I tinkered with these cheap adapters for a while and came to realize if you run them in 4:3 they look terrific. I thought about the Wii for a while and came to realize that 480p isn't a native widescreen resolution. While the Wii does widescreen it does so by anamorphic widescreen which basically stretches the screen but doesn't increase the resolution. This also works for the cheap PS2 HDMI adapters, set the console to 4:3 and they look great, well as great as PS2 can look anyways. But the Wii looks terrific and the N64 Virtual Console games look great as well!
@@RoXolid Well yeah and your Retro Tink is way better. Of course my TV doesn't have component like many TVs nowadays but for $10 I'm really happy with the quality. There is a huge difference between 16:9 and 4:3 on these adapters.

@@xslamdownx102 Yep. I've had the same experience - the majority of all Wii2HDMI adapters have a lot of input lag. I'm going down the component cables route instead. Still looking for good component to HDMI converters though.
Hello, i’m trying to hook up my old Wii to a 4K tlc tv and I’m having a hard time finding a converter. Is this way to HDMI any good that you’re reviewing or is there anything better in the market, I’ve also seen one that called MAYFLASH Wii to HDMI Converter, I don’t know if this one is any good. If you could please help me out.
Not really as the Wii and Gamecube are fairly similar in the way the games look. Also, there are vastly superior options out there for the Gamecube as well.
@@RoXolid Out of what I know about the Wii and GameCube they aren't similar enough. There could be more in depth testing. I don't know enough to say your wrong or that it's absolutely going to be better or worse just that I believe there's enough of a difference to have a look at it. But. Given the HDMI mod made for GameCube required games to have the progressive scan compatible lable to get the most out of them and that nintendont has options that force games to try and run at 480p I would assume this little adapter wouldn't just make them run at 480p out of the box and might require some hacks to work. Like I said though this is all old Info from when I used my Wii way more often... The. Stopped because I was sick of all the work to set the damn thing up.
You will not stop talking about the 5x. Which is 300 dollars (plus taxes and import duties). IE the price of the SWITCH, which is an HD console with HDMI port. The Wii I bought new for 80 bucks in gorgeous black. If i spent 300 dollars on the connection to the tv that would be really stupid when I could then buy the switch instead 🤔
What you're not considering is how many systems I have connected to the 5x! For one system, no, it's to much money IMO, but I currently have 11 systems connected to it!
@@RoXolid yeah that's a really good point, i have now seen another one of your videos and you recommend the 2x pro for people with fewer or one console and that is relatively reasonably priced (in comparison to 5x which cost a switch or an ipad lol). I think I will go for 2xpro thanks 👍
I have one of those for my son’s wii, and the image quality is good for the most part. But on a black screen, there is faint visible diagonal lines going across the screen. Idk if that’s from interference or something else.
@@RoXolid thanks for the reply! I have already tired a couple of things, such as trying different hdmi cables and a second power supply for the Wii. But it still has that same issue. I may just order another one and see if the one I have is defective.
I was having a microphone issue during this time, I've actually purchased two other sets of Mike's since this to try to address the issue and more recent audio definitely is cleaner
I recently picked up a Wii so I can try and start playing GameCube games. I went ahead and ordered one of these adapters since most of my 4K TV’s don’t support AV. I’m glad to see this do what it needs to and allows the Wii to work with HDMI. Although I will probably run my Wii through my HDMI splitter so I can use my M-Classic with it to help improve the resolution.
@@RoXolid I know, but I use a multi input one output splitter since I also like to use my M-Classic for my Xbox 360 and Wii U. That way I only need one M-Classic for multiple consoles.
I got this adapter a few years ago and the Wii stopped working. I was able to figure out it was the adapter. Would not recommend taking a chance on this adapter.
@@SonyaHorsburgh-k5x - A HDMI cable goes into this adapter that's plugged into the back of the Wii, and the other end of that HDMI cable goes into the TV. Just like any DVD player, PlayStation.. etc
I experience input lag on the motion controls, specially in Wii sports resort. I don't know if it's the fault of this adapter or a somewhat modern tv, but kinda disappointed
The Wario games are awesome! I love them even though Mario is the traditional adventure but I feel Wario deserves more love. He really has a unique story and great gameplay.
All those Wii2HDMI adapters caused vertical lines in 480p on my wio. I got myself a OEM component cable and a normal component to hdmi converter and never looked back. If someone else have the same problems with the cheap adapters this is my recommendation.
