    Hi:) I am a biochemistry major and I am really interested in this kind of science. When I first started bleaching my hair I did a ton of research on olaplex and other products like it. Your blog post on olaplex was really helpful and in general, I am very inspired by everything you've done on youtube and your blog. I have been watching youtube and reading beauty blogs since I was in middle school but as I began to receive formal science education, I became increasingly frustrated with all of the false, contradicting, and wish-washy information online. I would love to know more about your chemistry background and if you do any research!

      I came also to comment on that. I uses olaplex and it worked quite well but it was very irritating for my skin. Now somebody recommended K18 but it's ridiculously expensive so I would like an honest opinion before I buy it..

      @@latro1989 honestly I really love k18 so far. I’ve been using it on almost all of my highlight clients and almost every client who has taken it home has actually seen really good results. I used it regularly but now I use it here and there, and use their detox shampoo once a week and haven’t had any irritation from it so far.
      I still have my olaplex shampoo and will use it every once in a blue moon(I mostly use it to wash my makeup brushes now 😂😂😂) and it doesn’t irritate my skin nearly as much but I still can’t use it regularly.

      @NaomiWilliams Your hair is beautiful. I have true ash blonde hair, and mine lifts in what seems like moments! hahaha I'm middle age now and have begun to get silver stripes. • @naomilovenpeace
      @naomilovenpeace 6 років тому +5

      @@therealJamieJoy I would only get more highlights if you feel like the grays don't blend in well but it's definitely not required or anything. One thing to be aware of is that gray hair can get a yellow or brassy tint to it. This can happen because of using too high of heat on it, hard water, or product buildup. Using a purple toning shampoo about once a week will prevent this and keep your grays looking bright!

    I don’t bleach, colour, blow dry, straighten etc. And I still use olaplex twice a month bc shampooing, natural drying, the sun etc all damage the hair. All I use are #0 and #3. Any of there other products have silicone in them so they aren’t as suitable for curly hair. My hair is down to my waistline with minimal split ends that I can cut myself so I haven’t gotten a cut in two years!
    I had no idea that adding #3 to bleach did so much! I wish more hairdressers/stylists did their research and do diligence.

    • @pvanpelt1
      @pvanpelt1 2 роки тому

      I’ll have to look at #0 and #3. I avoid silicones because my hair has low porosity and they doesn’t absorb. I stopped coloring my hair a few years ago, but I still heat style it (with a protectant). It’s healthy, but I like trying new things. And I report back to my stylist how they worked for me

    I have read somewhere, I think it was a chemistry paper, that the Olaplex bonds do wash out over a few weeks and that that is part of their great business model. After all, if all the disulfur bonds where saved and permanently re-bonded in the original procedure, why would you need the after care? You hair would be in the exact same perfectly healthy condition as before.
    Which also leads to the question: Do you know what percentage of disulfur bonds are saved by Olaplex in the original bleaching process? Or how many are able to be re-built in comparison to not using Olaplex?
    Also, chemically and physically there should be a difference between the original disulfur bonds and the Olablex bonds, because Olaplex is a much larger molecule, right?

    • @doejohn6197
      @doejohn6197 3 роки тому +6

      What do you mean it washes out? That sounds like a waste of money? Aren’t those bonds supposed to be permanent? Since that bottle is so small? Sheesh why don’t these companies want really help out people than milking them dry!? Like damn they caused my damage so fix it too! Sorry I just had to rant out a little bit.

