    Ooh! I've done the slide through movement before but haven't really done a weighted side plank or the saw motion. I'll definitely be including these this week!

    I've always wondered if I should I be doing planks and core work if my lower back is tight. Every time I do side planks, my QL muscles are on fire and I don't know if it's a good thing since they are always tight anyway.

      Burning a muscle out can help release it temporarily

      A tight muscle is a weak muscle (typically)

    Can the Turkish situp find a place here? coz it covers most of the moves involved in this exercise.

    How much of an issue is "core stability"? Is this more for injury recovery? I've never seen gymnasts doing exercises specifically for "stability" like this but they seem to have tons of it. 🤔

      I tore my labrum 2 yrs ago & stupid me didn't even realise it. Got diagnosed 2 months ago. Now I wonder why my spine is twisted 22° to my right(left hip labrum was torn), why I can't seem to have any activation of my left bicep,tricep,pec. Why I shift to me left during benching,back exercises. Why I can't swuat, deadlift at all. And most important,why are 3 of my lower left ribs are coming out of my abdomen every time I bench.
      My body inactivated the left side of my entire core as an adaptation for these 2 yrs to reduce weight on my undiagnosed left hip with torn labrum. Going into surgery now, guess what's that first thing I'll be doing when I hit the gym

      Gymnasts are always doing core stability. Hollow body position, arched body position and other core work like practicing the human flag are staples for gymnasts, and are all core stability related exercises

    Just don’t wear that kettle bell on your cheek/chin when doing that side plank.

    Is the amount of pressure being put on the knee of the supporting leg during side planks a concern ? Couldn’t you just set a cable station on hip height, grabb the handle and stepp sideways ?

    Static excercises are proven again and again, to cause less hypertrophy in the muscles. Why still bother peddling them? You definitely know better options. Present those to your audience.

    • @nb4032
      @nb4032 2 роки тому +16

      They're exercises 'for core stability', and Statics are definitely good for that. It's not geared towards hypertrophy.
      Cheers.

      I won a Hyper trophy once. Was a great day out, back in ‘99. Got manhandled by Big Susan for my sins, let me tell you… she was a core stability exercise in and of herself… if you catch my drift.