They CAUSE these lines? I thought they were an inherent flaw of the Wii's output, which the lower quality cables just hid better and the higher quality cables just exposed it more clearly.
Hi there in was just curious now I bought the wii2hdmi for some reason I have the black borders round the wii screen is that how its sopose to appear or do I have to change some setting let me know ty
@@RoXolid It's nice my sister and have each others games and don't have bring over the whole stack of games, plus adding the systems like GBA/GBC/TurboG/N64/SNES/NES plus the games that weren't released officially or rom hacks get pretty fun too.
Nice! Glad it worked out. I wonder if the stock of the bad ones is exhausted. I vaguely remember the issue with these being you didn't know which one you'd get. I wonder if we will ever get a a new WiiDual.
I have the same issue. I can't seem to get a proper quality no matter how i adjust settings. So I am curious if it's a faulty product and if there are better alternatives :(
Maybe your TV/monitor does not support 480i, these things are only transcoders, you will have to change the Wii settings on some other TV from 480i to 480p to test.
But they really weren't. The NES was less powerful than the Master System, the SNES was less powerful than the Genesis, the N64 was less powerful than anything in its generation, and so on. Adam Koralik has a great series discussing this fact.
I don't disagree, I think the quality control on these things is terrible. Having used the one that I did several years ago, I was expecting a hot mess, this wasn't that, as you can see from the results
@RoXolid Productions the fact the wii2hdmi is 50 times less expensive as the other one you were comparing , with a similar result is mindblowing to me . I bought a wii2hdmi and I'm getting it in the mail . I didn't wanna blow a bunch of money if a cheap one does the trick.

You can use the Hyperkin Wii HDMi cable together with the Mclassic. That's how I run my setup.
the amazon link design not be available the article do you have any other link, great video and the quality of that hdmi adapter is very good
That's the link to what I demonstrated here. One not tested any others so i can't recommend anything else, sorry
Kind of sad you didn't look at the GameCube side of the Wii. I wanted to see how that would look
The 2x Pro is an amazing device, especially for the money!
for less than 300 you could just buy another TV or nice used projector that component in and some component cables for thewii
I have one of those for my son’s wii, and the image quality is good for the most part. But on a black screen, there is faint visible diagonal lines going across the screen. Idk if that’s from interference or something else.
Probably either a bad ground or poor insulation
@@RoXolid thanks for the reply! I have already tired a couple of things, such as trying different hdmi cables and a second power supply for the Wii. But it still has that same issue. I may just order another one and see if the one I have is defective.
Nice review. I think you found the best travel device to take with your Wii.
I don't travel with it like I used to, but yes, very true!
Great review! Would you say this option is superior to the Hyperkin and Mayflash?
I have reviews of both of those on the channel, but for the money this was really better than I expected
Man, what is going on with your audio.
No need to use a splitter
@@RoXolid I know, but I use a multi input one output splitter since I also like to use my M-Classic for my Xbox 360 and Wii U. That way I only need one M-Classic for multiple consoles.
I got this adapter a few years ago and the Wii stopped working. I was able to figure out it was the adapter. Would not recommend taking a chance on this adapter.
Interesting
mine too, power supply works fine but as soon as I plug in the hdmi adapter and turned it on the power cuts instantly.
That's really bizarre
I already have one of these and I agree...for the price it's amazing.
For $6 I can't complain
Do you need to plug it into the cables red white and yellow.....havent used Wii for such a long time
No, this completely replaces that cable
I know I sound really thick do I not need a lead to connect it to the TV either.....went to a shop and ermmmm they told me a load of rubbish
@@SonyaHorsburgh-k5x - A HDMI cable goes into this adapter that's plugged into the back of the Wii, and the other end of that HDMI cable goes into the TV. Just like any DVD player, PlayStation.. etc
It works....thank you
I experience input lag on the motion controls, specially in Wii sports resort. I don't know if it's the fault of this adapter or a somewhat modern tv, but kinda disappointed
The Wario games are awesome! I love them even though Mario is the traditional adventure but I feel Wario deserves more love. He really has a unique story and great gameplay.
I've liked the few I've played thus far
All those Wii2HDMI adapters caused vertical lines in 480p on my wio. I got myself a OEM component cable and a normal component to hdmi converter and never looked back. If someone else have the same problems with the cheap adapters this is my recommendation.
