I empathize with you -- I have a Pi 400 (basically using RetroPi), an Atari Arcadestick (RetroPi on a Pi3), an Emulec multi-console/arcade emulator, a MiSTerFPGA, and a couple other similar mega-arcade devices... each one using different emulation software, version, and/or hardware and requiring different ways to configure the controllers. It's maddening trying to figure out the right steps for each one and remembering what buttons to what.
Biggest mistake PacMan players make, is eating all power pellets too soon. Split your board into 4 quads. Power pellets allow for free movement around gameboard, so clean-up as much trash you can in that time. You'll be able to reach that screen memory glitch with no trouble. 😂
iPac retains control mapping, so you can move it from PC to Pie (or consoles) without the need for native software. All others require programs running in background.
Kip!! You have the patience of a saint!! But glad you dig deep and stuck it out, it’s looking amazing

I thought I was the only one with cursed electronics.
I will buy a pi 4 if it’s a sacrifice price, but when the price went through the roof, there are many alternatives and pi is stagnant.
I hear ya, although they are slowly coming down in price
