes me less worried about falling.
@@bartallen8121 you can use either. But, I think it’s better to start on the bolts and then have fun with variations later 💪 glad this version has been better for you!
The way you grab the board is different. A boneless is done by grabbing the board with your back hand and you grab the toeside edge (the edge your toes face). A bean plant is done with the front hand and you grab the heelside edge (the edge your heels face). I hope that helps ☺️
well, a glove made with suede or leather would probably be the best against grip. I am just using running gloves from under armer, and they have been surprisingly long lasting.
@@SarahParkMatott thanks, i was practicing pop to nose grabs (idk the name) yesterday and my thumb was all cut up and killing me after rubbing against the grip tape when catching the board.
Hmm I’ve never ridden an electric skateboard, but from what I hear they are pretty heavy lol I would worry about dropping it on the curb by accident and hitting the battery. I’m not sure how much turbulence they can take either😂 but, it’s not a bad idea if you think it might work and not cause any damage 🤔
@@nothingheretowatch7371 yeah, it’s hard to work on rolling in this tiny room, but I can’t go really fast yet. When I do practice it. I do a few stationary, then I do one at a crawling pace. Then I try to do it faster. It’s those baby steps that give me confidence to try it faster😊

Ah! Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Very nice! Ty
The first of all footplants, and my favourite
insane stuff so good and helpful thanks
thank you 💪💪 always happy to hear if it's helpful!
I went out last night thinking of what you said about the shoulders and it clicked with manuals and kickturns.Your boneless is awsome btw.You are great teacher.Thank you
@@surfskaterelaxation8616 thank you so much. I’m stoked to hear that. It’s always in the little details 😃
great guide! subbed.
Glad you liked it! Welcome 🙋♀️
yooo no cap u should have more subs
Haha thanks dude, I'll be here making videos regardless :D
Thank you for your trick tip. I had the same problem with my foot on the rail. Finally fixed it 😊 I also use gloves, mechanic gloves, but they are not really breathable, what kind of gloves do you use? Are you satisfied ?
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it 😃 I've actually been using a pair of under armer running gloves. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a pair that I really like yet, but these have lasted the longest for me so far. And they're definitely the most breathable.
Love your Videos!
Thank you!😃🙏🙏
I am having so much trouble with the boneless. not exactly sure why, but the main issue seems to be that my back leg always straightens out sooner than my front foot can, so the board lands on its back wheels first and its hard to balance.
That's the truth for sure. So many tricks look so simple that we just have to stumble our way through. You'll definitely get it 💪
This is my next trick I’m learning
Yes! 🙌 Can't wait to see it!
It never occurred to me to move my foot from the tail to the bolts to help stop my body (and board) from pivoting so hard when I go to step off. Thanks a ton 👍
Same! I was doing it with my foot on the tail for months even though I didn’t have to 😂 it’s always the little details
(The list is just really long right now, but I'll try to get to it!🙏)
now going into bean plants and trying to learn how to 180 these on an incline. i feel like i could talk about how to boneless for 4 hours and am always forgetting and remembering different ways. i feel like the differences are the beauty but also frustrating things about skating also immediately saw people do bean plants like 4 different ways, grab the side, grab the nose grab while leg on grab while leg off etc etc i learnt this way first for boneless then with a kick down on tail as felt good and someone said thats how to do? lool also i tend to kick down but for 180 you supposed to kick right if that makes sense... i cant 180 them yet i guess the reason is just a coward lol
oops, I’ve also been learning with my back foot on the tail haha. Thanks for the tip!
Happy to help! It's possible to do them on the tail, but you don't have to 😃
I'll try it thx
But, I am trying to make tutorials as I fee confident in my understanding of the trick, so I’ll definitely be making that as soon as I can💪💪
@@SarahParkMatott Totally! Thanks for the response, and I'm so happy I subscribed. Love the great content
Haha Welcome to the community 🙋♀️ I'll keep trying to make better content too! 💪
learned this trick 3 days ago and today i was able to boneless 180 a 3 stair. super fun and easy to commit too
I gotta find a 3 stair then! 😃
how long did you take to learn?
@@hannafcarvalho833 I think it took me three sessions to feel comfortable with the little bonelesses. And about a month to feel good jumping a bit higher (this is when I was skating daily). :D
@@SarahParkMatott i see!! i went on a session after i left the comment and i already got the moves together, just need to do it faster and higher now :] thank u so much for your tutorial, it is the best/most clear i've seen!!!
@@hannafcarvalho833 That’s awesome! I’m glad to hear that you already started getting it together and happy my tutorial helped 😃😃 You’ll definitely get it faster and higher, so have fun! 💪
Thanks!!!