    • @NativeNYerChicHK
      @NativeNYerChicHK 3 роки тому +10

      Well, that theory begs the question: is the bulk of the reparative properties in their patented technology truly “washing” out after a few weeks or is it actually being re-damaged by harsh shampoos, damaging heat styling and/or dye products? The company does indeed say to continue use on a regular weekly basis, so even if they’re saying that their reparative properties are permanent, I believe that recommendation is because they realize we’re going to continue causing more damage with what we do to it at home as far as crappy drugstore hair products and heat styling. So I’m thinking that further deterioration isn’t so much their patented technology washing out per say, but more so due to a combination of things like environmental pollutants, as well as damaging at home routine maintenance and styling.
      Anecdotally, my hair hasn’t been this long and healthy in at least 25 years. I’m almost 50 and very peri-menopausal, started early in my early 40’s and we all know what a hormone rollercoaster/storm will do to a woman’s hair as far as listlessness, dullness, brittleness and thinning. But in Nov. 2019 I did a big chop, because it’d been looking just so dead, lifeless and scraggly. So my hair was cut to about 2 inches past shoulder length. HOWEVER, today it’s about 4 inches way from hitting my tailbone!! NOT EVEN KIDDING!!! I’ve not been able to grow out length like this in MANY YEARS!!! And I honestly believe it’s directly because I’ve pretty regularly used Olaplex products!! Although, no where near how often the brand recommends, due to the high cost. But I’m using their 6&7 to style after every wash day, which is now once a week, and I do a full 0,3,4,5,6,7 once a month, consistently. If my hair is feeling extra brittle I’ll do it once a week for a couple of weeks. But I just added 8 to my collection and OMG at the results!!!!! I did a complete 0,3,4,5,8,6,7 yesterday and let me tell you, you would have thought I went to a salon and got a full professional treatment, cut and blow dry!!! My hair needs a trim but after I did this, you’d have thought I got one!!! This whole Olaplex only at home spa day I gave to myself has my hair fuller, thicker, stronger, smoother, shinier, the body and movement is out of this world fabulous! And it has these dead ends looking healthy, new and gorgeous! I’m simply amazed at what this stuff has done for my hair!! For real. There truly isn’t anything like it on the market.

I have a question regarding Olaplex, I used the number 3 on slightly bleached hair, at the beginning, it worked like magic on my ultra tangled hair but then I started experiencing important breakage. I didn't think it was Olaplex so I used it a second time months later and got breakage again. I read a lot of people experienced this issue and I wondered if there is a scientific explanation. I believe my hair is quite sensitive to protein overload, could it be linked ?

      There's been studies by the manufacturer and some by various hair associations, but nothing peer-reviewed.

    I have black Asian hair but have been bleaching it for years to blonde and without Olaplex and wellaplex, I would probably be bald right now lol

    Thank you for sharing! Love your videos. Could you share about the science behind eye creams? I've seen so many products in the market but I'm at a loss of which to choose from, and what really works.

    Hi! Thank you for this info! Is there any dupe for Olaplex? I live in Argentina and here the customs fees are crazy high 🙄

      Olaplex tiene su fórmula patentada. Así que no creo que encuentres alguna alternativa que contenga los mismos ingredientes 😔

    Hey! I found this video from your blog! Can you speak about Olaplex 2? For example, if it’s just 1 but less concentrated, do you think it’s actually a necessary step after using 1? Thank you!

    I left with my hair 50 shades of blonde that a lady tried to give my sliver hair from black. Long story...a crap ton of my thick hair was damaged or fell out. My hair stylist used olaplex and fixed my hair. Now I have royal purple hair and I had no hair loss and it appeared less damaged. I freaking love olaplex ♡ keeps my hair pretty!

    What is the difference between Olaplex 2 and 3? Can the 2 be used the same as the 3 by a regular consumer? Is there any potential harm to the hair if either 2 or 3 are left on without rinsing for a few days until the next washing? I would greatly appreciate your input. I have scoured the internet for the answers these questions and cannot locate the answers anywhere: You have, by far, posted the most detailed information I have ever found regarding Olaplex. You have an excellent channel and website.

      2 is thinner and contains more of the active ingredient. It's also salon-only. Olaplex #3 feels more like a conditioner and has a lower level of the active ingredient for clients to use at home.

    So is olaplex a protein treatment? And if so, do we have to balance it with a moisturizing treatment?
    I'm asking because after 2 uses of olaplex within 2 weeks i didn't see any difference on my hair.Allthow my hair is bleached, it isn't visibly damaged and without any split ends and contains a normal amount of moisture (It feels only a little dry sometimes).Instead, after the olaplex treatment it felt kinda weird, shiny but dry (?!)
    i just couldn't explain it...
    Thank youuu

      Apparently you have to use a deep conditioner after using olaplex number 2

      Not a protein treatment, the bonds it fixes are more internal.

    I know this is an older video, but I need to know if this undoes a permanent wave? I want to perm my hair, but I would like to condition it without losing the curl. I'm a new subscriber so I'm sorry I'm commenting so late.
