He is hesitant in new situations and is a loner.
His father died before he was born, and he had never spent time with a silverback.
He had already turned into a silverback by the time he was 10 years old.

MOMOTARO's father is BIJU.
MOMOTARO's mother is MOMOKO.
Mother GENKI ♀ (1986/6/24)
She is 14 years older than Momotaro and has a role to support the whole family mentally.
She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,
she had two sons.
She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAC.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.
First son GENTARO, male (2011/12/21)
He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.
Second son KINTARO ♂ (2018/12/19)
He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.
The way he plays a lot with his brother Gentaro is
makes everyone smile.

It's a silverback's job to protect his troop. So, it's understandable that Momotaro was agitated being apart from his family. I could feel his unease the way he was listening at the door, and climbing up to the ledge to look in the window. You can tell Momotaro finds peace in his daily routine, and that was different today.
The shape of Gentaro's face and head is definitely changing. Hard to believe the tiny baby in diapers is the handsome gorilla we see today.
Genki and Kintaro had me a little nervous the way they quickly snuck in as the door was closing.

I can see Genki verbally stressing to staff & Momotaro after noticing him in the other room. So sweet how she peeks into the window to see Momotaro, she misses him too!

After watching Momo for a couple of years now , I’ve noticed he demonstrates the most agitated behaviours around food, when the white hard hats come around and when he’s separated from his family. I think it gets under his skin when his family are away from him because he can’t watch over them as the great protector of them he usually is! 🦍♥️
I get anxious for him when the white hats are around. The family knows also that dad is going to get mad!

Momo is no different from any other silverback. Watching other gorilla families and wild gorillas, the alpha silverback eats first and gets the choicest bits, he's not above taking good bits from others even toddlers. Rule #1 take care of the silverback, he is the leader and protector. That's why the 1st thing learned by the babies is grab your food/treat then hide to enjoy. The gorilla way.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

I hope Gentaro will be able to start his own family one day in the near future. I'm sure the separation will be difficult for everyone but I think him leaving and moving on would be the only way. Under Momotaro's reign Gentaro's growth is definitely stunted.

That's right, Gentaro's growth has slowed down. At his age, Momotaro was already silver and had long fangs. Probably Gentaro is being suppressed.

I’ve seen Gentaro looking through this window many times especially when Momotaro was ill and they kept him indoors away from the rest of the family. Gentaro was at the window looking in at Momotaro all the time.

@@devonporter7278 I have no reference as to how Momo was with Gentaro at the same age. Kinny is like his mother, they are excellent communicators. Momo not so much. If only we had the funds to have someone work with the family on word buttons so we could get to know what is on the gorillas minds. Remember Koko the sign language gorilla? And now people are using word buttons on dogs and birds. Can you just image what these animals could say?

I said this earlier when Kintaro and MoMo started playing but it only lasted for seconds ,Kintaro and MoMo stopped and just looked at each other, It lasted for a little bit , I believe that Kintaro is asking his dad to be easier on Gentaro ,really it looked like they were in a conversation ❤️

I'm amazed every time I see one of them climb up into that sill. Don't know how they do it -- there's nothing to grab onto and the sill is sloped, making it even harder.

Great video. Not sure if the cold weather explains why they are indoors separated. With so many videos and channels covering the Japanese zoos, I feel like I missed something important. I watched “the family in the snow” videos, but nothing unusual happened in those. Maybe something happened after hours, off camera that justified a “time out.”

I've watched with Interest over the years but still feel a natural environment is best. A forest with green grass. Not a concrete jungle. Even though they are well fed.😩😩😩

They are fine. He’s playing with Kintaro. They are usually locked up together when the keepers are laying down the outside treats and grass. The only difference is Momo was separated😊

They were separeted temporarily becuase of the severe weather on that day. Not wrong at all. Otherwise, they had to stay outside which was snowing much. On the other hand, Momotaro had no choice but to understand it. That's the story.

Was Gentaro left outside for a long time. He looked like he was getting too cold and wanted to be let in. Momo seemed more concerned for his family that was inside.
Personally I think ALL Momo is worried about is if they are eating food that he wants and feel entitled to.
I love this family, and have watched and followed since Kintaro was born. What I don't like is that Momo is food aggressive. I don't see shabani acting like that or the other silverbacks. That's the only thing that bothers me with Momo. He's a good dad.
Hi, am so glad that Momotaro is separated from them. He is to mean and he needs to be trained, and I am tired of him biting Genki you can tell she has PTSD from all the trauma. He’s caused and her past drama she is like a wonderful silverback mama.
Why would you be glad? He has his own ways and how would you suggest he be trained? He’s food aggressive and Genki knows this. You act like he’s biting her every hour,everyday.
Haoko bites his females a lot. Momotaro doesn’t. Oumbi has scared me several times that he was going to severely hurt one of his family members. Momotaro hasn’t. All 3 of these silverbacks are wonderful and take care of their families in their own way. Momotaro needs no training. He protects his family, keeps order, and teaches the boys about the social hierarchy so they will know when they have families
Oh and another silverback would have probably killed Genki or caused serious damage by now. She throws water and poop at him when he’s sleeping or just sitting there. Regularly. I’m happy that he hasn’t hurt her because another silverback would have by now
