As Super said, it only got mould because the fungi could form on the first burger and then spread. When by itself, the preservatives (salt etc.) keeps the mould at bay untill it's too dry to be good fungus food.

I think it's simply the jar that made it so the fast food one rotted. In such a closed environment, things like can't dehydrate so it creates the perfect environment for... An ecosystem like that.
The organic one was organic so it broke down no matter what. Only, notice how both buns only rotted in the jar? Even when the organic burger rotted on the first attempt, the buns didn't because they were dry and weren't a good home for mould. However, it was when it was in a moist jar, the bun then couldn't dry up

The difference on a stand-alone basis is due to the relative moisture content of the burgers. You can see a lot more high moisture toppings with the burger on the left. The burger on the right is quite thin and the toppings themselves are thin (shredded lettuce, paper thin tomato). The burger on the right will dry out much faster (in fact, is probably drier from the start as it's usually prepared in advance and sitting in a warming tray) than the left. The placing both burgers in the same case results in both molding/rotting at the same rate (it seems the burger on the right actually grew mold faster). Does this sort of test turn me away from fast-food chain burgers on the right? Well, yes - mainly because those aren't the most appetizing of burgers in the first place!
