Developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive, Hitman: Contracts was released for PC in April, 2004. A high definition port along with Silent Assassin and Blood Money was released in 2013 as part of the Hitman HD Trilogy for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Hitman: Contracts may not break new ground but the formula has been tweaked and refined to a point that makes it more accessible and fun.

When 47 is wounded at the beginning of the game, it's raining and because all the missions are technically flashbacks, it's also raining in all missions except the last one.

Fun fact: This game takes place after the Curtains Down Mission in Blood Money
Funner fact: Agent 47 is based on Johnny Sins. The guy has literally done everything.
Contracts is set after the opera house mission in blood money. In the final mission of Contracts, if you check your objectives they’re the targets from that mission in contracts. The cutscene after that mission in blood money shows what happens right before 47 gets shot.
This was my first Hitman game when I was a kid, and yes I couldn’t progress through the Meat King party mission without half my eyes closed 😅. Played it recently back again in 2022, and SAed through every mission. Such a great game that never bores me, except the Triad missions.
this is where they figured out the perfect Hitman formula; each mission has a target and multiple ways to take them out.
the first two entries are great but more on the experimental side with too many filler missions of navigating forests, jungles etc.
the only weak mission in Contracts is The Bjarkhov Bom
Still somewhat better than traditions of the trade still.
I really wish this game was brought over with the hd collection. I absolutely love the dark atmosphere of this game compared to the others.

Contracts is one of my favorite games in the series, along with Blood Money.
I like how it finds a balance of challenge and open-ended gameplay, but more importantly than that, the atmosphere is easily the strongest. Also the best soundtrack in the series. I feel as though the ultimate example in the series would be to combine true immersive sim sandbox gameplay with a strong atmosphere and genuine challenge, which I believe Hitman Contracts came the closest to achieving; However, Blood Money and WOA's freedom was great too, so I can't ignore those.
Out of the first few entries this is my favorite, but I can't help but enjoy the level design and variety in Hitman 2 SA and its orchestral majestic soundtrack.
The 360/PS3 port is great, retains most of the effects of the OG.

This is the best Hitman IMO.
Blood Money went a bit more sandbox and lacks some elements I would have liked. (No enemies with Assault Rifles, any weapon that isn't a custom weapon got nerfed hard, no SWAT and the sandbox-y nature of it and WOA makes things a bit unbalanced.)
It strikes the best balance of giving the player multiple routes to complete hits while also still limiting the player enough for a challenge, and it still has decent combat for if you're willing to roll with alerts with SWAT to make things more difficult.
If you had Contracts levels/suspicion with Absolution combat, you'd close to perfect imo. (I like how in Absolution you can just a grab a second pistol/one-handed SMG and start dual-wielding that way and the human shield.)
One of the things I love about Contracts is the suspicious system; you never feel completely safe during close brushes with guards.
While in Blood Money disguises feel OP and immersion breaking.
Contracts gets boring to replay when you have done all the methods. In blood money, you can create a method. Oh and the weapon selection menu is available only after completing the game which wasn’t the case in previous two games either.

I always had a soft spot for this one. It's a more refined version of SA.
I've always loved the intro for Contracts. The first game I had and played was Blood Money so I was always confused by the ending cutscene fro the Opera House mission. Think it's interesting how the game is basically a fever dream of reliving past missions.
I do not say this often enough, but your channel is amazing
i kinda consider SA and Contracts as almost one game - in the end i slightly prefer SA but overall i love them both. Great stealth game and even better sandbox shooters.
@@Elatenl i agree, i especialy liked slightly better overall animation (and kind of "body awarness"), and the recoil on some weapons like twin uzi was amazing.

I was pretty shocked when the NPC actually spoke Romanian in the first mission; like it was a weird dream and they threatened me directly.
The mission in England was my favorite, with the spooky mansion.

I loved this game's atmosphere, music, ambient...
Has my fave soundtrack and also the bridge of balance between SA and BM for me. The training room is cool but I wish we had some stuff carried from H2:SA, like collecting melee weapons and 47 wearing outfits like the winter camouflage in Japan's valley according to his enviroment.

Blood Money is the best gameplay wise, but Contracts has the best atmosphere.
I would have liked to play the Colombia missions at night and in the rain.. Sometimes I think that it would have been very demanding for the time of year to implement excessive vegetation and trees and with a lot of rain. I think that's because maybe they didn't implement it in the game, plus they would have made the hardware of that time sweat a lot...
Contracts, Blood Money, and Absolution are my favorite HITMAN games in terms of tone. The later, newer entries with the more James Bond aesthetic and appeal are mechanically superior in most aspects... but I never quite liked how the tone became much, much lighter in those... even in the darkest entry of that trilogy, which is Hitman 3.
Contracts+blood money are the goat
When the resolution is highest (1980x1080), the game slows down a lot (I mean 20-10 fps). This is not because of the computer. Another game, "Hitman blood money", is very smooth when I play it at the best graphics and resolution (always 60 fps). Do you have information about this subject?

A dark entry
I remember playing this game, and Hitman 2. I had difficulty completing the mansion in England, it took me several attempts. Before I became fed up, and just started blasting everyone. 😂
One attempt, I walked into the dining room with all the British guards. Only after I killed one guard, and stole his clothes. They all turned towards me and said "Who might you be?!"
My reaction was "Aw fuck! I've been made." I immediately turned around, and walked out of the room. The guards then said "well whadya know? We got company!"
That was when I began blasting everyone, before hiding under the bed with the target. Once it was clear, I killed the target and escaped. My friend, who was watching laughed the whole time.
Yeah that level is pretty tough. Also I think the outdoor guard disguise raises more suspicion when you wear it inside the house, and vice versa, so ideally you wanna grab the indoor version. Wearing the indoor disguise outside is less of a problem because you've got lots of wide open space to avoid those guards.

It's set during BM; after the Opera mission.
It's set between the missions Curtains Down and Flatline from Blood Money.
One of the best games ever
Picked up this a few months back and this was my first Hitman game on PS2 which is actually harder then all other versions so playing it on PS3 it felt way too easy even on professional in most missions
How on earth do you take disguises off of bodies in this game?
There's nothing that pops up on the HUD like in bloodmoney, and there's nothing in the controls menu that tells you(as far as I can tell)
There must be something wrong with your game, this game is just like the others with disguises
You hold the interact button and then scroll to the "Take Clothes" option in the little menu either using the W and S keys (up and down on dpad with a controller) or the mouse wheel.
Hitman Contracts is also my favorite of the series. X ray vision ruined the new trilogy for me.
Yeah. X-ray vision sucks in every stealth game imo. The only one I kinda give it a pass in is Deus Ex, since in those games it's diegetic and the character literally has cybernetic eyes that can see through walls. Although typically even in those games I don't use it, because it's just too OP.
