They have pretty much given the industry a pass to do this. It could be intentional knowing they can fall back on, sorry it's a bug. (Judicial ignorance of the inner workings of software is largely why the laws have been allowed to become so backwards.)
It's kind of how every game with a subfee works. If you go and buy World of Warcraft, you aren't playing it unless you pay $10 a month. I'm not a lawyer, just saying that this has actually been done for decades. Could be illegal if somebody decided to actually try it in court, who knows?
@@JNJNRobin1337 very true. I'm not trying to justify it, just not certain on the legality. The EULA does contain all of that junk about the game only being a licence and not ownership of a product, which is how they get away with turning off online only games. So really, who knows.
@@cfehunterEULA isn't above the law. If something there is unlawful, its against the law and i doubt that if Ubisoft was sued, they could defend this awful move of theirs.
"at this point"? Mate, we've seen that shit written on the wall back in 2014-2016, but everyone went "It's part of UBISOFT/BETHESDA charm. At least they're not EA."
ubisoft said 'players have to get comfortable not owning their games'. this is what they meant. you 'buy' it, but they own it. and you will pay them whatever they decide if you want to play it. welp, personally, i hae become quite comfortable with the idea of never buying a ubisoft product again.
As this 'bug' has been ongoing, it should have been hotfixed in the first week tops. I remember another game I played that had a game breaking bug like this, what they did, and Ubisoft should have done, is reverted the game to the previous version while they fix the bug. The fact they did not shows it was intentional. At this poiont, I will say the same as I have always, as this has been so long ongoing, it is time to report this to the FTC.
We don't need legal action. Ubisoft has officially burned any shred of credibility they had left. No one is going to buy a full price game from ubi ever again with the knowledge that this is on the table
I completely forgot an Avatar game existed. I heard it was mediocre Farcry clone with another IP splashed on it. But I suppose _this_ what you get with Ubisoft.
If those people actually still got locked out after buying the dlc..... I'm willing to believe it was a bug... Still, 4 months is an unreasonable timeframe for such a gamebreaking bug as this.
This is a more blatant case, but even with outlaws they put in a patch changing and removing core gameplay. Say no one liked it, they may give them a pass. But to force changes to a game you bought after you bought it? Who is to say some didn't buy it just for that, or who would not have bought the game had they known it would change. 1. Don't force updates, 2.make the different versions available to choose from like minecraft. 3. don't be predatory and just generally anti-consumer like Ubisoft.
Sounds like it is time to take incompetence and " i didnt know..." off the table forever because the liars and the corrupt are what this world doesnt need

am I showing my age by mentioning the gold disk ? or games going gold.? meaning that was the game that was being put on the disk and sold and companies like nintendo and sony took the products very seriously. Now your first day release is little more than a beta test. I get that they need to get something out to recoup sales but honestly this stuff is bad business. I dont buy games that are less than 6 months old now and I knwo they are playable.
I read the source. Hanlon's razor. I absolutely believe this was a bug and they just didn't catch it. They apologised once it was raised and fixed it. Obviously this isn't good, but it's not them intentionally trying to paywall something you already own behind additional DLC.
What version is your game on? This isn't something people would lie about. For all we know you could be lying as well. Why not upload a video of your game and its game version and play it to prove that you aren't lying. You can't have it offline either and if it needs an update you have to update it in your video
"Should we give Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt?"
NO.

This should be illegal
pretty sure it is honestly

@cfehunter this game was not advertised as being a subscription is the thing though

Skyrim's mod community was the only reason to buy something newer than Oblivion from Ubislop.
@@nullpoint3346 that'd be Bethesda.
this is actually illegal as (at least on playstation ) it says in the store description that "in game purchases are not required"

Honestly it's only half Ubisoft's fault, the other half is on the people for still buying freaking Ubisoft games in the first place.
This x 1000
The sad thing is, this is +-4 months old "news" and nobody cared until now.well better then never,Ubisoft still not give a F.
Nobody cared till now because nobody plays avatar
Or nobody knew? I've never heard of this nonsense until now, and I'm certainly not alone.
Is there a human victory mode in the game?
@@corvus_armatura7595 Yes, you can side with the RDA to cause the "evil" ending where the Na'vi lose access to Eywa. 😊
I see they've adopted Microsoft's ideology where Quality Control is more of a concept than a reality, and the customers are something to be scorned.
Can't play base game if I don't buy anything.
I have never been more pleased to have passed on a bundled game on a GPU purchase.🤣🤣🤣
OK butt, WHO THE F wants to play that game AT ALL?!

We should be thanking Ubisoft: they're leading by example and giving us plenty of evidence for digital ownership for legislation.
I completely forgot an Avatar game existed. I heard it was mediocre Farcry clone with another IP splashed on it. But I suppose _this_ what you get with Ubisoft.
Base game BS aside anyone who bought the dlc could likely argue undue influence.

Five months is a long time to be extorting your players over a bug. They are pretty confident no one will sue or investigate this.

Call Ross Scott from Accursed Farms, we have another case for his "Stop Killing Games" crusade!
They 100% did this on purpose. Not a bug. This is why I only pirate new Ubisoft games or buy used discs at most. Other companies I still buy new.
Yet another reason to close your wallet to Ubisoft 😂
I hope Ubisoft's next owners aren't as scummy as the current ones.
Ubisoft is done
Wow Ubisoft is low class...
Loyalty is not bought. You earn it with blood

This is extortion!
This is why I stopped buying Ubisoft games years ago. They do not care about the quality of their games. They only care about taking your money.
You will own nothing, nd you better be happy or else...

The game was dog s*** anyway
Ubisoft and Adobe, both are very excellent, top tier, godlike🫰🫰🫰