I have seen several tutorials but yours are definitely the best, they are very well explained, have you considered putting Spanish subtitles? I think you could reach more people. greetings from Mexico
Thank you so much. I'm really glad you think so highly of my tutorials! And, I actually have considered putting subtitles in a few different languages (including Spanish). It's definitely a long term goal of the channel! 🙏
Phenomenal tutorial, my daughter and I will work on the Boneless ASAP!
Thank you! Hope you two have fun 💪
A great video to revisit, thanks!
Also I like that I can just search 'boneless Sarah' and UA-cam knows what I mean
haha 😂 we teach the algorithm what we want lol Glad it knows what to do
My two cents from learning this, is that for bending down, it would be wise to learn to "get low" while free riding so that way it's easier to get down and grab the board
Sarah what's the trick you do in the intro at 00:00:20?
Nvm just cruised the comments it's called the sal flip? I'll look it up!
@@katelightstone haha yes! I’ve heard it’s the sal flip😃
Awesome Video!!
😃
Thanks
thank you!! 🙏 glad you liked the video
"Commitment issues " 😆 Girl, same
😏😏still got em too 😂
Your best video tutorial so far, Sarah⚡🙌🏼⚡
Thank you!! 😃
do you know is there a difference between boneless & bean plant or it's same exact trick?
The way you grab the board is different. A boneless is done by grabbing the board with your back hand and you grab the toeside edge (the edge your toes face). A bean plant is done with the front hand and you grab the heelside edge (the edge your heels face). I hope that helps ☺️
Now I understand, tnx a lot for both this tutorial & that explanation
@@sws126 thank you! Happy to help 😃
This is amazing! Where did you get your griptape?
Thank you! I actually painted the gripe tape myself 😃
love the Retsuko griptape
What gloves do you recommend that don’t get destroyed by grip tape?
well, a glove made with suede or leather would probably be the best against grip. I am just using running gloves from under armer, and they have been surprisingly long lasting.
@@SarahParkMatott thanks, i was practicing pop to nose grabs (idk the name) yesterday and my thumb was all cut up and killing me after rubbing against the grip tape when catching the board.
@@Indigo-33 ah I know exactly what you mean. The grip really gets you. Hope you can grab some gloves that work well!
Love the trucks.
Thanks :D
Do you think this can be used for an electric skateboard? Not for style or excessive height, just can't get past curbs XD
@@SarahParkMatott ill give it a very careful try.
Thanks for your input and love your videos
@@danialazam4916 thank you! I’m glad you’ve been enjoying the videos 😃 hope it does work out!
I'm trying to do this but it's hard to lift the board like that lol
Haha it’s hard at first 😂 you’ll definitely get it though 💪
love it
Ty sooo much, how fast can you go when doing boneless
I can't go very fast yet, because I'm quite a scary cat still!! But, some people can really fly when doing the boneless! :D
@@SarahParkMatott lol i am scared too i can do it standing still but i cant do it rolling
I wish I could like+subscribe twice. u a real one for these breakdowns, skaters are notoriously terrible teachers lol so sick of hearing the exact same terrible explanations on every channel, ty for approaching this like a coach. The way u break down tricks into their specific movements and then offer ways to build muscle memory for each step reminds me so much of martial arts training systems. Keep it up! I wish you had a skate school I would sign up so so quick
Wow, thank you so much! I'm really glad that you like my approach to these tutorials. It is very much a break down and build up of individual parts or similar motions that can train the same muscles. Thank you! I wish I had a skate school for you to sign up for too 😂
Nearly dislocated my thumb doing this👍
SICK AGGRETSUKO GRIP
Hey I know this is old but I find the Boneless better than Ollie's it looks more cooler and They are more fun to do down Stairs and off ledges, or down a hip ramp !! I do This trick all the time when im at the skatepark! Can u do them down Stairs or ledges yet?
I actually haven't tried..I do them a lot on flat! I like to do FS 180 flips on flat with them haha 😃
@@SarahParkMatott that's awesome 👌 U should absolutely Try them off a 2 stair or a 3 stair , they are fun 😀I do bonelesses off ledges and 2-3 stairs all the time and I'm working on trying it off a 4 stair or a 5 stair lmfao
Keep up the great work , and keep on skating
Thanks to your video i can boneless now. Thank you!
Hey that's awesome! I'm glad the video helped, but you put in the effort, so congrats on that paying off😃
Estupendo
I like to switch bone it saves energy
Nice video
Thank you! :D