They CAUSE these lines?
I thought they were an inherent flaw of the Wii's output, which the lower quality cables just hid better and the higher quality cables just exposed it more clearly.
@ag2023en No, not inherently to the Wii, these adapters cause that
Hi there in was just curious now I bought the wii2hdmi for some reason I have the black borders round the wii screen is that how its sopose to appear or do I have to change some setting let me know ty
Not sure, sorry. Make sure you have the screen settings at 16:9 in the Wii menu
I owned one my sister has one I've also modded both to rip games. Each one of my WIi2HDMI adaptors have worked great with low lag.
I also have the homebrew channel on my Wii as well, it is a great tool especially with kids.
@@RoXolid It's nice my sister and have each others games and don't have bring over the whole stack of games, plus adding the systems like GBA/GBC/TurboG/N64/SNES/NES plus the games that weren't released officially or rom hacks get pretty fun too.
Got one, 1 problem, the screen is way to bright, No its not the monitor settings, have been trouble shooting for a while cant find a fix
That it is, but on some the screen is too dark. They are not calibrated well, i at all
@@RoXolid Kinda sucks, seems like the hyperkin HDMI Wii cable is alot better
@@powersky1678 For consistency? Perhaps
@@RoXolid what would you use to get the Wii to HDMI if you dont mind me asking?
@@powersky1678 I don't understand the question. This gets you to an HDMI, and there are cables that will get you to HDMI as well
I love it will get that for my wii
i suggest you get the mayflash wii2hdmi adapter is the best one out there
Nice! Glad it worked out. I wonder if the stock of the bad ones is exhausted. I vaguely remember the issue with these being you didn't know which one you'd get.
I wonder if we will ever get a a new WiiDual.
The WiiDual had parts go EOL, so I'm not sure
How does it look when you play a gamecube game
Ok enough, but there are cheap component video cables for the Wii that will look better
@@RoXolid yeah I have componant cable but my tv doesn’t allow me to use them sadly.
I have the same adapter but my sound I really really low. Anyone else have this issue with this adapter? I have to have my TV on 90
I did not have that issue myself.
I have the same issue. I can't seem to get a proper quality no matter how i adjust settings. So I am curious if it's a faulty product and if there are better alternatives :(
Ive tried 2 of these… All I get is a black screen.. anyone know how to fix it?
Make sure it's inserted all the way. Beyond that no idea, sorry
Maybe your TV/monitor does not support 480i, these things are only transcoders, you will have to change the Wii settings on some other TV from 480i to 480p to test.
Works perfectly for me
3.50 on ebay now
There are many different vendors with these sorts of things. Since this was unbranded it's tough to see whether it was this exact one or not.
All Nintendo consoles up until the Wii were all powerhouses of their respective generations.
But they really weren't. The NES was less powerful than the Master System, the SNES was less powerful than the Genesis, the N64 was less powerful than anything in its generation, and so on. Adam Koralik has a great series discussing this fact.
I use the Hyperkins WII to HDMI cable
I'll have to look into it
I want one soooooo bad! they are legit sold out everywhere!
Have you heard about Nintendo Switch Sports? You have to use Joy Cons for that.
Yes, I discussed it in here, the demo was awesome
It look the same to me lmao
I get that, between capturing, editing, rendering, and UA-cam compression what you see me upload isn't as good as what I see in-person.
The sound of this video from the microphone isn’t too good.
I know, I've replaced it and will have a shots video tomorrow showing it
Same on my TV. 🙉
For most I say good enough in 480p
Totally Agree
I've tried about 8 of these and all have been poor, with plenty of interference. Others swear by them...luck of the draw i guess.
I don't disagree, I think the quality control on these things is terrible. Having used the one that I did several years ago, I was expecting a hot mess, this wasn't that, as you can see from the results
WANNAKA WIILINTION
What does that mean?
Wii = Junk
Not so much, I loved my Wii
this guy liked his own comment lmao
@@RoXolid the wii is great 👍
That's a possibility
I liked mine a lot
But 5000% less cost? Or 50x less?
That's pretty amazing. Can't wait to get mine from Amazon tomorrow
I don't understand
@RoXolid Productions the fact the wii2hdmi is 50 times less expensive as the other one you were comparing , with a similar result is mindblowing to me . I bought a wii2hdmi and I'm getting it in the mail . I didn't wanna blow a bunch of money if a cheap one does the trick.
